PANIC ROOM is one of the best suspence films in recent memory. David Fincher did a great job with this one compared to the much liked FIGHT CLUB(WHICH I did not enjoy). PANIC ROOM was part Hitchcock, part Fincher. I think (for me) that Fincher pulled back from the excessive violence that his earlier films wallowed in, and relied more on the story and the strength of the actors. Jodie Foster is my favorite actress. She's great in thrillers. Dwight Yokem is wonderfully type cast as one of the villans. 9 out of 10.

Amazing movie what else can I say ? it's by far the best thriller that from the beginning to end kept me interested. The whole movie is about 10 people big and is all in 1 place which gave us the effect of the character's being in a place you already well know and that you know where is who while the people in the movie don't I liked the Cat and mouse part of the movie, it was well described of how both enemies exchanged positions. The methane scene was intense except that normally methane weight's more than air and normally it would be glued to the floor whereas in the movie it was in the air. I love Fincher's way of filming scenes like for example the long shot from the front door that goes through the kitchen to the bac door where we find Forest Whitaker climbing up to the second floor , then to the roof and finally in, and all that in 1 shot, nice shit. However this movie didn't have any Fincher twist at the end but we still go the "figure out what happens in the end yourself" after the credits...

What is another word for amazing (2 words). . . . How about try P-A-N-I-C R-O-O-M! Throughout this entire film my eyes were glued to the screen. This movie is intense!!! Fincher did a superb job with this picture **gives standing ovation** ok . . . .I had to pry my jaw off of the floor more than once because of the action, and intense moments and just the whole film. It was brilliant! 9/10

i found in this, i knew within the first 20 minutes, the whole unfolding of this story...too much info was given; not enough to guess at....as precise as the illusion of the thieves intent was. i went on automatic after the first half hour and just sort of waited for the ending; to say i knew it would happen like that good movie, if life has not dealt you enough natural struggle; or if you envy the very rich; you might like to see; some shit go on with them other than that; i was disappointed, but in a way familiar to me so all in all; just another hollywood thriller with a kid with breathing problems; some ethnic mix of bad dudes squaring up with the gnp of their society and a damsel in distress; who proves to be the most intelligent aspect; some overture of a pro-woman getting out of the victim ized state...boy i share no need for this fantasy ...of a success woman needing to prove herself; i am not all that enthralled with the small woman and all the big bad boys she has to fight off to find herself..it t...

fincher and koepp work very well together as director and writer-producer see it as a highly political statement on american eliteism and the violence and pathos waiting for a chance to erupt in the working class mind also the horror of non-connectedness that pure greed contains a small sketch of what goes on in a big way, around the world....all the time

Leave it to director David Fincher to direct yet another amazing movie. Panic Room is an intense, psychological thriller that'll keep you glued to your seat and you won't be able to turn away till the end. Plot: A mother and her rebellious daughter move into an old brownstone house, where the previous owner had built a panic room on the upstairs level, so that if there was ever a home invasion, the tenant would just have to lock him/herself in the room and wait. And wouldn't you know it, the day they move in; three burglars break into the house. The mother and daughter lock themselves in the panic room, but the only problem is that whatever the burglars are looking for is in there with them. Chaos insues. Jodie Foster does a great job as the mother who just won't give up. Who'll do anything to get those three fucks out of her house. Her character is tough as nails when she's backed into a corner, while at the same time very motherly towards her daughter. The three burglars are played by Jared Leto, who basic...

Panic Room Panic Room is by all means one of my fabourite movies of 2002. Definitely the best thriller. I was really looking forward to this and I was really satisfied with it. Many thought it was boring, but I didn't. The suspense was awesome and this was definitely the most suspenseful movie of the year (along with The Ring). The camera angles were also great too - I loved the zooming through the pot handle and the keyhole. Jodie Foster was great and so was newcomer Kristen Stewart. This movie gets a fantastic 9/10.

