While I never sit and stare at a movie I can't even hear becuase somebody is talking over it, I use them as white noise (background noise I don't mind) When I'm doing bills, or cleaning or something. | | Static Link |

Maybe it was an overpriced and slightly wonky format, but it WAS the very first home theater format to sell big TVs and fancy souns systems. Like widescreen? Thank laserdisc. Like THX sound? Thank laserdisc. Like Criterion titles? Thank laserdisc. Like extra features? Thank laserdisc. Like commentaries? No. Nobody likes commentaries. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: zanarkand at December 17, 2007, 2:24 am | | Topic: Laser Disc, VHS Forum: Film Hobbit | | Laser Disc was silly. Those were as big as a house. And then you had to get up in the middle of the movie and change it over! Not a big deal, but in the middle of a film, I am usually either comfortable and settled, and don't want to get up and mess with it. If I dont like the film, I have usually turned it off before the halfway point. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: Poltergeist at December 1, 2007, 1:44 pm | | Topic: Laser Disc, VHS Forum: Film Hobbit | | The original theatrical version of Star Wars episode 1 the phantom menace was the first THX laserdisc to have Dolby-EX encoded onto the disc, this cost me around £130.00 for the Japanese import. I think VHS is close to standing on its last legs after a lengthy time in the electronics consumer market place. We’ve seen D-VHS come and go so fast where they found a way of increasing the clarity of the image and incorporation Dolby digital 5.1 onto the tape. Talks of putting Dolby digital onto VHS dates back to early 1992, but it wasn’t feasible at the time. | | Static Link |

Highly boring at times, but with good parts as well. My fav part was "My Shadow and Me" The tale of how he broke Jason Mewes drug addiction. Silent Bob Speaks is also a good book, but much different. That was a collection of colums he had written. | | Static Link |

| Posted by: zanarkand at November 30, 2007, 3:54 pm | | Topic: Laser Disc, VHS Forum: Film Hobbit | | Have you seen Clerks X? I liked the bonus stuff, and the movie itself was given a real transfer into DVD. Better than the regular version. I'm a big fan of Kevin Smith, hoping his next film, Zack& Miri make a porno will be out in 2008. But I doubt he will get that title. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: rollafett at November 30, 2007, 3:48 pm | | Topic: Laser Disc, VHS Forum: Film Hobbit | | ^ Right you are, sir. And it is one of my favorite films ever. A top 10 selection, in fact. Also, in relation to the topic, it's one of the very few films I did have on VHS. | | Static Link |

Simply living there requires going to detox if you leave. Wouldn't trade it though; was fun. I'd seriously consider going back if I could justify it. | | Static Link |

| Posted by: rollafett at November 30, 2007, 1:17 pm | | Topic: Laser Disc, VHS Forum: Film Hobbit | | Hmmm...I thought that films on VHS were still happening as recently as a couple of years ago. I can't find any evidence, though. | | Static Link |

| Posted by: Volante at November 29, 2007, 9:35 pm | | Topic: Laser Disc, VHS Forum: Film Hobbit | | Was at Berkeley (UCB that is, California to the Pac 10 followers) for 2 straight years. Brain exploded at the end. Dunno about a 2001 Depp film. From Hell? | | Static Link |
| Posted by: zanarkand at November 29, 2007, 9:33 pm | | Topic: Laser Disc, VHS Forum: Film Hobbit | | Then what was that film in 01 with...Johnny Depp I think it was, where it was all gloomy and dark and bloody and stuff? Was that a Jack the Ripper film? i thought it was sleepy hollow. And how long did you live in Berkeley? | | Static Link |
| Posted by: Volante at November 29, 2007, 9:22 pm | | Topic: Laser Disc, VHS Forum: Film Hobbit | | Sleepy Hollow was 1999. I know for a fact because I saw it with my ex in So. Cal before I moved to Berkeley, which was in Jan. 2000. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: zanarkand at November 29, 2007, 8:41 pm | | Topic: Laser Disc, VHS Forum: Film Hobbit | | Sleepy Hollow was 2001. But what about VHS? I know they were making that as of 2002, I saw Star Wars part 2 for sale at a yard sale on VHS. After that, I have no idea. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: Volante at November 29, 2007, 7:54 pm | | Topic: Laser Disc, VHS Forum: Film Hobbit | | Looks like no movie made after 2000 went to LaserDisc...the last high profile titles released would've been X-Men and MI2. These are Japan releases though, so good luck. Last US releases were Bringing out the Dead and Sleepy Hollow (Source: http://www.lddb.com/index.php ) | | Static Link |
