A typical Adam Sandler film. While Wynona Ryder was good her character didn't have enough depth and the movie was filled with cliches and corny jokes. At least Sandler has Punch-Drunk Love to prove not all his recent movies are bad....Hopefully he'll do more like that. Overall Mr. Deeds was alright. The funniest scene was with the black woman trapped in the fire with her kitties. We need a little of that over-the-top stuff every once in a while. But other than that the movie....was not that good. 4/10 | | Static Link |

I LOVE this flick...Emilio and Crazy Eyes ROCK the house...and the Space Oddity sequence is just fantastic. Okay, so it's schmaltzy same-old...but it's bloody charming, and it kept me smiling throughout. Go on with your bad self. 7.5/10 | | Static Link |

Adam Sandler does an awesome performance here. This is the best Adam Sandler movie I've ever seen. With some laugh-out-loud scenes and a believable love story to boot. A great movie overall, I give it a 9/10. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: Pulpfellas87 at April 22, 2003, 11:26 am | | Topic: Reviews: Mr. Deeds Forum: JoBlo | | While I'm a fan of some Adam Sandler flicks (Waterboy, Big Daddy, Happy Gilmore), Mr Deeds is just a mess of a movie. It could've gone for the stupid-but-funny approach (waterboy) or it could've gone for the some-kind-of-story-to-tell-but-still-funny approach (big daddy) but Mr Deeds is caught in the mediocre middle. Not really all that funny, not really all that "touching". I'm still confused on how a movie as bland as this can make over $100 million. There's about 3-4 jokes in the whole movie and even those were done to death in the trailer. Sorry but I just didn't like this movie at all and believe it could've been better if they just would've spent more than a couple hours on the script. 3/10 | | Static Link |
| Posted by: NotKeyserSoze at April 22, 2003, 11:01 am | | Topic: Reviews: Mr. Deeds Forum: JoBlo | | There's something incredibly limp and empty about Mr Deeds, as a very predictable situation unravels involving barely any jokes, in what is a contradiction of just about all Adam Sandler's other gross-out comedy work. The trouble is, while Deeds is a nice (obviously quite dumb) character, he's so at ease with what's going on that there's no tension at all. The comedy is never strong enough to encourage any laughs, and only the foot-fetishist butler (who can magically appear anywhere, it seems) is actually funny at all. Winona Ryder is bland as the lying reporter, which is an incredibly familiar role, and the film's eventual good-willed finale is both expected and damned boring. There's not much to say, because Mr Deeds is never overtly awful - it's simply hollow and standard, and feels like a waste of time. Clearly one of Sandler's worst films, it's just not very interesting. 2/10 | | Static Link |

The best line was Woman trapped in burning building - I'm not leaving with me kitties! Deeds: OK, how many cats do you have? Woman: I have 7 kitties. Deeds: Holy shit | | Static Link |
| Posted by: Jerk Shapiro at October 22, 2002, 6:05 pm | | Topic: Reviews: Mr. Deeds Forum: JoBlo | | Mr. Deeds is easily Sandler's best work. Though I have not seen Punch-Drunk Love, which I hope is better than this movie. It is somewhat enjoyable/funny. Crazy-Eyes was uncalled for, on the other hand. Winona Ryder was looking pretty hot though. I thought the movie tried to be too deep and intellectual, sort of the opposite of a REAL Sandler flick. It just needed to stay funny. OVERALL: 6.5/10 I saw this when I wanted to see a funny movie. And it actually delivered. | | Static Link |

I would have to say that this movie was below Adam Sandler's normally goofy standards. I like Adam Sandler, but I didn't laugh much in this movie. I thought the tabloid plot was "wicked" stupid. Winona Ryder, even though looked cute, was a cardboard cutout. Some of the other characters didn't even have that depth. I hoped for the "You can do it" -type line from Rob Schneider, but he didn't deliver. Me thinks......4/10. | | Static Link |

The cat scene is possibly the funniest scene in any sandler movie. "HERE THEY COME.....(drops cats) REOWWWWWWWW! SMACK! SMACK!" LMAO! so great. | | Static Link |

I am proud to say that I am a HugeAdam Sandler fan and I was really looking forward to this movie, but I was let down. As Longfellow Deeds, Adam Sandler was not his bad boy self. Sure he could still kick ass, but not like Billy Maddison, or Happy Gilmore. Usually this doesn't matter to me, but Sandler didn't cuss at all. Like I said, language doesn't matter to me, but when I grew on Sandler's bad temper and bad mouth, I was let down. He said "Shit" once after which he appologized. All-in-all, the storyline just didn't click. I found myself looking at my watch a lot, wondering when it was time to leave. My rating: 5/10 | | Static Link |
| Posted by: northernlights at July 14, 2002, 3:21 pm | | Topic: Reviews: Mr. Deeds Forum: JoBlo | | "Mr Deeds" was a good movie and Adam Sandler played a role that fit him pretty well, I think. The one thing that I think could have been improved is the ending because it came out too convenient too quickly. It was wrapped up without a real explanation. Also, Ms. Ryder was not suited to this role. She may have portrayed the typical desperate tabloid journalist well, but who couldn't? I just wasn't feeling her. John Turturro was awesome!!! He had the best part in the whole movie and he was hilarious! I would go watch it again just to see him wacking Sandler's foot with the fireplace poker! He did a great job! Overall, the movie was okay, but Sandler has done better! I give it a 6/10. | | Static Link |

