So depressed that he would kill himself. This isn't entirely Affleck's fault, part of the fault does lie in the movie itself for dwelling on how depressed Reeves was about his career. He just seemed kind of annoyed, not truly depressed about it. As a result, it was easier to buy the other two conspiracy theories than what was probably the truth. I liked Adrian Brody's stuff actually. I thought Brody gave a good performance and he's really the anchor of the movie. We see the story really through his eyes. The movie is not really about George Reeves but about Brody investigating his mysterious suicide. I think it's effective storytelling regardless of whether Brody's character was real or not. | | Static Link |

And I don't know how historically accurate the detective's story is; though I'm pretty sure the speculation on whether Reeve's death was suicide is real. I didn't think the movie was great, but it kept me interested throughout, especially Affleck's scenes as the frustrated actor. But I agree with you that Brody's scenes dragged the movie out a little too long. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: Lynn7 at March 18, 2007, 4:13 pm | | Topic: Hollywood Land Forum: JoBlo | | Hollywood Land is the movie about George Reeves who was Superman on Tv about 50 years ago. I thought the movie was really draggy and dismal. I had heard good things about it so I was disappointed. Also, people said Afleck had done a good job in it and he did except I thought he was miscast for the role. I got the feeling that he was supposed to be a fun or funny guy but Affleck didn't put this across for me. He just seemed sort of morose all the time. Was the plot about the private detective based in truth or just a plot device to propel the movie? If he was fictional then I think his character was unnecessary. | | Static Link |