Panic Room 7/10 If anyone would ever ask me about the most fascinating and interesting director in the world, I’d never think twice before naming David Fincher. Even if he keeps making bad movies till the end of time, he has enough great cinematic experiences to make it up for any bad step he would take in years to come. His latest effort, Panic Room, will not rank among his best. It is not as thoughtful and intriguing as Fight Club and it is not as clever and thrilling as SE7EN. Still, Panic Room is a proof that David Fincher is a master in his work and that when he wants to make an average thriller it would absolutely turn out to be the most interesting no-brainer out there. The great Jodie Foster plays Meg Altman, a newly divorced woman moving with her only daughter Sarah (the very young and talented Kristen Stewart) into a new mansion in New York. This house is big, elegant and has a virtue that cannot be seen in your average house; a place called the panic room. This room is a hidden chamber built as im...

I am SO PROUD to be in the MINORITY that HATE this film. Starting with a 10/10, and deducting 1 point for each INANE thing in this film. (In no particular order) -1: For Jodie taking the time to spread ALL that glass, and to then run OVER IT barefoot (all that time to break and spread glass but not throw on some shoes?) 9/10 -1: Idiot husband DOES call police after Jodie phones him... but then he shows up WITHOUT them? Of course he has to... there needs to be a beating thrown in for good measure. 8/10 -1: Bottome line.. bad guys had daughter IN PANIC ROOM... REGARDLESS of Foster having the gun! "We have your daughter, and the little bitch WILL DIE w/o her injection if you dont open the door and give us back the FUCKING gun BITCH"... and if she DOES die and you dont open this door, we'll fucking SODOMIZE her DEAD BODY! I kinda think that door would have opened dont you? (THAT's the REAL WORLD.) 7/10 -1: Dwight gets WHACKED in the head with a fricken AXE... goes OVER a railing falling to the floor be...

I strongly disagree with you guys. I thought Panic Room was horrible, mainly because it's an exercise purely in style. To me, there was no emotion in the entire film, and Fincher just made it to perfect some camera moves for MI3. And besides, he kills off the coolest character 45 minutes in. S P O I L E R S And the ending is just ridiculous. Forest Whitaker's character saves the little girl's life, then saves Jodie Foster's life, and is then stealing money that isn't their's to support his family, and they let the cops take him away? This is cold and heartless, and removed any sympathy I had for those two characters.

Panic Room Panic Room is one of the best thrillers since Se7en. Could it be a coinsidence both films are from the same director. David Fincher is a camera-genius. The way he uses small things, like Puck said, is fantastic. The key-hole, the plaster, shots going through the walls. It's all good! This movie is riveted down by fantastic performances from the whole cast. All of 'em! Especially Forest Whitaker and Jodie Foster. They did an outstanding job playing this big cat-and-mouse game. And I love the way his character ends up. All in all, Panic Room is one of the best movies in the last two or three years. And one of the five best this year. David Fincher delivers Oscar calibur direction. And the whole cast delivered great performances. Maniac: 8.5

taken directly from my website at moviereviews.cjb.net David Fincher's Panic Room begins with an uber-cool opening credit sequence with the credits being superimposed onto buildings. They even have reflections and shadows. In this stylized thriller, the rest of the movie is also slick. Meg Altman (Jodie Foster) is a recent divorcee who is looking for a new house with her daughter Sarah (Kristen Stewart). They find a giant house, complete with "panic room". What is a panic room, you ask? It is a room engulfed in steel where you can hide and there is not way you can be gotten to. Since this is a movie, theives have to come on the first night that Meg and Sarah are in. And, of course, what they are looking for is in the panic room. Panic Room cannot be mistaken for an arthouse movie, or anything of the type. It is a perfect example of a Hollywood movie. Bumbling crooks, main female characters who look weak but inside are strong, teens who are the opposite. In fact, we don't even know that Sarah has di...

