i could tell what was gonig on in the action but personally i think they flipped around a bit too much i mean does he really have to do a forward flip EVERY time he fires a missile? That and that fact that you could see the Chevy bowtie within 5 seconds of a 20 second transformation (times are estimate ) kind of annoyed me too but not as much as Blade 3 was a walking add for Apple

Transformers sucked for a few reaons: a) too much focus on the uninteresting human characters, not enough interaction and screentime for the autobots, who are by far the best thing about the movie b) horrible, sometimes even cringe-inducingly bad and dopey dialogue with poor Shai Lebouf getting the brunt of it (though John Turturro and Anhony Anderson suffer greatly as well) c) incomprehensible action in which I couldn't tell what the hell was going on

After running this one through the big computer, I just can't agree with your rant FatSakHead. My basis just being that Transformers and Shoot Em Up are intended for two totally different audiences. I'd rather hear a review of Shoot Em Up instead of unrelated ramblings about THE BEST FUCKING MOVIE OF LAST SUMMER!!!! No for real. The Michael Bay slow motion was off the hook in that one. Yeah, it was pretty dumb, but I couldn't help but to dig the special effects. What I wanted was more TF and less of a John Cusack movie. The movie had some serious thematic issues, and for that I shit on it. However, I didn't have the disorientation problem you had with the fight scenes. What I did slight was again, more TF, because I'd of liked to have seen more interplay between the Deceptacons and Autobots. I can get why you wouldn't dig this movie, but I don't know if I get why you'd do it at the sake of Shoot 'Em Up.

I've never seen Transformers, and likely never will, since it doesn't interest me one way or another. I did see Shoot 'Em Up awhile ago, and thought it was decent for a time waster. No plot was really needed, and I've already forgotten the plot anyhow, aside from a group of guys trying to kill a baby. The part where Clive Owen crashed into the van and dives into the back of it, killing that whole group of mercernaries (or whatever they were) was awesome, and even more priceless is what happens afterwards, when Paul Giamatti runs over the "baby." Just for the record, Live Free Or Die Hard destroys any and all contestants put down here thus far for "best action movie of the decade." That includes Transformers, Shoot 'Em Up, The Bourne Ultimatum, Spider-Man 3, etc, etc.

Michael Bay movies are like a beautiful stripper... Wonderful to look at, but you never quite get a good enough look before the goods are taken away. His overediting and frantic camera just give a GLIMPSE and SENSE of what is going on without actually giving the eyes and brain a chance to PROCESS it before the next cock tease shot flashes before your eyes. What you end up with it a hunger for something but have it taken away before you can actually get a taste of it... It's frustrating as hell. Some of the shots and effects in Transformers were very cool indeed, but they were delivered for tease and shove-it-down-your-throat consumption, then torn back out before you even know what you're supposed to be seeing. I love the look of Bay's films, I can even put up with the stories and ideas, but this editing has to stop... BTW: Did you know Mr Bay is currently airing in australia in an ad for one of our major banks? He plays himself pitching an advertising idea to the bewildered bank executives... Showing them a...

Monica Bellucci's hotness is overrated. I ain't saying she's not hot, but she's not even close to be the hottest woman alive and I agree with the poster who said Megan Fox is hotter.

She'll be known in three years as a B-Grade Angelina Jolie-wannabe and the chick who fucked the blonde kid from 7th Heaven. Just because she can pop open the hood of a car and bend over does not mean she is now the hottest girl in the entire planet. It just means that she has 0 acting ability. That being said, I enjoyed both Transformers and Shoot 'Em Up. One had giant robots and the other had lots and lots of shoot-outs. Anyone arguing over which one is better needs to chill out and realize that they were both popcorn flicks for the sheer purpose of entertainment above other things. Bourne Ultimatum was the best summer flick, though. Case closed.

What's funny to me is that Transformers is pretty much your typical Michael Bay movie yet for some reason critics weren't nearly as harsh on it than on Bay's other movies even though Armageddon is WAY more fun IMO. And The Island is also WAY better IMO.

Transformers was probably the best movie of the summer, while Shoot Em Up was a huge piece of shit that didn't make sense half the time. It's also the first time I've hated Paul Giamatti in a role, which automatically makes this movie a terrible waste of time.

Jesus, what a bunch of fucking whiners, don't you guys ever like anything? I swear, 5 out of 6 threads around here nowadays are nothing but bitch threads, jesus, lighten up and try actually enjoying a film for what it is instead of trying to be an armchair critic, there are enough of those untrained idiots already. That said, Transformers wasn't the best picture of the year, but I enjoyed it and that's all I care about. Personally, what I consider the best picture of the year is the one I enjoyed watching the most and that happened to be Stardust and while it may not have been the most lauded film of 2007, it was certainly the one I most thought was worth my 10 bucks and end the end that was what mattered most. As far as Shoot Em Up goes, I don't feel the need to watch another film starring Clive Owen with a gun, that shit is old and Megan Fox is better looking. Besides, if you're under 30, then you aren't old enough for Transformers to really mean anything anyways, it stopped being Transformers after the fi...

I understand what a "popcorn movie" is... But it's still a bit of an annoying term. I did not like Transformers and don't understand when people I know say it's the best movie they've ever seen. And... Fuck Shia LeBeouf. He creeped me out as a teen star and he's still creepy now. I've not seen Shoot 'Em Up and it's not too high on my list of movies to watch.

While neither movie warrants a re-watch (even though I had to watch Tformers multiple times for a school paper - more on that later), one of the films knew it was ridiculous and ludicrious and did not take itself seriously. The OTHER FILM (Transformers cough cough) treated itself quite seriously and embarrassed the fuck out of itself. Proving once again, that Michael Bay is an absolute IDIOT. I nearly went insane analyzing this movie over and over again for a film paper. Have you guys heard of David Bordwell and his theory on intensified continuity? He basically claims that we don't exist in a postclassical Hollywood, but rather a time when tried and true filmmaking techniques from the classical age have just been modified in today's films and not ignored. I sought to prove that these tried and true techniques still exist in film...and with Transformers...the ONLY thing going through my mind was: target audience: 5 years old. That has to explain it. Michael Bay makes movies for babies. There's no other way a...

Shoot 'Em Up AND Transformers both kind of sucked. I could have forgiven Transformers for it's bad writing and acting if it delivered in the action department. But it sucked there too. As for Shoot 'em Up, it's a Crank wannabe. Only nowhere nearly as exciting and funny and inventive. The best action movie of the year is Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

Wow. I would take the shitty Spider-Man movie over the load of bullshit that was Shoot 'Em Up. Seriously, I wanted to gauge my eyes out and saw my ears off with a dull blade every time I saw/heard Paul Giamatti. This film was almost as if the director planned out all the action scenes and tried to come up with a plot/story LATER and his idea of "character" was making the protagonist pissed at petty bullshit. OH WAIT. HE DID. FUCK this movie. 0/10

They're both a hell of a lot of fun. Both are very entertaining. Transformers was a way better theatre experience... mostly because Shoot 'Em Up bombed and only had like 5 people in the theatre when I saw it, while Transformers was sold out.

I haven't and hope to never see Transformers (although Michael Bay's direction can't be worse than Paul Greengrass's for The Bourne Ultimatum), but Shoot 'Em Up was a hell of a lot of fun. That's a movie I can take seriously because it's an over-the-top action film that doesn't take itself seriously. To some extent, it's a spoof movie.
