Charlize Theron is merely just okay as the title character and Sophie Okenedo, so great in her oscar nominated performance in Hotel Rwanda, is shockingly flat here. And the movie isn't without it's flaws (more development on the rebellion and in particular, Frances McDormand's character would have been nice). Still, despite it's flaws, Aeon Flux is exciting and smart science fiction. Midway through the movie there is an absolutely GREAT twis that I didn't see coming and made an already cool movie into a really fascinating and intriguing and even thought provoking one as well. This is the kind of science fiction movie I love. It contains ideas. Yes, there is action. But the ideas aren't used as window dressing for the action. I... | | Read Entire Entry |

Based on the twisted MTV series, Aeon Flux takes place 400 years into the future, after most of the human race has been irradicated by a deadly virus. A city, the only society left on the face of the earth strives with a very deceptive ease. Things look beautiful but aren't that is why Aeon Flux, a deadly assassin and highly trained adventureress is out to discover the hidden truths and expose them. Be warned not to stand in her way. | Posted by: ElderPredator at February 11, 2007, 10:55 am | | Topic: Ultraviolet 5/10 Forum: JoBlo | | The movie licked balls for so many reasons and the biggest was the shit CGI that they made for the film, it really killed it. That and the fact that the story was totally fucked and made no sense. The intentions of each character was totally unclear and nothing made sense. The only redeemable thing about this movie was Milla cause she just rocks no matter what she does. (And she is so hot!) However, Equilibrium gets 10/10 anyday! | | Static Link |

The film wins an extra point with me because most of it was shot on location and looked real. Aeon was more defined, more human, feminine and even vulnerable. I could relate more with her and her reality. But Theron generally being more attractive than Jovovitch, didn't look as good playing Flux as Milla did being Ultraviolet. The main problem I have with this film is that they had surveillance systems everywhere in that small city where Aeon doesn't even try to protect her identity. Also the (shocking) revelation about Aeon's uthopic society was badly brought by the story, you didn't really feel an urgency on the part of the baddies to capture Flux and I found some of the technology exagerated. ULTRAVIOLET'S PLOT In a futuristic society, the human race develops a weapon to fight a new race of vampire like human hybrids. When Violet (Jovovich), one of the hybrids who was given the difficult task of acquiring the weapon and destroy it, reaches it, she realizes it is only a human boy called 6. Violet soon finds herself questioning, reconsidering and doubting the validity of her loyalty to the Hybrid’s cause. After going through the dilemma of betraying her own she chooses to cover 6 and defend him with both her deadly fighting skills and near limitless firearms and ammo. Violet confronted with both races will leave a trail of deaths and mayhem everywhere she and 6 set feet. Armed and Dangerous. Comic book pose. Agent out! | | Static Link |
| Posted by: ilovemovies at September 12, 2006, 11:47 pm | | Topic: Ultraviolet 5/10 Forum: JoBlo | | I don't why he did it, but for some reason, for whatever reason, director Kurt Wimmer decided to remake Equilibrium. Nevermind that Equilibrium was a pretty good movie and thus didn't need to be remade. But even if it wasn't a good movie, it would still have been better than disasterous turkey of a movie. Ultraviolet is the movie and it's truly a wretched, misbegotten, hideously awful piece of garbage. It also plays out ALMOST EXACTLY like Equilibrium. Hell, both movies even cast William Fichtner as a leader of a rebellion group. Both movies have heroes who are seemingly invincible. And both movies have a climax that play out in nearly THE EXACT SAME WAY! The difference? Equilibrium was pretty exciting and entertaining. This movie is so bad and everything Equilibrium did right, this movie does wrong. Christian Bale was compelling as the movie's hero. Milla Jovovich, on the otherhand, is utterly and completely devoid of any charisma and delivers an extremely wooden, flat and lifeless performance. The action s... | | Read Entire Entry |
| Posted by: Badbird at September 9, 2006, 10:23 pm | | Topic: Ultraviolet 5/10 Forum: JoBlo | | I would give Ultraviolet a 7/10 - flawed but fun. Beautiful visuals, great score, cool future tech concepts. The action was a bit to frenzied/repedative. Plot was too thin and movie was way too short. Someone went and gene spliced Resident Evil with Equilibrium and removed the R rating. Equilibrium gets, like, a 20/10. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: Scarface98.9 at September 9, 2006, 1:41 pm | | Topic: Ultraviolet 5/10 Forum: JoBlo | | The movie was a pile of shit, honestly. It had big goals, but everything with Violet looked airbrushed and the effects were terrible. I also hate that Cameron Bright kid and his doey eyed face and wished he died in the movie. Irritating. But I do feel that there is a good movie underneath that was waiting to get out, but was hacked away by the studios. And to an extent, it may be true since Wimmer was kicked off the project late in the game and the studio re-edited it | | Static Link |
| Posted by: Agent of God ! at September 9, 2006, 1:04 pm | | Topic: Ultraviolet 5/10 Forum: JoBlo | | Yeah, Thank you Cronos for adding that the effects on Ultraviolet really didn’t look finished. Man particularly the motorcycle chase where nothing seemed real because everything lacked details. It was like those early video game engines, you didn’t have to be a movie geek to figure those sets, rooftops and buildings weren’t real. That killed the make believe element of the film and watching the film, I felt I was actually watching the bonus material (the Making of Ultraviolet), I saw right through. The main problem here is that Kurt Wimmer with an insufficient budget tried to do too much for a script that was poorly written and not worth any attention at all. He ended up filming those huge empty white spaces, he should’ve watched the Fifth Element (8/10) and reconsider 1) Saving his money to fill the spaces 2) Hiring another set designer 3)Biting at more than he could chew 4) Stopping his the Matrix (9/10) emulation and stick to his own style 5) Like in Equilibrium (8/10) make every dollar count. (X-Men 3, Bad Boys 2, Musketeer) 4 to 6: mediocre, poor and just tolerable, better wait for television ownership. (Changing Lanes, Bad Company, MIB 2) 6 to 7: Good DVD rental, entertaining once and forgettable. (Flight Plan, Resident Evil, Die another Day) 7 to 8: Quality material could’ve been better, good to own. (X-Men, MIB, the Fifth Element) 8 to 10: Well invested 12$ at movie theatre, definite DVD buy, hard or impossible to do better. (Aliens, X-Men 2, Batman Begins) Can somebody get us the ultra cool Ultraviolet poster, printed on those pages? Agent out! | | Static Link |

You see I have been trying to print pictures with my replies and so far I have been unsuccessful. I agree that Equilibrium was much better. Badbird, scores are different for everyone. Anything below a 65% is considering failing to me. ..and while he listed the things he disliked about the movie he never really went to a rant that felt like it deserved anything lower then what he gave it. He probably liked some of the mindless action, and laughable plot. I got a small kick out of it. Quote: First of all, why is this in this thread? ..say wha? | | Static Link |

| Posted by: Agent of God ! at September 8, 2006, 10:36 pm | | Topic: Ultraviolet 5/10 Forum: JoBlo | | ULTRAVIOLET 5/10 (Rental) The GOOD: Mila Jovovich looked even better when she got mad. The BAD: No story, too many failed attempts at action (very repetitive), bad set designs, badly developed theme (Vampires that don’t really need blood…) poor acting, to much of Mila Jovovich looking sexy and trying to sound cool with corny one liners, her hair and clothing changing colors for no apparent narrative purpose. Great disappointment from the director who brought Equilibrium (8/10), this flick devoid of any emotions or feelings even if there were attempts at that. The UGLY: I heard its doppelganger (or vice versa) Aeon Flux is as bad. Agent out! | | Static Link |