Panic Room - 4/10 HUH??? I beg your pardon? What the hell were you people smoking? We couldn't have possibly seen the same movie. I remember a movie that could almost pass as mediocre, but definately not one that could be titled "best pic of the year" or anything in that realm. Maybe my way of thinking is a little off, so here's what I saw..... Frog's Interpretation Ok, we have an opening scene about Foster purchasing a (huge) house and being explained everything in great detail except for one room, called the "Panic Room", which there was an indistinct warning given about it.... hmmm.... time passes and before we know it, we have some baddies chasing huge wads of money located in this room. And for the remainder of this film, we have an all-out attack on the house, war amoung goodies and baddies, cameras everywhere watching everyone, lots and lots of running, and .... umm.... lather, rinse, repeat over and over until everyone's in custody or dead... First off, I don't recall any scene wh...

Whooo, boy, what a great movie! Definitely one of my favorite thrillers now. David Fincher is a genious! The camera angles were amazing, and he put such a great feel into this movie, and the characters were excellently written and performed. Though the bad guys personas were predictable (the crazed leader, the soft-spot boy, and the mysterious guy), they all were quite entertaining. Jodie Foster did excellent, and I liked her better here than I usually like her in other movies. The twists and turns in the plot I think really kept things going, and kept the excitement entirely up. Though some parts were predictable, I was mostly quite shocked by a lot of the twists. Also, mabye there should have been more establishing scenes before all the action/thrill scenes immediately started up. But overall, just a great exciting thriller. Lotsa fun throughout! My Rating: 7.5/10

PANIC ROOM "It's called a Panic Room" REVIEW
Let me start off by saying, David Fincher is the king of all directors. You wanna see the camera zooming through a kitchen, through a keyhole, cracks in the wall, through floorboards? Look no further. I loved the setting too. The house added a creepy feel to the film. Now I'll mention the actors. Jodie Foster was outstanding as usual, I really don't understand why people don't like her. She belongs in the thriller genre, however. She's just so good at looking and acting scared. Kirsten Stuart also played a good part as the daughter, she didn't bug me or anything. Jared Leto played one of the burglars, Juniour, who was the guy in charge of everything...well he though he was. Forest Whitaker was my favourite because you liked him even though he was a baddie. He didn't want to hurt anyone, just get the money and split. Dwight Yoakham who played Raoul was the real badass out of the three. He was prepared to kill anyone that pissed him off or got in his w...

When I first saw the previews for this movie, I rolled my eyes and let out a groan. I thought this movie would be lame with a capital "L." So, I waited until Panic Room came to the cheap theaters and I saw it for a mere 75 cents. Man, I would have gladly paid full ticket price for this movie had I known how good it was. The camera work was brilliant. I loved the shot through the coffee pot handle. The acting from all of the main characters was superb. (I thought Jodie Foster had a son in the movie, until I realized that the son was actually a girl). I'm not a fan of Forrest Whitaker, but I really liked the role he played in this movie. I had an emotional attachment (either good or bad) to each of the main characters. That's something that a lot of the movies lately fail to achieve. The plot needed a little work, but overall, I say....9/10.

I had lots of time to think about Panic Room after i saw it yesterday. Here's what i thought: David Fincher wanted to do something different with this movie. He made the philosophical-like Fight Club which nearly everyone loved (including me! ) and now i believe he wanted to a do a smaller movie more for himself i believe. And Panic Room is definately smaller. five characters that drive the film, very simple plot and all based in one house and around one room. But i think that what he worked with he did an excellent job. He made the camera move around the house with such grace and excellence that i was really amazed. Some zooms were (like the lamp) unecessary to the story but were done to add to the on going effect and style which i have no problem with. Some scenes were very tense especially the cell-phone scene on which i was literally telling Meg to be quick and shit. I was very absorbed into the movie which is a very very good thing. All the characters were very good. Jared Leto's Junior was by far the b...

