eljefe, I understand what you're saying. Now I am reminded of a fleeting possibility of attraction between Juno and Jason Bateman's character, especially when they were dancing. That one seemed more platonic, but I can't say it hasn't crossed my mind while they were dancing. In Beautiful Girls, your proposal could also be another way of looking at it. I guess I am a little too wary of this issue to just accept something between a grown man and a young girl as nothing other than pure love. Damn pedos ruining everything for all of us. For instance, I distinctly remember my breasts having gotten in the way between my relationship with my dad. It changes things. So much so that physical affection becomes almost taboo between father and adolescent daughter. The reason I used the word "excessive" when pertaining to Hutton's character in Beautiful Girls was that he clearly demonstrated a competitive tendency towards the boy in question. A nerdy 13-year old boy we don't actually see in the film and yet aro...

Well so much has been said that I'm not sure if I'm actually adding anything to this discussion, but I'm writing something anyway. You asked how many people that are Leon fans were fans because they were attracted to Natalie and in turn had pedophile tendencies. Well, that question has no answer. How could you possibly know that? And even if you did an anonymous poll, you wouldn't get a good result because that sort of thing is such an abohrration to the majority of people that even if it was true for them, it would be difficult to be truthful to even themselves. I really liked that movie when I first saw it and I still do. I didn't see the relationship with Leon and Matilda as anything other that a traumatized girl having a crush on a father figure that saved her life. I mean, young people have crushes on older people to, it's not just the other way around. You see young people, boys and girls, have crushes on their teachers and such. Yes there might be some kind of sexual attraction, or at least a pre-teen...

I tend to think it's a little bit more than that. I would again go back to Nabokov's Lolita because it's familiar to many people and its central theme is still highly applicable to today's society. I read somewhere that adults are attracted to the young (not sexually) in order to nurture and care for them. This is why we are attracted to babies of other species . . . we think kittens, puppies and other babies are cute with there tiny hands and big eyes, and other traits that most young mammals share. But for some the wiring gets mixed up and those attractions are turned sexual. Especially when the young person is maturing and starts showing a mixture of baby and adult traits. This attraction confuses some folks and if they do not get a handle on it they make inappropriate decisions.

I think you want to talk about: - The men that got turned on by a twelve-year-old girl and feel justified because she showed an inappropriate sexual awareness. - The fact that Mathilda probably shares this trait with thousands of abused little girls . . . and just because a little girl has interest in sex or adult relationships does not give license to anybody to be lecherous. - How about all those "countdown" clocks for Natalie Portman, Emma Watson, the Olsen twins, Hayden Panettiere and so on. The countdown clocks and being turned on by these kids are morally reprehensible . . . but not illegal.

Its themes revolve around a group of friends and how they behave "stupidly" when a drop-dead gorgeous woman walks in the room. Like they forget everything else. Most of the characters also have some unresolved issues dating as far back as high school. Other themes include infidelity,...

I do not think that lumping everybody that enjoyed her performance into that category is appropriate. She did a great job in the film . . . The best of all her films. But if you label her fans of that movie as pedophiles than you must do the same for fans of Taxi Driver, Lolita, American Beauty and a whole list of other great films. Just because a film explores a subject and fans like a performance does not mean that they are lecherous. Juno had two kids having sex and an adult that wanted to "get" with a 16 year old kid . . . why aren't folks asking the same question about this film? At least in Leon, Leon did nothing inappropriate sexually . . . unlike the guy in Juno. We could probably make a list of 100 films that fit the same category. I would be terribly offended, if somebody said this about me.

I just thought it was an outstanding movie with an outstanding cast. Gary Oldman rocked that movie. LEON is still my favorite film of hers(the ending still kinda gets me..), but GARDEN STATE and V for VENDETTA both kicked ass as well, and had brilliant performances. Shes turned into a very attractive person with alot of talent. I heard she was stopping making movies after the STAR WARS prequels were over. Im glad she decided to keep on going.
