If it was that and the Saw series are the only two I've seen that I've liked. I'd like to say something complimentary about the genre but after shelling out $9 bucks for Wolf Creek it's damn hard. | | Static Link |

But I can't help but love the part where the wheel chair bound mutant with a brain so big it nearly reached the floor found himself being devoured by a hungry German Shepard. That is some tasteless tasteless filmmaking there. | | Static Link |

The violence towards the woman (rape scene). I was actually watching the movie with some friends, we payed $3.99 for it on PPV. We all just looked at each other and said, "What in the hell are we watching this for". | | Static Link |

At least the old movies now are too camp to be taken seriously. I also don't mind the occasionally one that is an original (Saw) or has something interesting to say/is interestingly done (Audition) but, when we're at the point that the torturers are the protagonists and increasingly the movies are just lazy, borderline xenophobic "foreigners are evil sadists who want to kill innocent americans who just want hookers and weed" treadthroughs. It gets tiresome. Instead of novelty value we now have a lame game of gore/gross-out one-upmanship. How long before we're on to cutting out foetuses from pregnant women and eating them like Anthoporphagus, only with new shiny uber-real effects. Oh wait they tried that with AVP2, I guess we're there. | | Static Link |

His movies never get past the level of a little kid asking if you like "See Food". Ironically the only movie of his that I really like is "Happiness Of The Katakuri's" which is the strangest damn musical you will ever see ever. Also on the subject I loved that in Takashi Miike's cameo in Hostel, he just played Takashi Miike. Like this what he does in his spare time. It was really pretty funny. I really don't give a shit, so I don't know why I'm defending them. But it feels like Roth would have made those movies without the torture porn boom. Hostel 2 actually does have some interesting stuff about how things that should be "priceless" are all too easily quantified in our world. But like I said I'm not what you would call passionate about Hostel, or Roth for that matter. Most of my affection for him comes from Thanksgiving (Oh wait the UK didn't get to see that did they Tay? ) and Cabin Fever which is still a fun flick. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: crappertay at June 11, 2008, 2:32 pm | | Topic: Bad Fandom - CB's fight back against annoying fanboys Forum: Film Hobbit | | Torture porn as it was, was an interesting oddity back in the 70s/80s exploitation period of horror where effects guys were testing their limitations etc and Italian directors were given a lot of free reign to experiment. Modern torture porn is just too self-aware and cynical. | | Static Link |

It is true, he does pretend to act. I guess we will just have to pretend he is not in the GI JOE movie. As for the Torture Porn article it is right on the money - I couldn't agree more. Eli Roth makes horrendous movies. | | Static Link |

I was too scared to read all of them. I'm not sure I ever will. The ones I did see were in good enough spirits, though, so maybe the Whedon kids and I can get along after all. | | Static Link |

Owning a Storm Trooper outfit would be pretty cool (wearing it more than, like, a hair above never would not be). Believing your a Jedi scares me. I grew up thinking I was the world's biggest Star Wars fan, once I was a senior in high school, I saw videos of fans dressing up and re-enacting movies while standing in line, and I realized I'm not the worlds' biggest Star Wars fan. And I'm okay with that. By the way, who is Channing Tatum? | | Static Link |
| Posted by: Witch King at April 24, 2008, 9:09 am | | Topic: Bad Fandom - CB's fight back against annoying fanboys Forum: Film Hobbit | | Anyone familiar with the term weaboo? I learned it a while ago while bashing people on GameFAQs. It's one of those times that made me go, "yes, yes, that's perfect." It's nice to have an actual term to apply to something that I somewhat have trouble explaining but I know it (and hate it) when I see it. Wapanese is similar and apparently more anime-related. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: brassguy at April 23, 2008, 8:42 pm | | Topic: Bad Fandom - CB's fight back against annoying fanboys Forum: Film Hobbit | | I don't think that this part is quite true: Quote: When a new Star Wars action figure is being released, it's not 12 year-old kids lining up, but 30 year-old losers obsessed with a slightly above-average film series. The fact is that today's youth doesn't give a shit about Star Wars, but the older generation trying to recapture the magic of their own youth does. Plenty of kids love Star Wars. I have a 10 year old cousin - she went through a big star wars thing. Her friends all loved Star Wars. We aren't talking about something that hasn't been in movie theaters since 1983 - all three movies were re-released in theaters in 1997 - then episode 1 1999, episode 2 2002 RoTS 2005. | | Static Link |