Actually, I have to agree with "beckman 1984". I was disappointed.
I mean, it was a good film, but at the end of the day, after Seven and Fight Club, I did expect more.
I did find the wit and humour inappropriate at first, but it did end up well-placed in my opinion.
Also, it was actually a great thriller, very claustrophoibically-done, but the ending is what 'disappointed' me, since at the end of the day, when I left I felt like although it had been a fun two hours, it was pointless. There was no moral (apart from 'stealing is bad') there was no twist at the end, or even the remaining bad guy being allowed to escape or getting shot; the dramatic music as the camera zoomed into Jodie Fosters face seemed strange as nothing happened, the end scene on the bench was... unnecessary, her daughter looked like a boy and was 'smarter' than Foster, but... I did like the way Fincher introduced elements of each character, and then built them up, rather than telling us everything about the character...

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn! What a movie! Intense, well-acted, good music....and oh god, the directing! I've said it a million times before.......FINCHER...........KICKS........ASS!!! !!!!! And the screenplay by David Koepp balanced the humor and the suspense perfectly. Jodi Foster is in top form here too. "Panic Room" is an absolutely stunning achievment in suspense, and the best I've seen since "Seven." 9/10

Spoilers Ahead Four magic words; David Fincher, Jodie Foster. Those four words are the reason I've been excited about Panic Room for a very long time. This film had potential by the boatload, one of the very best directors of his generation, an actress who, in 30 years has never (to my knowledge) given a bad performance, could it possibly live up to this potential?
Fortunately the answer to that question is a resounding YES. Panic Room is not the best film David Fincher has made, that is and will I'm sure remain, Se7en, it is however an excellent film in every respect. To begin with Fincher's direction is flawless, he understands not only how to create camera work to take his audience's breath away but how to pace the editing and the overall storyline in order to keep us always on the edge of our seats. It is well known that Fincher is a master of the camera and I was worried that a film set primarily in a single room would confine him, and remove much of this great strength of his work, how wrong I was....

WOW!!!!!
This movie is amazing, i don't think i've felt so tense watching a movie in years.Despite a few minor problems it is easily one of the best movie you could see at the moment.
The main appeal is the simplicity of the plot, house/people/burglars/trapped, there is no major twist,no moment where you ask yourself "whats going on?".

I have to admit that i dont usually react physically to a movie but the whole slow-motion sequence when Jodie gets out of the PR to get her cell phone, had me almost kicking the row in front as i was willing her to run faster once the bad guys knew she was out. This was just one of many tense moments.
I feel David Fincher should be commended on choosing to direct this after Fight Club.A lot of people have suggested it is a let down after that, but i think what could he have done.He made the right choice to go for something a bit more "normal" and leave his "Fight Club 2" as it wer...

Wow, every one seems to really like this film. I love David Fincher's work but I honestly thought this film was lame. Pretty predictable in most parts and not allot really happens in the film to begin with. I expected it to be at least scarry- these robbers were total newbies to crime obviously. It might have been better if they were a bit more professional. The camera work was interesting as usual for Fincher but aside from that I dont see what every one is making the big deal about. Boring! In comparison to fight club this film was a joke. The ending was really what made it below average for me. Forrest is just standing there and they dont indicate what happens one way or the other- why build his character and then just end it that way? 4/10. I wouldn't bother watching it again and that is my true test of a film.

PANIC ROOM So far, Panic Room is my favorite movie I've seen in 2002. I really loved the wonderful camera work and directing which braught us actually through coffee makers, key holes, and down flights and flights of stairs. David Lynch has been on a great roll lately.(Se7en, Fight Club, and now Panic Room) This might just be my favorite movie from him, if not this fight club. And Jodie, wow... mesmerizing, beautiful, brilliant, and captivating. She is without a doubt this years Best Actress in a leading role so far this year. There is maybe one flaw in this film entirely...which I can't find this second so yeah Panic Room! I have a feeling that we will see more of Panic Room around Oscar-Season for possible Acting (Jodie) and defenitly the camera work especially editing and visual effects. And this might just have the best credits in the begining of all time! REPORT CARD Story: 9/10 Acting: 9/10 Directing: 10/10 Camera Work/Special-FX: 10/10 Music: 8/10 overall: 9/10

Well-crafted and stylishly directed, it also boasts star power from Jodie Foster. I suspect chicks will like this movie, because it shows a strong woman outfoxing expect criminals. 7/10.

