I go for big picture, big sound, seeing it with an audience. At least in theory. But theaters are so shitty so often these days it ruins that. Cell phones and people who refuse to hire babysitters really ruin the theater experience. I'd have to agree with that, for the most part (I'd rather sleep than watch Star Wars)..but seriously, theater disturbances have gotten too out of control these days, especially if you're going to see a film at night, or on the weekend, holiday, etc...I try to ONLY catch matinées (lower prices, less crowds = less disruptions, most of the time ). If you're going any other time, forget it. At least that's how it works for me. Quote: Originally Posted by Deus Ex Machina) Besides, it's not like people have stopped going to movies altogether. Expect Cavie's Cinetopia prasing when he shows up As far as my thoughts, I think it's only natural for DVD sales to start slowing down. I'd imagine by now lots of people have replaced their VHS collections so the only major drive is new titles. Same thing that happened to CDs. When the CD came out, everyone had to replace their cassettes, but unless you break it, you don't need to get a new one. Once everyone picks up The White Album, it's not gonna move off the shelf as often Then there's the Halo 3 factor: http://www.computerandvideogames.com....php?id=173782 | | Static Link |

Forum: Film Hobbit | | Really interesting article, Scott--well written and informative without very much personal finger-pointing. Good stuff. As for the topic itself, this COULD be the best thing to happen in a while. I immediately thought of Cloverfield as an ideal solution to the big-name star problem. Heaven forbid, Hollywood movies should start hiring more no-names. Given how many Hollywood stars want to be in independent movies regardless of the paycheck, and how Hollywood could save millions by hiring actors who don't cost millions, it could wind up with a kind of funny reversal situation. I'm kind of curious as to the specific numbers. The fact that movies now cost generally $100 million, as opposed to how much they did before--is the money going to CG effects? Costumes? Extras? All of the above, I realize, but it's hard to fathom all this costing ten times the amount it did two decades ago. I'm shocked that CG effects aren't going down in price--there must be a competitive market there that someone can feasibly undercut. ... | | Read Entire Entry |
