Answer to your question Arob: definitely not! It isn't even thriller, just very good drama. Definition of horror-movie (Charles Derry, Dark Dreams: A Psychological History of the Modern Horror Film; Macfarland, 1977) from Wikipedia: Quote: Horror films are films of the horror genre that are designed to elicit fright, fear, terror, or horror from viewers. In horror film plots, evil forces, events, or characters, sometimes of supernatural origin, intrude into the everyday world. Common horror film figures include vampires, zombies, monsters, serial killers, demons, ghosts and a range of other fear-inspiring characters. Early horror films often drew inspiration from characters and stories from classic literature, such as Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Wolf Man, The Phantom of the Opera and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Have you even seen this movie? I would not classify this as a horror movie (not at all) unless you some strange definition on what a horror movie is, to me horror is Hostel, Jeepers Creepers, Nightmare On Elm Street, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Piranha, etc... and what does a "smart horror" mean. If you are familiar with the Coen brothers oevre you wouldn't dare calling this a horror movie. If it needs to be classiefied it would be better to call it a crime/drama. Btw the Coen brothers aren't strangers to the oscars, they've won before.

In my mind there is no doubt - I totally think the Coen Bros movie No Country for Old Men is most definitely a horror movie. Indeed, the book by Cormac McArthy was a horror novel... But the Coen brothers and Miramax have not advertised the movie as such... I believe they have indexed this film as 'Action / Thriller'. But its so much a HORROR MOVIE... A smart horror movie. Think about it. The movie has a villain, who is indeed very scary, and a mystery and plenty of creepy suspenseful moments.... Ah yes... but when was the last time a horror movie won Best Picture at the Academy Awards?
