The One definitely had some cool fight sequences. I love kung-fu movies and this one really impressed me on that standpoint. However, the acting and the characters were REALLY REALLY bad, especially Jet Li! I think he's good at fighting, but he's terrible at acting and the character he played needs to have a good actor playing him. Jet Li just can't be the main bad guy and the main good guy, he's just not good enough. The other actors didn't help much either, especially Jason Statham. He's a good actor in The Transporter and The Italian Job, but he seems to suck at acting in this one. The other actors are just fair. The storyline in The One was pretty cool too. I liked how they had different dimensions and how the same person had different lives in each dimension. I thought it was hilarious how in one dimension Al Gore was president, and in the other dimension George W. Bush was president. Overall, it's cool action and interesting plot keeps the movies from being utter crap. The One- 5/10

I thought it was a pretty damned awful film, but then my idea of a good film is something that makes you think, true enough about the numerous different dimensions etc, but still it was short and the fight scenes just didnt quite have that nice feel to them, the way they did in The Matrix, but i saw this as a sort of matrixique attempt which...just wasnt good, as with lots of this wire kung fu stuff coming out now, it just coincides with the sudden demand for japanese and chinese culture, same goes for equilibrium, it seemed pretty terrible, but whatever, opinions..... 4/10 it was just disapointing.

I thought this was a pretty good effort by the writing team of Morgan and Wong. Although to tell the truth I was honestly hoping for something a little more involving with the story, something like thier work on the X-Files, Millenium, or heck, even Final Destination whioch had the same vibe as thier previous efforts. But all in all, a good action flick to kill an hour and a half with. SIDENOTE- Jet-Li was almost not the guy to be the One. Originally the roll was offered to one Dwanye Johnson, a.k.a tHe ROCK. But at the last minute backed out, most likely to work on THE SCORPION KING.

the action sequences in this film were amazing. however, the plot just felt like it was added in to pad the bits where ass was not being kicked. which was a shame, because the concept of the film was pretty cool and they could have really expanded the whole alternate reality theory a little more. as it was, i just felt totally and utterly bored when no one was getting whooped. so great action sequences, but i found the lack of plot expansion to be a real bugger. which sucked, because it was something they could have done a hell of a lot with. 5/10

Could have been so much more... I wanted it to be so much more, but apparently the producer and director had no such lofty ambitions. It's ok for what it is... Mindless action..... but it's sad when you know that something that had so much potential to be awesome just settles for average. 7/10

Personally, I think you hsould know what you are expecting before going into the theater to see this. Jet Li doesn't say much in his films, getting a very good character developement is obviously not what I would go see this movie for, and it wasn't what I wasl ooking for, but there is a lack of it to criticize it generally. I am loking for action, and action is what I found. This film is not meant to be your well written and acted awesome quality movie like Fight Club . It should be looked upon on a basis of action movies. As an action flick I think this movie fullfills the thirst for explosions and crap beating of people. I don't think it's too fair giving this movie a very low score because it was lacking of character development, plot developement, etc.. Sure it's shallow in some aspects, but that should be expected. This movie deserves 8/10 for all the hard work in making this a kickass action film! -G_Fung_Powas

The One - 9/10. Nope, sorry. I'm going to have to disagree with pretty much everyone that reviewed this movie. I think it was absolutely kick ass! I'll give ya 5 good reasons. 1) It's opening scene told us all we needed to know. A narrator gives us an explanation of the parallel universes, how they are policed, how people gain strength from death... all that we needed (or cared) to know. Which means no 2+ hour movie spent explaining all the crap that we would ultimate decide makes no sense anyway. 2) It's short! That's right. The length of the film is under 90 minutes. After all, Jet Li should be a man of less talk and more action! 3) It's weird. There are ~125 universes with ~125 Jet Lis, ~125 wives of Jet Li, ~125 of each parrel universe police officer, ~125 of you, ~125 of me... crazy ain't it? And with all this energy out there, Jet Li seems to be the only one with all the power - shouldn't there be some other people who have bad luck genes somewhere in their family amounting to some characters worthy of...

The One The One - "absolutely pathetic" I enjoyed James Wong’s 2000 movie, Final Destination. It was a clever and enjoyable movie that brought something new to the teen horror genre. His follow up, The One, deserves to be praised. Not because it is good, but because it manages to rip off almost any action movie in the past few years imaginable. These include The 6th Day, The Matrix, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and many more. I could tell this movie was going to be bad from the start, and I was definitely right. This movie sucked a big one. Jet Li may be a good martial artist, but he’s a horrible actor. I mean, he could’ve just maybe put in a little facial expression during fight sequences, or tried to put a little more emotion into his character’s actions. The worst performance here is not actually by Li, but by Jason Statham. I couldn’t stand him! His mouth kept moving at odd angles and he tries to be tough and rough and is just really annoying. I had to turn my face away from his performance a...

