I want to believe the cast will make it worthwhile. I want to believe that it won't come across as incredibly silly. I want to believe M. Night Shyamalan can get back on track. But before the red-band trailer came out, the trailer I saw before that was one of the most boring I'd ever seen. And The Happening is one of the laziest titles I've ever heard. The Happening...no, really? I'm surprised the tagline isn't Shit Happens. | | Static Link |

Forum: JoBlo | | Some of the visuals in the red band trailers are pretty eerie, and I find it somewhat jarring that so much of it appears to be set in broad daylight. That said, the film's premise seems to demand more subtlety and ambiguity (even if it is ostensibly somewhat nonsensical) than what is indicated to exist based on reviews, the clips of the acting are not promising at all, and the "menacing winds" clips come across as laughable. I'd like to believe it could be good, but I doubt it. | | Static Link |

I thought that the Ruins would be a solid overall scary horror movie based ona good book.. and it turned out to be crap and have little character development. So I try not to judge movies on trailers now a days, even though its really really hard.. because most movies u can get the exact feel from the trailer. Remember how good the trailer for Jumper was? That shit blew my nuts off. A trailer is exactly that, a trailer. I think these trailers look pretty cool.. and it reminds me a lot like Stephen King's CELL.. minus the insane zombie like murdering people... but it still looks pretty crazy. I'll be there, but I like to go into movies with a clean slate, not thinking about anything before I seethem. I do make up my mind about how I think a movie will be sometimes, and it usually makes the movie have a forced outcome on my perspective of it.. and I hat... | | Read Entire Entry |
| Posted by: CosmicPuppet at May 17, 2008, 1:51 pm | | Topic: THE HAPPENING TRAILER!!! Forum: JoBlo | | Well, judging a film by its trailer is the entire point of them releasing a trailer. I don't know why else they would release a trailer for a film without the main reason being they want to garner curiosity in the film, so your argument doesn't really make sense. Didn't everybody judge Meet the Spartans by the trailer? Hell, even by the poster? A lot of people were up in arms about Heath Ledger's Joker until they saw the trailer and realized what he was going for with his performance. So are we all treating the Dark Knight unfairly because we're not allowed to form an opinion from the trailer? It just seems like your rule is okay when the trailer excites the viewer, but if it doesn't than you're being close minded and you want the movie to fail. | | Static Link |

That is a legitimate opinion, just as legitimate as saying they appear to give "capable performances." Either way a person is basing it on what they have seen thus far. Neither is right or wrong. Of course it could surprise and end up being good. It's just that all the evidence so far is to the contrary. | | Static Link |
