Yeah, the whole western angle on Avatar is partly my fault. I seen Quigley Down Under and didn't notice in the article "That Avatar was NOT a western" and I just assumed it was a western because Quigley Down Under is a western. So um, sorry about that Josh. Side of Titanic Aged Meat Dipped In A Nice Western Omelette Sauce: Anyways, James Cameron did some really great films! I hope he hasn't lost his touch over the years. The overwhelming, massive scaled visuals will overshadow how stupid and preachy it is.

Ok, all I based my post on was the Cowboys and Aliens image, and then I even dropped the Alien part off!

Congratulations Josh on somehow managing to make everyone think this is a Space Western. Are Browncoats that desperate for kudos that they want to try and accuse James Cameron of ripping off Josh Whedon? Anyway sounds like there's room for a few rewrites but nice to see JC is slotting in plenty big action sequences. We need more JC action set-pieces in our lives.

Avatar could be loosely based on Star Trek Voyager Episode “Night.” Synopsis: The voyager crew find themselves traveling in a desolate region of space where there are no star systems for two years. They are traveling in a complete dark void. They run across a primitive native night species who board voyager and attack them by mistake. It turns out there was another species known as the “Malon” who had been indirectly responsible for these night aliens attacking Voyager. The Malon had been dumping garbage or anti matter radiation in this dark void that had been killing these night beings. So of course, the Voyager crew eventually side with protecting these natives by destroying the Malon vessel and closing off the gateway (worm hole) that leads into this dark void where these night aliens live (Thus protecting these natives from further environmental contamination). Close enough. Worse, it could easily change by the time it's filmed.

Welp, not reading the script, I'm just going by what's posted. But Firefly is, basically, cowboys in space Anyway, Cameron doing anything like Firefly would suck horribly. The man couldn't write good dialogue if it beat him over the head. Don't get me wrong, love the films, very shiny, but oy, so cringe worthy dialogue...

It's definitely NOTHING like Firefly. When I said it's like Quigley Down Under, it's not because it's a western. Quigley Down Under is about a foreigner who goes to the bush and goes native and decides to protect the natives against his employers. That's what Avatar is about. Substitute aliens for natives and sub "alien planet" for "bush".

Is cowboys and aliens a preachy, extremist environmentalism movie masquerading as a sci fi space adventure?

This sounds a lot like... A web comic turned graphic novel (Which is also supposed be in development for a film). The artwork appears to be pretty good. However, the story is nothing spectacular (at least the web comic portion part that is). Web Comic Link: http://www.drunkduck.com/CowboysAndAliens/

READ MY REVIEW - It's like Quigley Down Under... but with aliens. Discuss the script review, and the movie below.
