all the episodes have atleast one memorable moment or another but my favs are: Janestown: 'So this must be what gonig insane feels like' later in the episode 'No, THIS is what it what going insane must feel like' Trash: 'also...... i can kill you with my brain' classic As for order you need to see the show first as its all one continuos story. The thing was that Fox canned Firefly before WHedons story was doen and the movie picks up where the show left off excpet for the 3 issue Comic book that takes place inbetween. So to watch the movie first is like watching the last 2-3 episodes (as in story not quality) of the show before seeing the rest. And if you really enjoy them i suggest getting the trade paper back of the comic so you can see why some ppl are where they are at the begining of the movie and als olearn the fate of the men in Blue.

Out of Gas is my favorite. I always like a good origin story.

I think Ariel is still my favorite episode along with War Stories and Out of Gas. As far as character development is concerned, these episode really nailed it. But I'll agree that Jaynestown and Our Mrs. Reynolds are the funniest.

As mentioned before, 1 of my favourites too. Just got that: Jaynestown is probably a very good example, why to watch it in the correct order. It is so 'favourite' because 'we' (as the fans/watchers) know now, what kind of character/motifs/interests Jayne has => 'we' know the 'story-contrast' to the character.

Jaynestown is by far my favourite episode of the series. R.I.P.

Later, I looked for those old copies my friend sent me and enjoyed the hell out of them. Its ok to watch the movie before the series, but you'll end up feeling like the Grim Reaper when you finally watch the series Personal Faves: Our Mrs. Reynolds and Jaynestown

It's not necessary to see the tv show first, but it helps. It also makes much more sense for character development.

I have never seen the show, but really enjoyed the movie. I definitely recommend the movie, but am no expert as far as the show is concerned.

This show has everything a sci-fi fan loves - various characters of the RPG type who all work very well together, combined with a lot of humor. Put them together on a ship in outer space where there are limitless opportunities for them to meet new characters and play up to their sterotype and you have a winner. Just a fun show all around. And because Joss Whedon is so great...

Definitely watch the series before the movie, it'll help you get to know the characters more and understand why they act/do certain things in the movie. As for why it's good, it's got a group of great characters, all of which develop through the sadly short series, the scripts are great and very funny. It's a lot of fun from the first episode to the last, I was instantly hooked and I was initially very wary of checking it out.

I would say buy the TV show first because the movie makes for a great way to wrap up the story. And then cry because you have become addicted to a fantastic story with great characters, in an interesting universe and the fun will not continue. CURSE YOU FOX!!!!!

I like it for the Sci-Fi western mix as well as for the heroes are the 'loosers' of a war (how they live on and still not give up, but also are being aware of the war is over. Kinda of never giving in... Plise first who did space explosions correctly + interesting view of doing 'right' and ... Jaynestown is hilerious and Summer is .... unbdescribeable (especially in combination to the movie) and War Stories is one of my most faourite epis ever (no matter which series), but only really intertesting in connection to the 'pre-story'.... Now I have to go to watch it again, just got the time to 'lurk' a bit here arghh In each case first the tv-series and then the movie. movies's story is ~ 1/2 year after the series. But be prepared... Whedon is famous for.... not doing the expected. Each word more would be a spoiler.

I'd say rent the TV show first. Some people like it because it's Joss Whedon .. other people like the cross between a space opera and western. I'm a sucker for both sci fi and westerns so it was only natural that I'd love it. You should check it out just to see if you like it or not, because everybody has different tastes.

Buy the TV show, you will not be sorry. And it will make more sense when the fates of certain characters are determined in the movie. As for why it's great, it's hard to describe. You just have to see it.

Should I rent the TV show first before the movie? Why is it supposedly so good?
