Standing on it's own it might have seemed fresh but being based on a beloved story and a superior film (George Pal's version) I just found this movie to be a little tired. It seemed as if a lot of it was left on the cutting room floor. I found that the new ideas that this movie tried to show were not fleshed out enough. The changes to the Morlocks being my main gripe. First off they come out in daylight which they didn't in the original but hey no one wants an duplicate movie so I will let it go. Second, the way the hunt the humans was puzzling at first. They started shooting them with these darts and yet nothing happened when they were shot! I later connected the dots and realized they were scent markers but with how sloppy that scene was handled how the hell was I suppose to no at first. Here is a question that I would like to see if anyone could answer m... | | Read Entire Entry |

IMO, she should be nommed for best supporting actress. This is my favorite movie of all time. Seriously though... 3/10 As blankpage put it... "nuff said" | | Static Link |

I also could not understand a single word that albino guy was saying at the end to Guy's character. Not a bad movie, but I just didn't like it. Rating: 5/10 | | Static Link |

Not a movie for everybody but if you go to blockbuster and look on the bakc of the bb case of this movie and look at the recommendations and liked one of those movies then you'll probably like this one. Its action packed. A very fun film. 7/10 | | Static Link |

Off to buy this score, I liked it. Cinematography from our beloved Academy Award Nominee Donald McAlpine (MOULIN ROUGE!) For awards? I dunno ... visual fx were nice, but ... we'll see how the rest of the season treats VFX ... looks to be an exciting year. But -- After another viewing, I'd wager the special effects are worthy of Oscar consideration. Did you see the way history melts back & forth? It was phenomenal! I know this year will convuluted w/ special effects films, but THE TIME MACHINE is the first real eye-popper so far. | | Static Link |

But this movie is BORING!! With the exception of the idea, the film was a plodding, dull mess. The movie itself was wonderfully done, I liked the Morlocks, and was impressed by the frightening scene where the moon was about to collide with earth, but there was something missing. It simply wasn't that interesting. RATING 5/10 | | Static Link |

The plot is ok, and it got very cool Special Effects. The time transitions were some amazing visual experiences and Guy Pearce performance was as solid as usual. Otherwise, the supporting cast were not as good as Guy Pearce.
I agree that Jeremy Irons was not good and I wans't convinced by Samanta Mumba's role. The directing seems just OK (not to good, not too bad) and the script wasn't a jewelry neither. My final grade for the film: 6/10 | | Static Link |

As a matter of fact, that's one of the few things I liked about this film. Don't get me wrong, this is a beautiful looking movie, but the script needed some work. Guy Pearce's character wasn't anything like he was in the book or the previous movie. The whole thing with his girl just bored me. In the book he was just fascinated about the future and where humanity will go, but here it's just for a girl. Lets not forget about how crappy and fake the Morlocks looked. The most unconvincing creatures I've ever seen. I was worried they would break or something. I also really thought the first half of this movie was slow and dull. I remember contimplating to leave the theatre or not. By the time he actually time traveled I decided to stay. Lets just say this movie may have needed more complex characters and more intense moments. 5/10 | | Static Link |

RATING: 8/10 Director: Simon Wells
Starring: Guy Pearce, Samantha Mumba, Mark Addy
Genre: Science-Fiction Adventure
Year of Release: 2002
Reviewer: urbanlegend23 THE TIME MACHINE is likely to be one of the most underrated and misunderstood movies of the year. I had read reviews of this movie before seeing it, and they were mostly bad. When I saw the film I was shocked because I thought the movie was so good and couldn't understand how critics could bash such an excellently made and well-paced movie experience. And then even the reviews that were above average only claimed the adventure to be “a fun and entertaining movie, no more”. Personally, I thought the movie was more than just fun and entertaining, it had a good message and was a terrific adaptation of H.G. Wells’ classic. Most of the critiques I’ve read of this movie say that it is bad because it is so unrealistic and blah blah blah. Um, hello? Knock knock! Come back into the word of reality! This is a movie about a... | | Read Entire Entry |
