this movie kicked ass! this was the most gritty, powerful, realistic, emotional, and entertaining movie of 2002. (well actually #2 (Rules of Attraction is #1)) 9/10

8 Mile is pretty much your standard, solidly made triumph over adversity story. It really doesn't chart any new territory, but it's capable of entertaining for a couple of hours, even if you're not a hip-hop fan. Eminem gives a good performance, but Brittany Murphy looked like she was high the whole time and Kim Basinger overacting had me cringing. 7/10

Interesting movie, but not enough exposition showing how great Rabbit is supposed to be. His friends keep talking about how awesome he is...but I didnt get that in the end with the rap battle....nothing there blew me away...impressed, yes..but the movie took too long to get there...and then for what it showed as far as Rabbits talent, wasnt enough. Good direction and acting (especially by Eminem)..the writing needed to be stronger though. Worth a watch. 7.5/10

I just saw this flick at the movies and it was pretty disappointing. I'm such a big fan of Eminem and though I liked the mvoie I suppose I just expected it to be better. Marshall himself is an astonishing performer, he really belts it out her and will stop at nothing to perfect his performance. Kim Basinger was quite annoying and over-the-top, whereas Mekhi Phifer was great and pretty much unrecognisable in a fat suit and braids. The movie had some great moments (the sex scene, the beating-up scene and the gory I-shot-myself-scene) but a lot of the movie is uninteresting. One thing that really kept 8 Mile on its feet is the rapping. It rocks! It totally bewilders me how all these really talented people can remember this shit and even on occassion make it up on the spot. I disliked the ending (left far too many doors open) but I heard a theory there will be a sequel, and I hope there will. Overall - a well-made and interesting film, with great writing, directing and a brilliant performance from one of the mos...

Only reason you preppy chumps bothered watching 8 mile was because 1. Eminem was in it. 2 Because Eminem is white. I think this is the case because none of you know the impact this movie has on hip hop or anything of the sort u guys are talkin' about plots and crap. There aren't too many twists and turns you could make with a movie like this. Its about battling the "essence" of hip hop. Eminem did an outstanding job and this is a great movie to own. 9.5/10

7/10 is what i would give it. the begining is awesome, the middle is kind of boring, and the final battle is awesome. cheddar bob is awesome, but kim basinger was VERY VERY miscast. what a terrible performance!!!!!!...other than that, great movie.

8 MILE - 5/10 (C-) Ugh! This was pretty disappointing and not very interesting. I was bored throughout pretty much all of it and couldn't wait for it to be over. I'm really glad I didn't see this in theaters afterall. It was so lame. I swear, if I hear anyone I know rave about this movie I'll have them commited.

8 Mile ***1/2 (out of ****) 8.0 out of 10 Grade: A- Directed by Curtis Hanson Starring: Eminem, Brittany Murphy, Mekhi Phifer, Kim Basinger, Taryn Manning 8 Mile is a gritty and inspiring look at a brilliant young rap artist who must overcome his stage fright if he wants to succeed. The movie ends with with a small victory in a rap "war" contest not with him making some kind of record deal or making it in the industry. The movie is very well directed as Curtis Hanson really captures the time and place vividly. He has also coerced a strong debute performance from Eminem. Some people have said that he's just playing himself but even if that's true he still would have stunk if he didn't have the talent. Besides Eminem the other really good performance in the movie is given by Mekhi Phifer as a friend and mentor of Rabbits. Kim Basinger is ok. Brittany Murphy is saddled with a pretty thankless role though. And Taryn Manning is wasted given very little screen time. The best part of the movie is rap war ...

Curtis Hanson brings to “8 Mile” his ingenuity and expertise, fresh off the critical successes of the “very hush, hush” L.A. Confidential, and well-acted Wonder Boys. He’s proven he has the capabilities to make good films, so why would "8 Mile" be any different? The problem with his new film isn’t his direction at all; I actually think that’s the best part of "8 Mile." The problem stems into another territory and has more to do with the characters and the story, which seem better suited for an ABC TV movie of the week. "8 Mile" is the type of film that’s been made a hundred times—about the brilliant loser who can’t get his act together that would be “Rabbit,” played by Eminem….and anyone should be able to predict the rest. The story fans out Rocky-style, with profanity to spare. The most interesting aspect of the predictable storyline is the setting in Detroit, following the life of a rising Rap artist. But where are the characters? I see em’, but I don’t really care what they e...

8 Mile is a well made, well acted story of an underdog overcoming the odds and his fears to do what he loves to do. Eminem stars as Jimmy "Bunny Rabbit" A young white kid from the poor side of Detroit...the other side of 8 Mile. Working from job to job and living with his white trash trailor mom played by Kim Basinger and his younger sister Lilly. Much has been made about Eminem's big screen debut and playing a part he is all too familiar with, just a vehicle to sell soundtracks and his album maybe... I am not a fan of Eminem or his music in general, but enjoyed him in this film...because he is convincing and likeable and carries the film. Yes he is supported by other fine actors such as Basinger, Brittany Murphy as Eminem's new girl and Mekhi Phifer as his friend and true believer of his rapping skills...but it is all Eminem's show an he does a very admirable job. Yes the story is pretty familiar of an outsider, underdog from the other side who struggles and succeeds in a prejudice and harsh envir...
