I thought his films had some of the best soundtracks, although I havent seen Once Upon a Time in the West. The Good, The Bad & The Ugly remains around number 10 or 11 in my top 20 list. However Leone would be around 17/18 in my favorite directors list. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: Fl0ydend at April 8, 2008, 10:14 pm | | Topic: Sergio Leone - Best Director? Forum: JoBlo | | Yes, for sure he is up there. There are a slew of other directors as good as him too. Actually, I think Clint Eastwood as a director is just as good as him. I guess he learned from him | | Static Link |

His films are some of my favorites of all time. But to be honest, the top 10 of anything seems to change depending on my mood and the time of day. But he is definitely in the running for the best director in my opinion. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: Orson-Cockart at April 8, 2008, 4:14 pm | | Topic: Sergio Leone - Best Director? Forum: JoBlo | | One of my favourite directors, though not the best. I prefer Ford when it comes to the Western genre, with Stagecoach and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance being among my favourite films. | | Static Link |

Unlike La Motta, i think the music he used helpep hima great deal, i mean as soon as you hear the gb&u theme it's impossible not to think of him. Also, i think i'm the only person in the world that loves 'For a Few Dollars More' more than Fistfull and Good, Bad & the Ugly. Can't exactly put a spot on why (been a while since iv'e seen it), But i remember just enjoying it whole heartedly more. Maybe the story? Who cares... it's awesome!! | | Static Link |

| Posted by: Scarface98.9 at April 7, 2008, 5:02 pm | | Topic: Sergio Leone - Best Director? Forum: JoBlo | | He's an amazing director, probably one of the best. I just wouldn't put him in the complete upper echelon of directors because he wasn't prolific enough since he only made a few films in his 20 year career. If there was more to judge, I would easily put him in my top 5 | | Static Link |

For me, Kubrick is just okay. 2001, Spartacus and Paths of Glory were great, but none of those three do I like better than the Leone trilogy I named. Clockwork Orange was a brilliant idea, but too graphic for me to fully appreciate. | | Static Link |

| Posted by: Cronos at April 7, 2008, 3:14 pm | | Topic: Sergio Leone - Best Director? Forum: JoBlo | | He is definitely one of the best. In my top 10 favourite director's and Once Upon A Time In The West is among my all time favourite films. I just love how he uses camera angles and shots, especially in Once, it just looks absolutely fantastic. One of the only director's that has used close up shots of actors faces that actually looked good. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: the saw is family at April 7, 2008, 1:02 pm | | Topic: Sergio Leone - Best Director? Forum: JoBlo | | he is a great director, but unfortunately not the best of all time. he is borderline top ten, for sure top 15 for me. i own the dollars trilogy, once upon a time in the west and once upon a time in america, out of the ones i own ...... in america is probably my favorite. he was pretty much second to none when it came to directing epic films. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: spacemonkey at April 7, 2008, 12:50 pm | | Topic: Sergio Leone - Best Director? Forum: JoBlo | | Well, what I love about The Good the Bad and the Ugly is how epic it is. I often times refer to it as the Gone with the Wind of westerns. Some people might dismiss it as just another cowboy movie, but they would be wrong. This is the Grandaddy of all westerns, and should be seen by everyone who likes good films. Those wide angle shots of the desert, I love those close ups he does on the characters in the film. The ones where they are looking at each other and he focuses on the eyes and the little details. And I also love the fact that in the Good the Bad and the Ugly, there is not one good person in it. Everyone (including Blondi) is evil in one way or another. Not only that more often the not, people in his movies are ugly looking. Or have a very rough dirty looking aspect to them, love that about Leones wild west, nothing is perfect. Ive got to see more Sergio Leone films....last one I saw was Fist full of Dollars. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: DaMovieMan at April 7, 2008, 12:34 pm | | Topic: Sergio Leone - Best Director? Forum: JoBlo | He is in my top ten directors list of all time that's for sure, with those three that you listed being his best and my favorite. Once Upon A Time in The West and in America are two of my favorite films from him,
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is probably the best western ever made. His Dollars trilogy is also very entertaining, Fistfull of Dollars especially. With that said though, with greats such as Kubrick, Kurosawa, Bergman, Tarkovsky, Scorsese, Herzog et al. i'll never be able to say he is the best of all time. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: Spock at April 7, 2008, 12:27 pm | | Topic: Sergio Leone - Best Director? Forum: JoBlo | | Do you agree? He is to me. Three of his movies are in my top 20 of all time. Once Upon a Time in America Once Upon a Time in the West The Good, Bad, and Ugly I love this guy. How about you? Tell me what you think of his movies, either those mentioned or not mentioned. Thanks. | | Static Link |
