There are a lot of Alien and Predator fans out there...and they should have brought in a much better director for the first film to at least accommodate it's fan base. However... The one good thing about AVP 2 is that it is being written by someone who is primarily a script writer and not a film director.
The second good thing about AVP 2 is that it is a lot more bloodier and gorier looking than the 1st (Which would be a major reason why someone would want to see a film like this in the first place).
The third good thing about AVP 2 is that the effects should be top notch because the Strause brothers were visual effects supervisors on a number of other big FX films. In fact, AVP R (The Sequel) could be the next "Snakes on A Plane" or "Silent Hill"; both of which had not been critically pre-screened and had already received an average plus score rating from thousands of movie goers online. I am not saying I am an entertainment lawyer or anything... but I have worked independent film and have studied the film industry enough to know that it is not the case over the past few years. The primary reason to why they haven't recently done that many cross overs yet is because of movie rights issues. However, the trend is changing a bit...but very slowly. Also I agree with cavie, many of the other crossovers probably weren't that good or they'd be a little more memorable. My only complaint for the one that was: Why didn't they do the comic adaptation that kicked off AvP? Will they ever? That would have been much more epic in feel, and slightly less cheesier. First, I knew the smell of poop was in the air when I heard that it was going to be PG-13. Second, I read an article stating that Paul Anderson's private screeners told him (politely) that his movie was complete garbage; which it was. Sorry, no offense there AVP Lovers!!! Anyways...I know clips and trailers can be deceptive.... but from what I seen of AVP R so far... is kind of exciting. I am not expecting this movie to be a masterpiece. I know it will be nothing more than a goofy sci fi popcorn flick... but if the movie delivers lots of non stop rated "R" bad a*s killing and senseless violence... well, I am game.
