Streaming is basically renting, not purchasing like downloading is. Also, the faster it takes to arrive, the more compressed it's going to be, and the lesser the quality will be in the end. | | Static Link |

Forum: JoBlo | | I think downloadable movies are going to have a bigger impact on the cable and satellite TV market than on the DVD market. Most of the lines of thinking here I don't get. I doubt anyone is opposed to watching movies on HBO, and with the insanely high qualities of computer monitors and DVI-in TV sets, with iTunes downloads, for example, you are getting a better quality movie than you would on cable or broadcast - baring an HD broadcast, but even in that case, you can still download HD content. Hard drives crash, cable stations go down, and DVD get scratched to shit. At least with downloaded movies, you are permitted to make copies. Going to the theater is the best experience, owning media is the second; downloadable films are leagues above cable and satellite subscriptions, minus the limited titles at the moment, but even still - at least you get some choice, instead of just hoping they program some good movies on HBO this month. | | Static Link |

I can't even imagine not having DVDs with their cases. With the amount of DVD ripping programs out there I could be saving a few thousand dollars a year, but I just can't imagine having shitty little CD cases amongst my ginormous shelf of DVDs. One, it just doesn't feel right, and two, I love my cases and just looking at my collection brings a smile to my face. Fuck burning DVDs! | | Static Link |

I personally don't see people wanting to go through those kind of wait times, and also not be able to use their computer (or have it go painfully slow) for other tasks the entire time it's downloading.
