I'm not THAT surprised Semi-Pro bombed. I love Will Ferrell and even I wasn't very excited about that movie. I believe this is the first movie of his that I wasn't looking forward to. Simply put, the commercials and previews for this sucked.

Wow . . . Semi-Pro bombed. That's a bit surprising what with all the promotional stuff Will Ferrell did for the movie (he was all over the place!). I still want to see it, but won't until Tuesday.

Not too good for Semi-Pro, but it will end up being a financial success regardless. Vantage Point did pretty well on its second weekend. The Spiderwick Chronicles is still doing well. The Other Boleyn Girl did better than I expected. Jumper held up nicely this weekend, as did Step Up 2 the Streets. Fool's Gold is still raking in some cash. No Country for Old Men is still brining in some dough, which is great to see. Penelope did better than I expected. Juno is a monster.

Semi-Pro is a theatrical bomb, regardless of how someone feels about the movie's quality. That is a simple fact. It didn't even have a PTA of $5,000. That is an extremely weak opening for a Will Ferrell comedy playing in over 3,100 theaters on a weekend with very little competition. Blame the rating or the atrocious reviews or the lame advertising. Or all three. Either way, it's a very poor opening. Very strong showing for The Other Boleyn Girl. Better than expected opening number and a PTA near $7,000.

Will Ferrell movies are expected to do $100m+ and just his asking price is $20m. So yes, even with a small-ish budget, given all the promotion and advertising - this is a bomb.

It's a shame Semi-Pro didn't do better. Such a great and hilarious comedy. And it didn't necessarily bomb. It will end up with about $16 million this weekend and finish with about $35-45 million overall. From what I hear its production budget is not that high at all, and not to mention this will make a killing on DVD. It may a bomb in the sense that it isn't going to do as well as Ferrell's other films, but it will certainly be a success financially. The R rating definitely didn't help it, as the majority of Ferrell films are PG-13. I just wish adults could realize that this is a truly great adult comedy, that doesn't rely on kiddie humor to get laughs, it relies on hilarious adult jokes that actually work throughout the whole film.

Damn, extremely low numbers for Semi-Pro. Like a lot of critics, it looks like audiences are getting tired of Ferrell's ego-driven sports roles. And the R rating looks like it hurt the film too.

Vantage Point did alright. I'm glad to see Oscar nominees are doing well, with There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men finally getting some dough. Not surprised Jumper dropped, but it still garnered a second place finish (tie).

Well, Vantage Point did almost exactly as I predicted. Jumper dropped big. The Spiderwick Chronicles held up nicely. Step Up 2 dropped. Fool's Gold should end up finishing with around $70 million. Definitely, Maybe is not doing very well. Be Kind Rewind had a decent opening and the second highest PTA in the top 10. Juno is still chugging along. Roscoe Jenkins isn't doing very well. There Will Be Blood is still doing well and will finish with close to $50 million. The Bucket List may make nearly $100 million by the end of its run. No Country for Old Men is closing in on the $70 million mark. Witless Protection- $2.2 million Charlie Bartlett- $2 million Hopefully Larry the Cable Guy is done. Shame that Charlie Bartlett didn't do better.

Vantage Point did pretty much what i expected, i knew it would be less than 30 million like some people thought it might be able to pull off, ill go around 23 mill when its all said and done. bad movie though, damn. Witless Protection is basically an embarrassment to film, no one should be seeing that. i checked on alvin and the chipmunks the other day and i too was outrageously surprised that it made that much. i never checked it out, because my parents, who like just about everything, said it was the worst movie they saw all year, and they didnt even smile once, so i just avoided it. it was just good timing, good marketing, and a lot of kids wanting to see it i guess.

No surprises; Vantage Point being on top (though I heard the movie kinda sucked) and all of last week's movies dropping big time. I'm not surprised that Alvin and the Chipmunks did that well; my sister took her three year old son to see it and he LOVED it!!! I'm guessing most of that demographic did and that's where the money's coming from. I wouldn't be surprised to see a sequel within the next year or two. Here's hoping it is Larry the Cable Guy's last starring role.

Before I give my two cents on Friday's numbers, I'd like to say that Alvin and the Chipmunks actually wasn't THAT bad. It was a great time when my family came down at X-Mas and we all saw it. And also, it definitely wasn't nearly as "ghettoized" as it was marketed to be, just a couple of references at most. Now, Friday's numbers: Vantage Point did pretty well and will make around the $25 million that I predicted. Jumper dropped like a fucking rock. Step Up 2 will drop 50%+. The Spiderwick Chronicles will have a small drop this weekend. Fool's Gold is still dragging in some cash. Definitely, Maybe did not do that well at all. Be Kind Rewind put up some decent numbers, and should have a decent PTA, although it probably would have done decently in a wide release. Charlie Bartlett didn't do so hot at all. Hopefully this is the end of Larry the Cable Guy. The Signal didn't do very well either, which is a shame because it is getting very good reviews and looks very good.

I was looking through the box office receipts the other day, and I saw that ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS has made over $200 million in North America and well over $300 million worldwide. How the fuck? The classic cartoon, which I love and adore, has been ghettoized. Now I'm engaged and when I'm married and have kids, our kids will see good animated films. Not ones that trash the original product.

Pretty boring weekend, as Oscar weekend usually is. Vantage Point will end up with $21-$22 million when all is said and done. Pretty much what the "experts" were expecting, though a little less than what some predicted. Will this be the last theatrical Larry the Cable Guy movie?

We'll see what kind of legs Spiderwick and Jumper have. Both were quite expensive to make. I think Definitely, Maybe's opening is a disappointment. It was the only new straight-up romantic movie out there. I think it was marketed poorly. The TV spots were horrible and made it look bad, but most of the reviews were very positive.

Spiderwick Chronicles will stay in for awhile i think. the weekend might have been a little low, but i bet it holds on longer than Step 2. Step 2 will have a big drop next weekend, but Spiderwick will still hold on, like a lot of childrens movies sometimes do. it will be interesting to see where Jumper drops, because mostly everyone i know hated it, a lot of people are talking bad about it.

Considering Jumper's budget, it didn't do so hot. It did decent numbers, but for what it's worth, it didn't so very well and it will probably drop like a rock in the weeks to come. YES! Step Up 2 the Streets didn't hit the $20 million mark! On the shitty side, there will undoubtedly be a sequel next year, Step Up 3 Times and Probably a Fourth If This One Attracts as Many Idiots as the Last Two (that's my title prediction) , no offense if you saw and liked it. The Spiderwick Chronicles nearly beat Step Up 2, but has a long way to go to make back its budget. Fool's Gold dropped very small, as did Roscoe Jenkins. Definitely, Maybe didn't do so hot. Juno is still raking in some money, as are The Bucket List, Hannah Montana and 27 Dresses. Nice to see There Will Be Blood hitting the $30 million mark, and it will probably end up with $40+ million at least.