And I Love them all. For Sandler fans Mr.Deeds is another home run in a long series of Sandler films where we all get to be six-years-old again! And like six year olds we like to play, horse around, yell real loud, crack stupid jokes, and when someone pisses us off- we just beat 'em up Mr.Deeds is Sandler at his best. As for Winona: some tighter, low-cut, shirts would have really helped her lame performance. Mr Deeds 8/10 | | Static Link |

I was expecting it to be like 'Billy Madison' since the trailer made it seem very similar, but it just ain't as silly as you'd expect if you've seen all the first ones, it has a more mature purpose to it. Following a trend, of course Rob Schneider has to make his little cameo in here, and every once in a while there's an off-the-wall joke (not many are revealed in the trailer).. but other than that, Adam Sandler doesn't give his usual child-man performance, and has a reason for kicking people's arses! And in the end does good for the less fortunate. Unfortunately I never cared for Winona Ryder in any form, and couldn't really catch the chemistry here. Not to disrespect the works of the writers and producers here, I just couldn't accept her being Adam Sandler's lover in a movie. Overall, it was pretty good. | | Static Link |

Of course the foot wacking scene. The One where he punches the opera singer. When they guy says he's going to tie himself to a chair and burn himself with licked cigarettes. Those were some of my favourite parts but I can remember them all. Great movie, great acting, funny as hell. Overall 8/10. | | Static Link |

I enjoye every minute of this remake of the 1936 flic Mr.Deeds goes to Town. The innocence of Sandler was great and you would never expect him to do some of the stuff he does. Longfellow Deeds (Adam Sandler) inherits $40 billion dollars, and control of a big company which is in a troubling state after his uncle dies. Deeds eventually meets a young woman named Pam Dawson (Winona Ryder) who he thinks is a girl from a small little town, but in reality, she's a desperate news reporter looking for a story. How many times have we seen a movie about a really nice guy who lives in an unknown town, and has a passion for helping people out? Enough. How many times have we seen a movie about a desperate reporter, or anything of the sort, who goes undercover to do their job, but then ends up falling deeply in love with the person they are lying to? Enough. "Mr. Deeds" is basically just a mix of things we have seen all too many times. I've been saying it all along, I said "Mr. Deeds&qu... | | Read Entire Entry |

I've loved all of Adam Sandler's movies: "The Wedding Singer", "Big Daddy", "The Waterboy, etc...but this one is his best, I must say. I wasn't expecting much from it but to have a good time, but I was relieved to find much more to take away from it. Adam Sandler was not his usual unrealistically goofy self. He was serious, sweet, down to earth and good-hearted. Of course, he also brought his usual goofiness under it all and I think it takes talent to be that subtly funny! It was hilarious when he's told that he's inherited $40 billion and all he can say is, "Hey, that guy isn't a cop!" about a man who said he had to get back on duty. (long story) I thought his greeting cards were hilarious and sweet! (The one for Pam/Babe was a knee-slapper!) He landed his rich guy helicopter at a Wendy's parking lot to get Biggie Fries and a Frostie. He says to Anderson, "You were dreamin' about those frosties, weren't ya Anderson?" an... | | Read Entire Entry |

Adam Sandler has never been a critical darling and I think most of the bad reviews were already bad reviews before anyone even stepped into the theatre. That's just the way it goes with actors/actresses who aren't trying to make a lot of gobledeegook, they get pounded on much the same way that Britney Spears gets pounded for make fun music. It's fun, harmless and I happen to like it. It was nice to see Adam Sandler on Mach 5 instead of Mach 5, he was actually pretty good in toned-down mode. I thought Winona Ryder did a lovely job even though her character did flip-flop a little unconvincingly which was my only big problem with the flick. That wasn't her fault though. Other than that, the cameos were cute and all the actors did a good job with their respective roles. If you're looking for something a little sentimental and uplifting, stop right here. | Posted by: Nate6 at June 28, 2002, 8:36 pm | | Topic: Reviews: Mr. Deeds Forum: JoBlo | | MR. DEEDS Adam Sandler's films go from mediocre to horrendous. His best film, in my mind, would be The Wedding Singer, and this would be my choice for Number 2. It has, luckily, a sweet (if overdone) romantic side and a surprising, if not incredibly strong, chemistry between the leads. It has has some surprisingly funny moments in it too. But it is by no means a great film. The performances in this film were good, considering the material. Sandler wasn't nearly as annoying as usual, no accent or irritating character quirks. So he's actually watchable. Winona Ryder wasn't terribly impressive, probably because most of the time she looked like she'd rather be out stealing something (well, I'm getting sued for that comment). The bright spot in this film was John Turturro. I'm convinced that man can play any character he wants well, and as Deeds' Puerto Rican butler Emilio, he only enforces that thought. Steve Buscemi's weird eye character was good for a chuckle on occasion, but Rob Schneider's blink-and-you-miss... | | Read Entire Entry |
