I loved The Ice Storm, a better portrayal of suburban dysfunction than American Beauty in my opinion. The relationships, especially between Ricci and Elijah Wood and his brother come across as both disturbing but somewhat believable and sad. It was a subtle film, and I was stoked when I heard Criterion was releasing it. To be fair though, at nearly 500 titles it was bound to happen sooner or later. | | Static Link |

I'll admit, I laughed when I saw Anne Hathaway's hair when she went Farrah Fawcet. Laughing aside, it's a touching film that is much better than "the gay cowboy movie" it was labeled as by many. Can't believe it took me this long to see it. Ledger had so much promise as an actor... | | Static Link |

Some decent scenes and some good acting but as a whole I didn't particularly like it and Jack Black crying really made me laugh. Somehow, I don't think that is the desired effect. Every single character in this movie is fucked up and it got a little annoying at times. Plus, is it me or are there are some wierd and rather abrupt transitions in this flick? Re-watch: The Faculty - *** Just enormous fun from start to finish. A great, big guilty pleasure from Robert Rodriguez. Not quite up there with Sin City or Once Upon a Time in Mexico or From Dusk Till Dawn but about on the same level as Desperado and Planet Terror. | | Static Link |

I liked the first one, and this one starts out with the potential to make an interesting turn into psychological horror with that guy from the first movie. But then they somehow kill him off real quick, and we get a retread of HOSTEL. This time, it's not funny, fun, or imaginative. The kills are more about comedy than anything else. On top of that, said comedy isn't even funny. In almost every way I can imagine, this movie fails. | | Static Link |

Redux Forum: JoBlo | | Darjeeling Limited: 5.5/10 I don't care what people say about Wes Anderson movies; they're overrated and he never seems to give a shit about his characters. His line of disappointments continue. Into the Wild: 9/10 Such a surprisingly great movie that came out of nowhere for me | | Static Link |

Redux Forum: JoBlo | | There Will Be Blood Well, I can say it, the Oscars bore witness to a screwjob, as the mediocre No Country beat out this searing indictment of one man's soul. Daniel Day-Lewis truly does own the shit as Daniel Plainview who, over the three-hour running time, descends into a twisted human being who at the end can clearly be recognized as the Devil himself. The film takes its time introducing us to him and how he made his fortune, before he comes to a small town to drill oil after being tipped off by a former resident. The main dynamic is the townsfolk's Christian beliefs clashing with his money is all important focus in life. Dano nearly matches him stride for stride as the young preacher who figures out immediately what he's about and still tries to make the best of it for himself, ultimately to fail. Unlike No Country, which suffered from a serious lack of exposition, P.T. Anderson connects the dots for the viewer in the story without being overbearing, and the twists and turns he takes us thru (notably the ... | | Read Entire Entry |

Not for its subject matter, but for its treatment by its parent studio(s). Apparently dumped in an anonymous bin somewhere like an unwanted infant after prom night, then released into the world with nary a bit of buzz in sight aside from horror havens... well, you'd expect the Anti-Christ, when this movie is anything but. What it is is an original take on the vampire legend, adding a fresh layer of mythological depth to a done-to-death movie monster and creates an entirely new, alternate world that lives and breathes as its own social, political, religious and noir-ish entity. I was really impressed with its unique twist on traditional mythos, making the vampires a brotherhood or church of sorts that protect humanity, and Dougray Scott's low-key and brooding performance is the - pardon the pun - perfect anchor to a solid gothic tale. I only wish it had been a little longer to fully develop its ideas. As is, it isn't a masterpiece, but I'd be interested to see... | | Read Entire Entry |

Redux Forum: JoBlo | | 2/10 - And only a 2 for the nudity. 4/10 - Watched on TV but have seen before. 1/10 - Some of the worst special effects and CG I've ever seen. And it was on AMC for some awful reason. Only watched the last half of it. As you can tell I like watching really bad movies. They make me laugh. | | Static Link |

The midgets "black vs. white ultimate war" had me doubling over. Semi-Pro - 6/10 i really wanted to like it, and it has its moments, but it falls short. | | Static Link |
