This is a terrific, underrated thriller. Branagh who often courts Shakespearan material channels Hitchcock in this moody, involving thriller. Emma Thompson plays a woman experiencing emotional distress. Branagh tries to help her. Before they know what is happening they are caught up in a complicated dilema of past and present lives, guilt and remorse. Dead Again is a complicated, well written thriller. It gets its effects not just through the scare you moments but via the way the script so aptly defines both the people and the situation. Thompson is good but Branagh gives the film's best performance as two very different characters. Andy Garcia and Robin Williams give terrific supporting roles. 8/10

Yes, this is a very good thriller. Kenneth Branagh does an excellent job in the director's chair. And those B/W scenes were just wonderful. As for the acting, it was good all around. Dead Again is a smart movie, and Mr. Hitchcock would've loved it. Grade: 8/10 Strider

I'm glad you brought up this film. It's one of my favorites. Kenneth Branagh does a good job with this "Hitchcockian" effort. The mood and style is so perfect (love that music by Patrick Doyle), and there is plenty of humor, too. The only fault I found with this genuine classic was Andy Garcia's old age makeup, which looked too phony. Robin Williams' cameo was good without being too distracting. I like all the foreshadowing with the scissors. This film could have been made in the 40's, it's so old fashioned. Rating: 9/10

Dead Again
Starring Kenneth Branagh, Emma Thompson, Derek Jacobi, Wayne Knight, Andy Garcia, Robin Williams.
Directed by Kenneth Branagh Dead Again is a great thriller by Kenneth Branagh, in one of the "non-shakespeare" films he's directed. The plotline involves a man helping out a woman with no memory, as she starts having flashbacks of a past life in which she was murdered and her husband was convicted. A few interesting plot revelations come along. Kenneth Branagh does a solid job directing this movie. It moves at a good pace, and the style (especially in the b/w scenes) is quite interesting. The changes between present and past are also handled pretty well. The acting is solid, with Branagh and Thompson having dual roles. Robin Williams and Andy Garcia are good in their parts too. The score, by Patrick Doyle, is excellent, although sometimes it doesn't fit the action perfectly. This is definitely a recommended thriller, and even if it's *a little* implausible, you'll still be thinking a...
