i just finished watching avp2 and i must say it was a great flick. i didnt like the 1st one at all, but this definitely exceeded my expectations. i dont care that they took scenes from other films, and i did pickup up on the obvious ones. that movie had a big body count! only fault i could see was that in some of the alien vs predator fight scenes it was hard to tell who was who

Wow. This thread is ginormous! At least in AVP you could see what was going on.

Yeah an AvP:R movie made by a couple of hacks is way more important then a Ridley Scott and James Cameron collaboration on a fifth alien movie...yeah right. That deceased Alien five would have made four times more money then the two AvP movies combined. Ridley and Cameron! Come on...it doesnt take a genius to figure that one out. How is it even possible to miss that connection? Anyway, I didn't say the gore was CRYSTAL clear all the time, but it didn't need to be drenching every frame. Even the original movies didn't show you every little detail in vivid definition for five second spells (excluding the chestbursters). There was enough gore in AVP:R to make AVP look like a petting zoo, but again, my resolution kicks ass, so I suppose it's not a fair comparison. I saw that part clearly as well. I don't now anyone could miss that connection, despite if they felt the movie was too dark or not. I wouldn't mind seeing the Strause Brothers tackle another AVP but considering how everyone and their neighbors hate the film I doubt they will be back.

I don't hate Anderson's AVP but I still think he screwed up with it. I had enough fun with it and some of the action was cool but the rating, the characters and the pace upset me. It was too watered down, the characters were annoying/ "Meh" and the film tried to be like Aliens with its pace. Anderson, your film was 100 minutes, not over 150 minutes like Aliens. Now the characters in AVP-R weren't any better but they didn't piss me off like the ones in AVP. But the rating and pace were much better and gave me more bang for my buck. I thought the Strause Brothers did a much better job at an AVP film than Anderson. They delivered a film that reminded me of a creature feature from the '50's. A film that entertained me much more than Anderson's attempt. I don't hate Anderson. I dig the Resident Evil films but he wasn't the right man to direct an Alien or Predator film. Oh well hated films have to get some love once and awhile. I enjoyed AVP-R, simple as that. But I don't get this AVP is better crap. Com...

It seems like you are an avid Resident Evil gamer, and that you probably hate the Resident Evil films with a passion because they are NOTHING like the games. Im with you there man, I wish that the films could have at least garnered a little bit of that horror and dread I felt while playing the first Resident Evil game all those ages ago...alas we got Andersons version of what a Resident Evil movie should be, not a very faithful adaptation, but a fun movie non the less, at least in my book. What Anderson has done with the Resident Evil flicks is completely deviate from the source material, making his own little zombie movies that practically have nothing to do with the games, save for a few names and the "umbrella corp." As far as video game movies go, for me anyways, Id say that Silent Hill was a good adaptation, it captured the feel and look of the game, even if it later went its own way with the story, it still captured the essence, the feel of that game. All thanx to Christophe Gans. A competent...

syxxpac makes a lot of good points and I agree with much of what he says. I don't believe that a PG-13 automatically makes a horror movie bad, just as R doesn't automatically make it good. There are good PG-13 horror and there's bad R horror. However, when it comes to the AVP series, the rating matters. Can you imagine an Alien or Predator film being PG-13? I sure as hell can't. It was incredibly stupid for AVP to be PG-13. What redeeming qualities does AVP have, in spite of the PG-13 rating? Not many, if any at all, and Anderson is not a good director, and his writing is even worse. If the rating of an AVP movie does not matter to you, I don't consider you much of a fan of the Alien or Predator movies. In this instance the rating should matter to you. That's why I made the younger viewer comment. If you'd grown up on the series and if they meant a lot to you, you'd feel differently.
