THE ROAD is set for release on November 26, 2008 according to Box Office Mojo. In addition to THE ROAD, Viggo has another awesome-sounding movie coming out this fall: Appaloosa: Based on the novel by the same name, this film is a Western written/directed by and starring Ed Harris. Viggo Mortensen, Jeremy Irons, Lance Henriksen, and Renee Zellweger also star. I haven't checked to see what the story is about, but the cast (save for Renee) is worth the price of admission alone. | | Static Link |

Brothers: Directed by Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father), this tells the story of a young man (Jake Gyllenhaal) who must comfort the family of his older brother (Tobey Maguire) after he disappears in Afghanistan. Rounding out the cast is Natalie Portman as Tobey's wife. Being a fan of both MLF and ITNOFTF, I've been waiting for the next poingnant masterpiece from Jim, and this could do the trick. The cast doesn't look too shabby either. Release is currently set for December 5. Trial of the Chicago 7: Directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Aaron Sorkin, this chronicles the trial of some of America's leading anti-war activists for the violence at the Chicago 68 convention. Among them are Abbie Hoffman (Sacha Baron Cohen) and Black Panther leader Bobby Seale (Will Smith). Rounding out the cast are Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Jeff Daniels, Keven Spacey, Colin Hanks, and Adam Arkin. Is it just me or could this be one of 2008's crown jewels? The Dark Knight - I liked Batman Begins well enough, and Heath Ledger's performance in the trailer alone was amazing. Can't wait to see the full film. 2. Iron Man - ok, I'm not a big fan of Marvel or the Ol' Shellhead, but the trailer was pretty cool, the effects look neat, and I'm praying that this is one Marvel movie that doesn't get bogged down in angst (Hulk), campiness (Spider-Man, FF), or completely botch the character's origin and additude (Punisher, Daredevil). 3. Star Trek - Enterprise and most of Voyager aside, I'm a Trek fan (DS9 being my favorite series). I'm curious as to how this will work. I'm still on the fence at this point as to whether or not they can make this work, and given that it has the same writers as the crappy Transformers movie (yes, I was not the least bit impressed by that film) my expectations are not high. That said, I'll go see it in theatres because its Star Trek and because this could be the one that either saves or utterly destroys the franchise. 4. Indiana Jones and t... | | Read Entire Entry |

This has the potential to be truly great, but I wonder who they could find to play Mortensen's son. Milk: Directed by Gus Van Sant, this biopic chronicles the rise and assassination of gay San Francisco politician Harvey Milk (Sean Penn). Emile Hirsch is set to play Milk protege Cleve Jones and Josh Brolin will play Dan White, a former SF councilman and assassin of both Milk and SF Mayor George Moscone (Victor Garber). The road to finally making a film about one of America's most pivotal, but lesser-known, figures has been at least 20 years in the making, and I'm elated that we'll finally get to see it. While there were a few teasers for those (one for Fellowship and one for Two Towers--which was shown with later runs of Fellowship and is an Easter egg on the Felowship extended version), the big trailers didn't come until 3 months before the movies came out. I guess since Indiana Jones is SUCH a big property, it wouldn't take too much to spark interest. Heck, the morning after the televised debut of the trailer (assuming they do as they did with Episode III), there will probably be a lot of mentions on morning news shows--probably with news anchors reminiscing about when they first saw Indy. | | Static Link |

THAT is my most anticipated FALL release of 2008 (Valkyrie and Benjamin Button are clawing at each other for second place). Then again, when you bring together Sir Ridley, Leo, Russ, and Bill (Monohan), that certainly perks up some ears. Better still, it's due on 10/10, a few days before my 23rd birthday--what a lovely early present from Warner Bros. Oh, and Monotreme, I think I mentioned Frost/Nixon a few posts above yours. | | Static Link |

Sign me up!) Frost/Nixon: Based on Peter Morgan's stage play, this Ron Howard film chronicles the efforts of British journalist David Frost (played by Michael Sheen in both the movie and the play) to land an interview with former president Richard Nixon (Frank Langella). I've heard great things about the stage play and am glad to see that Howard was able to get the entire original cast (which also includes Kevin Bacon, Oliver Platt, and Sam Rockwell). Ther've also been some advanced screenings in NYC and LA that have met with really good responses. Could this be Ron Howard's redemption? | | Static Link |