I found this movie dissapointing. First, I thought it should have stayed with the dark, creepy feeling it started with rather than lighten the load by making the three criminals act like Moe, Larry, and Curly. I found them humorous but inappropriately so on such a dark film. These guys were goof balls instead of compelling figures. Dwight's character was right on, but I found Whitaker's (sp?) character a bit too bleeding heart. I mean that good guy criminal thing has been overdone and was a shallow subplot to me. I also found the camera tricks (flying through objects) obtrusive. When I consciously say to myself "Hey, that was a pretty cool effect" in the middle of a drama then they are trying to hard. I prefer a more subtle approach that doesn't scream look at how cool this is. In fairness to the movie I thought it was extremely well acted and had kept me interested. I mean it's better than most of the mindless crap we are getting feed most of the time but that's not saying much in the end.

Just to add to joblo....Nicole Kidman's voice is the girlfriend on the phone...she did a cameo, as her knee kept her out of the film. But I am SO glad Foster did the role. Riveting. I also want to mention again the terrific opening credits, just as interesting the 2nd time around. I loved the filming, close up shots from vents to concrete wall dust to faces. And the sound was top notch.
A brilliant, enjoyable ride.

What can I say about David Fincher? In one word: Brilliant. In another: Daring. In one more: Inventive. I, too, am also a very big fan of Fincher and the style in which he makes his movies. (Not to mention all the movies hes made are now and will forever be my all-time fav movies) Over the last couple of years, he’s brought us: The 3rd installment of the popular Alien Series, “Alien 3” which in my view was the perfect ending to the “Alien” series, or at least until they made “Alien: Resurrection” The Psychological Thriller called “The Game”, (Which in my view is one of the best ever made, not to mention putting Michael Douglas back on the map.) One of THE MOST scariest and most disturbing movie ever made called “Se7en”, (Which is not only the 8th Scariest movie of all time, but a movie that put the whole world on notice to 3 incredible actors: Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Spacey. Wow! It shows to go ya that simplicity is not always a bad thing. You don't need super-duper visuals to create a great film, and David Fincher proved this yet again with his stylish thriller. I love Jodie Foster, and I believe this is one of her best performances to date. Maybe not Oscar-worthy (or mayBE, you decide), but certainly she nailed it as always. And Kristen Stewart, wow, kudos to HER. For her age, she certainly delivered a strong, focused performance, and I liked it a lot. I had NO idea that was Jared Leto behind those dreads..simply outstanding performance there. I also liked Fincher's wild and zany camera shots, brilliant stuff.

This movie was great, it had a great story and although I could have used a change of scenery it was a hell of a lot better then I thought it was going to be! From what I heard, Fincher doesn't dissappoint, what will his next film be? Anyways, great performances, great storyline, unfortunately i think they could have got a wider audience if they lessened the profanity a little bit and made it a pg 13 rating, but a great movie, and an 8/10!

Panic Room (2002) Rated R for Violence & Language Director: David Fincher Starring Jodie Foster, Forest Whitaker, Dwight Yokam, Jared Leto, & Kristen Stewart. The film's plot focuses on Meg Altman(Jodie Foster) who has recently gone through a divorce with her rich husband. She and her daughter, Sarah(Kristen Stewart) move into a very expensive Brownstone house that includes a "panic room". It's meant for your safety and protection. On their first day, their new home is invaded by three burglars: Junior(Jared Leto), Burnham(Forest Whitaker), & Raoul(Dwight Yokam). They all are looking for something hidden inside the "panic room". David Fincher truly is one of the greatest and most talented directors out there today. With "Panic Room", he really out done himself. It amazes me that Fincher turned such a simple story into such a brilliant movie. As always, Fincher provides the film with a dark and moody feel that is very enjoyable. I must give credit to David Koepp. For ...