This movie is awsome. The special effects are great. And seeing boys get kicked in the air and in slow motion there floating then he kicks them and they fall really fast is a treact to see. What more could you ask for ina Jet Li film. 8.5/10

The One should be titled "THE ONE That You Can Miss" I do not expect a lot from Jet Li (mainly because he sucks as an actor), so I wasn't expecting much from this movie. However, it was better than his last effort, but that's not saying much. There wasn't much martial arts in this movie. Mostly, it was a poor excuse for a Matrix rip off. It had some good effects, but that's about it. I thought the motorcycle scene looked cheesy. The plot was non-existent. The cops tracking the bad Jet Li should have been kicked off the force a long time ago. It seemed ridiculous that they were able to let the bad guy kill 133 people (or whatever the number really was). Couldn't they catch him during the first few murders? In addition, his duplicates were just as strong, fast, and smart as he was, since the "power" is distributed among the remaining duplicates, so why didn't one of his "other selves" kick his butt somewhere along the way. And what was the meaning behind the number of universes me...

What was I thinking when I walked into this film? Let's analize, I figured, this a movie with martial arts. I knew there was going to be some fighting. It's a sci-fi movie. There will some some B.S. stunts. But I didn't know they were going to play some of the worst soundtrack ever. Jet Li was really funny because it was such a riot seeing him try to act. TRY. I walked out of the theatre with a blank face and wonder, How can I get my time back.

"The One" well what do I say about "The One" besides it sucked. The special effects and fight's were cool and all but the rest just sucked ass. The acting was horrible, everyone overacted there roles. There was no story line. Was there a plot? Um,I don't think so. The special effects and kick ass hard-rock music could not makes up for all of the other horrible $#!! in this movie. Man don't waste $8.00 on this flim. The good thing was that it was only (about) 1 hour 25 minutes because I was getting tired and it got redicouls. The end was perdictable. Saw it coming a mile away. Rent it when it's a cheapey. 4.5/10 [This message has been edited by MementoOtnemem (edited 11-16-2001).]

In my opinion,"The One" is simply a bad martial arts film.
Idiotic plot,100% wooden performances across the board,an irritating, obnoxious soundtrack, zero characterization and ESPECIALLY completely
embarrasing dialogue ("You came for me,now I come for you") make it a grueling experience.
The fighting is technically competent, but undermined by the great feeling of pointlessness that comes from the aforementioned points.
It looks good at times, but the lighting is poor most of the time.
The special effects HURT the martial arts, being rather cheesy and making Li
almost a liability at times.Less would
definitely have been more,in this case. My advice is to avoid it,unless you crave 80+ minutes of pure mindlessness. Rating:*1/2 out of ****
Crouching Tiger,Hidden Dragon,the best martial-arts film I've ever seen,gets **** "MOrtal KOmbat:Annihilation gets 1/2)

The One (6/10) Although The One is total crap, I found it entertaining nonetheless. Basically, I went in to see a lot of cool fighting and SFX and that's exactly what I got. But I must admit, that after leaving the theatre, my higher brain functions kicked in. And all I could think about was how they pitifully wasted a good nucleus of a story. The director/writer/producer had lots of SFX, an intriguing Sci-Fi premise, DeRoy Lindo and the action star Jet Li. All they had to do was write a decent script. That's all. And this film truly could have been the one. (I apologize for that, I just couldn't help myself.) Instead, everything we learn about the multiverse is expository. They could have, at the very least, showed us the incident that got Yulaw started on his maniacal quest to begin with. Never before have I had so much respect for DeRoy Lindo. It was obvious that he was the only real actor in the bunch and that he did the best he could with the campy material. Everything in the story with the exception of...

I found "The One" to be rather disappointing.
I mean it has Jet Li kick butt all over the place and has some nice wire fu. But it can't compensate its tedious story, lack of character development and awkward love angle. Generally I liked the first half where Jet Li kicks not one but three officers and have them float in mid air i thought that was kind of cool. I also like the climatic scene were he battles himself. But the things that I was bothered by is why not explore the parrallel multi-universe plot by showing how he got stronger instead of explaining it. It should have shown Jet Li kill one of his Doppelganger then showing how he got stronger. Another there was no character development what so ever. All the actors seemed to be reciting the script instead of having genuine passion to act it out. Only Delroy Lindo stood out played one of multiverse cops. Lastly is the love angle between Jet Li and his wife played by Carla Gugino who seems bored and embarrassed when they share their scenes t...

The One 6/10... The One has a cool premise and an interesting sci-fi plot...but they could have done alot more with it. The plot is just basically set up for Jet Li kicking arse and some really cool action scenes. Basically an action film fan's delight, because this type of action/fighting is different from The Matrix, Crouching Tiger or Iron Monkey. I liked this alot more than Kiss of the Dragon, mainly because the action was more clearer and you could see what was going on. KOD action scenes were blurry and muddled. I also liked the idea of parallel universes and what diffenernt manifestations of yourself are in each universe..(Delroy Lindo's part in particular made me crack up). If your looking for some cool action and fight scenes and not much else, then this is the film for you...my friend said it was Highlander, Timecop and The 6th Day all rolled into one...and he was right.
