We talked about it for MONTHS. I was sitting in the very back row of the theater holding hands with my 19 year old girlfriend (now wife of 26 years) and when that scene happened she almost broke my hand. I now have arthritis in my left hand as a result of it and BELIEVE ME I remind her of it EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!! | | Static Link |

In a Playboy interview back in 1972 Jack Nicholson said this: "The censors say they're protecting the family unit in America when, in fact, the reality of the censorship is if you suck a t*t, you're an 'X', but if you cut it off with a sword you're a 'GP'". | | Static Link |

You really can't blame Americans for movie bloodlust. The British reveled in bloody horror films in the 60s, the Italians went totally ape-sh*t for mega-gore in the 70s and pretty much every other country followed suit in the 80s and 90s. Japan, Korea, Germany and France have all pumped out gory killfests of note in large numbers. If anything, gore is good business. Action films are the #1 film import worldwide, followed by Horror. Audiences everywhere like to be scared and slightly repulsed on an emotional level. And at the same time, you don't have to subtitle a mutilation. Always a bonus when you want to get an English-language film into a non-English-speaking country. | | Static Link |

I saw this at an arthouse theater on a midnight showing when it was still banned in Canada. | | Static Link |

Up there with the goriest are some of the movies from the "Video Nasties" list, as well as a film called Cannibal Holocaust. It was banned in the U.S. for some time, and the director was arrested once it was released. Mainly because of all the animals killed in the making of it. There is some messed up stuff in it... check it out. | | Static Link |

I've enjoyed gory movies since the 70's and I don't get too wrapped up in whether it's 'healthy' or 'moral' because I know at the end of the day the actors washed the moulage off and went and had a beer with their buds. Having said that, I really don't like the torture porn movies. Maybe it's a small difference, but seeing someone die because their head explodes like in Scanners (or their entire body - remember John Cassavetes in The Fury?) isn't nearly as troublesome to me as watching someone suffer for a long, long time even if it's fake. Real violence, pain, and death make me want to hurl until I'm inside out. -Sandy | | Static Link |

I was going to be bitter and angry if that lawnmower scene (or any scene from Dead Alive) didn't make this little list.. I haven't watched any of the videos yet, but from the looks of it, it isn't a bad list at all. I've seen a couple of the flicks. kudos to elliotness for mentioning Bad Taste...PJ is the king of "splatstick"..heh. The Hostel scene is very noteworthy as well. | | Static Link |

I think the media makes it seem like it, but the actual audience is often small. Hostel 2 fared very poorly at the box office, for one. Rarely do any of these actually become a blockbuster, they just turn major profits because you can make them for pennies and get dollars back in return. Watch me get proven wrong by the first person to check out Box Office Mojo But we are a lot more forgiving of violence in media though, compared to European nations. On a personal level, I just don't care for em. They don't do anything for me. Ooh, blood bucket splattering all ov... | | Read Entire Entry |

Someone falls off a cliff, cracks his head open, and seagulls eat his brains. Then he ties his belt around his head to keep his brains from falling out. The he mauls an alien and puts some of the alien brians in his brain. There's also a scene of aliens vomiting into a communal bowl then eating from it. Obscene, nasty stuff, but actually very funny. | | Static Link |

Between the ninja priest and the lawnmower.... mmmm. Perfection. Recently I saw that beaten though. Anyone else seen Boy Eats Girl? They basically end up redoing the lawnmower with a piece of farm equipment and much better effects. | | Static Link |

Disagree? Got anything gorier? I have loads of gut-muncher and slasher flicks, so I'm going to have to think about some gore. I'm sure I can think of one to top these scenes... Yes! Cannibal Holocaust! Lots of sick and depraved stuff there. | | Static Link |
