Dude, all i'm saying is that it would of been nice for them, and not just the producer, to acknowledge McCarthy's value to the film that got them 6 Oscars (so shy they got choked up and forgot who the author was? Joel Coen seemed pretty fine up there). That's it. Everyone is still gonna watch their movies, but they left a bitter taste when everything could of been so much sweeter, you know what i mean? You say who cares, i say i care and i'm sure others do too, because I'm a fan of their work and when they do something like this they lose credit in my bank,...but anyway, i'm gonna stop here cause it's pointless to go on about this. Whatever man, they got their awards they had their moment on stage and they used it in the way they wanted to and no one can blame them for that. It's done.

Cormac McCarthy doesn't give a tiddly twat if he gets thanks or not on stage. Him and the Coens get along just fine because they're of the same mindset. They both rarely give interviews, they don't elaborate or wax philosophical about the deep symbolism and the creative process of their work. Its all simplified and just done. People like that do not get all wrapped up in dumb drama and petty discussions like "I didn't get my thanks". They are as un-Hollywood as you can get.... which is probably why people want to and continue to enjoy working with them.

Thanks for that Pulp. Yeah i just reread the acceptance speeches of the three big wins they got. Joel does say nice things about letting them play in their sandbox, making a movie with his brother when they were young, etc. But they did not thank Cormac McCarthy. They thanked the producer for bringing the book to them, they said they've only adapted Homer other than McCarthy but no thank you for the man who gave them the whole story from beginning to end. Pretty bad. Rudin, the producer, gave McCarthy props. Hmmmm.

Just to nitpick here, the entire Academy does vote for the winners after the nomination process (except for Foreign, Documentary, and Shorts, where a select group who attended special screenings get to vote). During the nomination process, the members of the particular branch select the nominees (actors nominate actors, directors nominate directors, etc.) and everyone in the Academy puts in there nominations for Best Picture. After that, everyone votes for everything. So, when it comes to the winners of the awards you can blame the Academy. If someone wasn't nominated then you blame the branch members. Just wanted to clarify that.

Alright! I came home especially to see the ceremony but had to go back to the base, so here are my (slightly belated) thoughts on all the awards handed out: Best Picture No Country for Old Men What George Clooney said about Daniel Day-Lewis more than applies for most of the rest of the major categories as well. I saw No Country for Old Men and absolutely loved it, labeled it a masterpiece and the best film of the year. But then There Will Be Blood came along, and it totally blew me away. It is the latter film that is my favourite of the year, although both are total masterpieces, Blood just takes the cake. So if at first I was ecstatic that this would be the Coen brothers’ (in my top 5 favourite directors of all time list) year, and that they and their film would get a pile of well-deserved Oscars, after taking in There Will Be Blood I couldn’t help but cross my fingers for P.T. Anderson and his mind-blowing masterpiece. But no matter – now that the Academy has given the Coens what they have deserved for a l...

Persepolis was the better animated film, it was hand drawn! It had more depth, more humour, more emotions and in the end a better film.

Yes, I was rooting for a Persepolis upset, even if Ratatouille is great, and if any animated film got snubbed Id say it was Beowulf for technical merit alone. Surf's Up gimmick was cool and the movie was actually a surprise for me, but it still felt odd seeing it up there.

I'm pretty happy with the results this year. In the Joblo Oscar contest I got 16/24, which is a little disappointing compared to last year's (I had 17/24). However there is one thing that I wasn't happy about the show and I need to get this of my chest.... What. The. Fuck. I mean seriously What The FUCK!!! Not only did they piss me off for not nominating The Simpsons Movie (5/5) for Best Animated Film but they had to piss me off even more by doing this! How in the hell did the special effects in The Golden Compass (3/5) beat out the far more impressive and awe-inspiring CGI work of Transformers (4.5/5)? Don't get me wrong the effects in Compass were really good but at the same I didn't think that they were that outstanding. To me Transformers is one of the few films of the last few years that I didn't think of the word "CGI" as I was watching it, they were so realistic that I was 98% convinced that they were actual living, breathing giant robots. I don't think I have ever been so pissed with the Ac...

Im happy with the oscars. A couple of things made me upset and happy, 1) It made me happy that ONCE won an oscar for best song. It was a good movie as a superior soundtrack 2) and it made me upset that Javier Bardem won best Supporting, Casey Affleck should of had it in the bag, but No Country had a shitload of hype due to the Coens' which it was well deserved. I just though Javier Bardem rarely hardly slightly acted in No Country, there was hardly any dialogue in the whole movie which i found pretty interesting and awesome, but if youre going to win Best Supporting ACTOR, then ACT, and thats why Casey Affleck and did and nailed the shit out of that role. Any Takers?

Pros (I'll give this a shot) - John Stewart. Funny man. - Once winning Best Original Song and then Stewart inviting Irglova back on stage to finish her speech. - Ellen Page. - Daniel Day Lewis winning. - There Will Be Blood winning Cinematography (though I haven't seen Jesse James and it looks beautiful) - Swinton winning. Great surprise. Rooting for Ryan and Ronan, haven't seen Blanchett and I think Ruby Dee was completely undeserving. Short screen time and over the top, IMO. - Ellen Page. - Juno winning Best Original Screenplay. I've read the actual screenplay and it's very well written. Completely entertaining, clever, etc. Michael Clayton was a INCREDIBLY smart movie though, and if that won I wouldn't have complained. (Okay, maybe a little) Cons - - Slightly Page losing Actress. I haven't seen ANY of the other nominees, so I can't judge but I just hoped. - No Country winning. It's definitely an instant classic, but on a repeated viewing I found it a BIT dull during some scenes and didn't completely hold ...

A fairly satsfying bunch of winners on the whole and the awards show engaging enough throughout -- why weren't clips from the 5 Best Picture nominees shown though?... Some standout moments for me included: - Daniel Day-Lewis winning. Nuff said. - Marion Cotillard and Tilda Swinton (the former, for me, was the most beautiful looking woman of the night btw), both of whom seemed genuinely moved and surprised at their respective wins, and their speeches were among my favorites out of all the winners. I now want to see Michael Clayton based on Swinton's win alone, she's such a terrific character actress (see Orlando, The Deep End, and Young Adam especially) who's definitely long overdue. ..bah, I'll just say that all the acting winners made me happy, and that of course includes Javier Bardem - "Falling Slowly" and Marketa Irglova finishing up her speech -- I'm not the biggest fan of Once or Irglova in that movie by any means, but that song is a highlight and it was nice to see them perform. - Jon Stewar...

A great host? Check. Great acceptance speeches all around? Check. Hordes of very well-deserved winners? Double-check. I would certainly say that this year's Academy Awards were better than the average anual ceromony. Besides the occasionally unnecessary montages, everything seemed to run very smoothly and much straighter-to-the-point on the shoulders of Stewart's tremendous ease and bravado as a host along with a slew of memorable winners. My favorite moments: - John Stewart's wonderfully executed opening monologue. - Tilda Swinton winning for best support actress. A wonderful surprise coupled with an hilarious acceptance speech. - "Falling Slowly"; one of the best and most poignant performances ever at the Academy Awards. - Marketa Irglova getting the chance to go back on stage and give her touching acceptance speech. - Marion Cotillard upsetting Julie Christie for best actress with a very well-deserved win. Her surprise was completely reflected in her sincerity. - Javier Bardem winning for best s...

Just because they don't stand there blubbering into the microphone thanking everyone that pops into their head doesn't mean it was a bad speech.
