sleekproductions posted this review When I first saw this film back in May of 2002, I was extremely under whelmed. I read it as an average action film, that did nothing more than show off some decent special effects. Now, reflecting on those thoughts almost a year later, I can fully realize how truly wrong I was. Spider-Man, to say the least, is a great achievement of a film. They present a character, Peter Parker, and show all sides of him. This is a super-hero, yes, but it is an emotionally flawed one. And the filmmakers show that. In our modern day world of film, this is an odd thing, and a thing that is greatly appreciated. There is also a strong love aspect to this film. Peter Parker is in love with the gorgeous Kirsten Dunst (who delivers a super performance), and yet Kirsten's character, Mary Jane Watson, is in love with the mysterious Spider-Man. Little does she know that Spider-Man is her old friend Peter. This is a beautiful love story. Just looking at the picture above sends chills down my back. T...

If you remember, there was actually a Spider-Man comic book before the film. That's probably why movies35 has a SM av, and why he was so let down by the flick.

I loved this movie. I thought the comic books were uninteresting but the movie was fascinating and developed its characters. One of my favourite 2002 movies. 10/10 movies35, why do you hate it? And if you hate it as much as you said, why is your avatar of Spider-Man's eye??

This will probably join The Star Wars Trilogy, Casablanca, The Shawshank Redemption, and Pulp Fiction as being one of the most overrated films of all time. First off, Tobey Maguire just didn't pull off Peter Parker. I'm sorry, but I didn't buy him at all. Sam Raimi's spectacular directing chops were put to waste by a slew of FX men who seemed to be using the Paint program in Windows 95. And, actually, the credits WERE the best part, with the score really highlighting the most exciting part of the film for me, which was seeing that Sam Raimi directed it. The two most disgusting scenes were as follows: A) Kirsten Dunst is apprehended by men looking to rape her. Brave Spider-Man comes in to save the day. Cue an upside down makeout with Dunst's shirt soaking through so you can see her breasts. Hmm, let's look at the ugliest side of sex, then immediately glorify it once Spider-Man shows up. B) Spider-Man lands on a flagpole and poses as the American Flag ripples in the background. Jingo Bells, Jingo Bells, Jingo ...

Spider-Man is the second best film of 2002. It is an incredible adventure film that has the one big thing many comic book adventures lack: character development. We actually get to know the characters. And that is an amazing thing. Tobey Maguire plays Peter Parker, a nerdy high school student who gets bitten by a new species, created through genetics, and gains the many powers of a "super spider". Maguire is one of my favorite young actors. He is always likable, charming, and measured. Willem Dafoe hams it up and chews scenery like beef jerky as Norman Osborne/The Green Goblin. He is brilliant. Kirsten Dunst is good as Mary Jane and manages to transcend the typical "love interest" cliche. I've been a huge fan of these characters since I was 8 or 9 and to see them so wonderfully realized on screen is a dream come true. 10/10

Well I'm glad to see you justified all your criticisms... Here is my review. SPIDER-MAN Dir: Sam Raimi Stars: Tobey Maguire, Willem Dafoe, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Rosemary Harris, JK Simmons Review: Spider-Man; The Movie has a long and troubled history. The first serious attempts to make the film came in the mid 90’s when James Cameron wrote a (terrible) scriptment. Cameron’s version was rumoured to be featuring Charlie Sheen as Peter Parker and Arnie as Doctor Octopus. With hindsight it is fortunate this never got off the ground. What does all this have to do with Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man? More than you’d think; one key concept has been retained, but to that later. Despite always looking forward to the end result the fans of the comic have always had worries about Spider-Man. They wanted to see it done right. Certain things, particularly the changes to the origin story and the “organic” web shooters (left over from Cameron’s work), were extremely controversial. The news is good, but for a few, very minor...

