The reason was Hollywood *is* afraid of the "Mafia". It is a policy, in the screnwriters world that the word "Mafia" is not to be incuded in a script. So William, don't come here with your garbage. Walter Traprock presented the following explanation : Quote:Baldoni wrote: Opry phantom explained : On Mar 25, 10:39 am, stonej wrote: Looks to have some Godfather elements in it.   What do you think of the movie overall? Mostly shlock; you can see cars in the background that are obviously 30+ years in the future. Valachi's world was essentially Manhattan and da Bronx. Genovese may be a common enough name that the Genovese Family is not related to the Kitty Genovese who was murdered by blacks because she was white? Vito Genovese was a thoroughly bad bastard as was the guy who killed Kitty Genovese. But the guy who killed her would have had more than a soup can shoved up his own ass in Jail, had she been related to Don Vito. -- Count Baldoni

Rich T wrote: Quote:I thought the question was "Where the hell is Omaha?" Right. But, you know, I throw in bergs to avoid the stumbling of qualifiers. I learned that trick from the Lincoln NM County Museum. They used to speculate about all the ways Billy the Kid may've broke jail. Then they decided, obviously, that history is much more dramatic if it's comprehensive. So now they have one tale, dubious as the rest but it's their's and they stick to it, for the daring jailbreak of 1881. -- ubi dubium ibi libertas "Freedom is in Doubt" http://tremonius.blogspot.com/

Hollywood is jealous of the Mafia because they always wanted their "own thing" going on instead of the Italian thing.

I read the book a couple of years ago and it is one of the best books about the Mafia I've ever read. I meant to watch the movie afterwards and now, for the life of me, I can't remember if I did or not. If I did it was singularly unmemorable.