Panic Room...7/10 Panic Room is a difficult review for me.Dark and taut, Panic Room is a good film, fueled by it's great performanxce(especially Dwight Yoakom as the "crazed" villan).David Fincher's direction was, yet again, brillant.(I am now convinced he is a genius with camerawork)However, What garnered a lower rating from me was the cliched story and rather empty ending. It could have been a classic, but all it's adds up to be is just another good thriller. My review of Panic Room (I wrote it for my homepage)
Panic Room 9/10 Starring Jodie Foster, Kristen Stewart, Jared Leto, Forrest Whitaker
Directed By: David Fincher A week before this movie came out, I was unconvinced that it would be a stand out film. Although the movie was directed by David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club, Alien 3), I was convinced that the concept of a “panic room” was an ill-conceived idea. As I saw the glowing reviews from critics, both amateur and professional, it brought forth a glimmer of optimism; however, regardless of that, I still entered the film with little-to-no expectations. What was the reason for my low expectations? I was beginning to feel that the thriller and horror genre was beginning to become stale and formulaic. There is either the elusive “bad guy” who has superhuman strength (Cape Fear, Joy Ride, I Know What You Did Last Summer) or there exists a chain of coincidental events that yields unbelievable twists in the favor of the protagonist (What Lies Beneath, Trai...

The thing that made this movie for me was all the camera shots and where the characters were in relation to one another. Like Jodie Foster and her character's daughter were riding up the elevator while Jared Leto was trying to kick it open - both seen from the side in the same shot. Very cool.
Jodie Foster is hot; everytime I see her in a movie, I am (greatfully) reminded of this fact. I found her attractive with and without the glasses that I usually see Tina Fey wearing on SNL. Very nice.
The three burglars (Jared Leto, Forrest Whitaker, Dwight Yoakum) started out kind of like the two in Home Alone - bumbling, arguing idiots. It brought some humor to the beginning of the movie. Very funny.
But the movie is mostly suspenseful - either when the three (when they're not arguing with each other) are chasing down Jodie, or towards the end when they turn on each other. I mention again the ca...

Panic Room (2002) Rating: 9/10 Intense thrillers don't get much better than this. This was a great thriller! There were a few scenes where I felt myself tense up. The acting is very good. Jodie Foster has never been better. Her tomboy daughter, played by Kristen Stewart, was good as well. Dwight Yoakam, of all people, was actually very convincing as the "baddest" robber of the three. David Fincher takes a relatively simple story line (three burglars break into a large house to find a hidden stash of cash while the two inhabitants are inside) and weaves this brilliant thriller into a wonderful thrill ride. Excellent camerawork, love how Fincher takes the camera into the smallest of places or real tight up against something. Even though I wasn't too crazy about Howard Shore's Oscar winning score for The Fellowship of the Ring, I must say that his score here is spot on! See this movie, you won't be disappointed.

Panic Room 9/10... Panic Room is another intense and taut thriller from visual stylist David Fincher that kept me riveted throughout. What is amazing he does it with a pretty simple premise...of a mother and her daughter caught in The Panic Room of their newly purchased brownstone manhattan apartment, while 3 robbers break in and want something. once again Fincher moves his camera with great style and originality especially how deep the camera can move into the smallest of spaces...like into a keyhole or against a shaking wall so you can see the minute bits of plaster crumble. but this film is not all about Fincher's style...it is an intense and gripping chess-game with two very smart players...Jodie Foster is great as usual as a determined mother not about to give in...and Forest Whitaker is also good as a kind hearted robber who is fueled by need for what is in the panic room. Krsiten Stewart is also good as Foster's daughter and your right joblo...she is all boy!! Jared Leto and Dwight Yoakam are also ver...

I totally agree with you on this one Joblo, this movie rocked! It was suspenseful, exciting, and most of all entertaining. Jodie Foster delivers one of her best performances ever, and it is amazing how much her daughter actually looks like her (good casting). The best movie of the year so far. 8/10
