Maybe i can catch it in a second viewing. I too love movies involving time travel, and i really thought this movie was fantastic. I at first dismissed this movie when it was coming out in theaters as a blah film then i finally caught it over on Cinemax and was pleasantly suprised. Also is everyone in this movie fat? Kilmer man youve let yourself go! 9/10 | | Static Link |

However, I did find myself enjoying it immensely. ATF Agent Doug Carlin (Washington) has found himself in the middle of a huge terrorist mess. A ferry in New Orleans has been destroyed by a man who believes he is doing a patriotic act for America and Carlin is on the case to find out who this man is. It seems like any other case until the body of a beautiful woman ("Claire Kuchever" played by Paula Patton) washes ashore and they discover that, all though she looks as though she was killed in the explosion, she in fact died in a completely different act of murder. While Carlin is investigating the woman's murder, he is recruited into a special investigative team run by the FBI and in the command of Agent Pryzwarra (Val Kilmer). Carlin quickly realizes that the technology that this unit possesses is more than just a means of viewing previously-viewed video-feeds from satellites, b... | | Read Entire Entry |

This movie is really great, Tony Scott and Denzel Washington are a perfect combination (see also Man on Fire). Yes, although improbable, this film doesn't really constrain itself with the laws of our reality and steps outside those boundaries by using Scott's signature direction and Paul Cameron's cinematography. The film is a little hard to track (the techno-jargon to explain the "surveillance" was a bit far-reaching) but I can definitely tell that I would have to watch the film multiple times to pick up some subtleties I know I missed. The plot is highly creative and the pacing reminded me of Enemy of the State. A real gem in this movie is Erika Alexander's contribution as one of the technicians. She provides a needed dose of female rationale to the otherwise all male crowd in the "viewing trailer" and her emotion during Minuti's murder interjected the scene with a note of hu... | | Read Entire Entry |

It's very cool with a lot of neat little twists and is just a slick and entertaining ride with yet another rock solid performance from the always reliable Denzel Washington and solid support from Paula Patton and Jim Caviezel. It has a lot in common with the just released sci-fi thriller Next, but Deja Vu is a much more satisfying and overall much better movie. And I'm SO glad that Tony Scott has WISELY chosen to dial down his "stylistic" antics. If this was anything like Man on Fire, it probably would have ruined an otherwise very cool thriller. 7/10 | | Static Link |
| Posted by: psycheoutsteve at April 27, 2007, 6:27 pm | | Topic: Deja Vu (spoilers) Forum: JoBlo | | Deja Vu is a film that's riddled with implausibilities and an overly convoluted script. First off, I was disappointed to discover that the filmmakers intentions weren't to explain deja vu in general, but rather how it applied to one event. I thought the former idea would've made for a more interesting film, but that's just me. The second problem I have is with Denzel's character in the movie. How many times has Denzel been playing the same "know-it-all" cop character in his recent films? He was good in the role, but his character didn't really engage my interest in his fate. Unfortunately, none of the other characters in deja vu are very interesting and some are downright cliche. You have the scientific genius, who for some reason helps Denzel time travel despite the risk of killing him in the process. You have the standard psychotic nut-case terrorist, who's motives were unbelievable. And of course, you have the standard love interest, who's fate is connected direly to the shaky plot. Where Deja V... | | Read Entire Entry |