Spider-Man was a solid movie. At times it was cliched, and over done. But it's a really enjoyable movie. It isn't as good the second time around, though. But I still enjoyed it. A solid movie overall. 8/10

This was an ok movie, It was a little stupid and some of CGI looked fake, but overall It was nice and enterteining. The chemistry between Dunst and Maguire was very real and belivable. A good super hero flick. 7/10

Ok I have to say I completely disagree with this review. First off, the art of translating a comic to film isn't exactly an easy one. ou have to appeal to both die hard core fans of the character and newcomers who don't read comics. Spiderman is probably the most credible contender for best super hero movie of all time. David Koepp wrote a freakin awesome adaption of the comics main storyline an ideas. My only qualm is the abscense of Gwen Stacy. As for your problem with casting, Tobey Maguire is probably as good as you can get. He IS the best "teen" actor of his generation, and if it wasn't going to be him heres a list of other canidates that were considered: Freddy Prinze Jr. Jim Carrey Leo DiCaprio I think I rest my case. And as for your whole "DIE SAM RAIMI DIE" atitude I say: Don't make me have to use my boomstick buddy, because I know I won't miss(thems fightin words ) Raimi is my favorite director and I have VERY little patience for his naysayers. He can inject more style into his ...

I loved Spider-Man, it was a decent comic book movie. DaFoe was brilliant as the evil Green Goblin and Tobey was a excellent cast choice for Spider-Man IMO, he looked soo much like the troubled teen Parker with those glasses on (or off) pulled the job off nicely. It also had Bruce Campbell in it

As for the movie, I really wanted to hate it. I wanted to say, "See, this was another "blockbuster" that went to crap.", but i couldnt. I was drawn to the characters. I cared about Peter Parker, (and wanted to punch him in the face at the end!!!). Quote: When you read Spiderman comics you will notice that almost 70% of the speech ballons consists of his thoughts and ideas, he's the only superhero that actually thinks! Well, in the movies, it's kinda hard to make people understand thought. therefore dialog is required where ppl in life would be thinking.

What the hell are you people on? I loved this movie, this was the Spider-Man I always wanted to see. I loved that they didn't hold back on the emotion. I loved that it was a movie about being Peter Parker, not about being Spider-Man. I even loved the crappy CGI because it looked like comic book art. I don't know about you guys, but this was a dream come true for me, the movie I had waited ten years to see and worth every minute.

Theres enough blood being spilt anyway. And I don't mean just in the film.

I disagree. I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was well worth the money I paid, though the popcorn was quite expensive. I generally like the comic-strip look in movies, and this was no exception. It was a FUN mvoie, I thought the directing was perfect (I used to watch the Saturday morning cartoon, though I don't read comic books themselves, I think any Spiderman fan should be happy that this WASN'T a load of tripe. I think everyone involved did a good job of what they did, from Raimi to Maguire to Willem Dafoe. This, in my opinion was one of the better superhero movies I've seen. I found myself caring about Parker while watching this movie, and Bruce Wayne is the only other comic strip guy I've really rooted for. Now, with Blade, The Shadow (totally underrated movie), Dick Tracey (totally unappreciated movie), you just wanna see some visual spectaculars, or maybe some arse getting kicked, but I found the story to be, well, involving. Guilty as charged, sir.

Who ever directed and wrote this movie should die!!!! I expected so much in this movie, that's why I bought a DVD copy. Okay I understand that they changed the story a little bit, but they actually changed the good parts (where the hell is Gwen Stacey?!). I never read any comic books other than Spiderman (I never even knew who daredevil is until his upcoming movie trailer was shown in cinemas). Spiderman is a kind of superhero that never acts like a "here I come to save the day" superhero (but in this movie, they made him like that!), instead he is a teenage kid not familiar with his own powers and a superhero with financial, emotional and youth problems (which is fortunately shown in the movie), making him more understandable especially to teenagers like us. When you read Spiderman comics you will notice that almost 70% of the speech ballons consists of his thoughts and ideas, he's the only superhero that actually thinks! and I liked him bec. of that, but in this movie, well.... you get the idea. ...
