The main problem I had with X-Men was that it was too slow. The characters would keep talking the same mumbo-jumbo about mutant peace and I just wanted a fight to break out and when they did have action, it wasn't too impressive; but since I am such a Marvel fan, I enjoyed seeing these characters I've been reading for years finally on the big screen (Wolverine especially)! And even though X-Men is slow at times, it does manage to be fairly interesting and doesn't suffer from hardly any cornyness at all. There was only one line that bugged me- Storm: "Do you know what happens to a frog that is struck by lightning? The same thing that happens to everything else" (or something like that). The special effects and make-up were pretty good too. The make-up on this guy that turns into a mutant (I don't want to give away too much), really looks good and realistic. Overall, X-Men is a pretty good superhero movie that's not great because it's too slow at times and doesn't provide enough action. X-Men- 7/10

X - men: cool but not captivating enough, 7/10
Wolverine: probably one of the most interesting characters in the whole movie, 10/10
Rogue: she was cool but not as cool as the comic movie version of her, 8/10
Storm: she's so cool in the cartoon, what hapenned to her in the movie? 5/10
Professor Xavier: the man was born for that role, 9/10
Cyclops: he is really great in the cartoon but lacks interest in the movie even though he's still alright, 7/10
Jean Grey: never liked her in the cartoon but she was quite alright in the movie, 7/10
Magneto: he was quite cool but didn't really seem to hit the spot, 7/10
Mystique: is that girl cool or what? she is heavy! 9/10
Toad: I love toad! And darth maul! And probably all of the characters that Ray Park plays, he rocks!!! 10/10
Sabretooth: I liked when he grabed storm by the troat and when his streak of violence shows but apart from that, he's not exactly interesting... 6/10

This movie was way better than I expected. It had it all. Great characters, story, special effects, costumes, etc. The acting was great. Hugh Jackman and Ian McKellen outdid themselves in this movie. The rest of the acting is above average for this genre, and the SFX are fantastic. Mystique was great in that department. The only problem I had with the movie was that fact that it lacked character development for everyone except Wolverine, Rogue, Magneto, and Professor X. Otherwise, a great film! 9/10

Just rented X-men on DVD. I was very impressed!! I never got into comics when I was a kid, but I had a working knowledge of the basic plot. A race of mutanted humans, each with their own unique traits, live amongst regular humans; and as in all superhero plots some are good some not so good. I thought the character of Magneto was very interesting. A man (or mutant) who was persecuated by the Nazis in WWII, and has grown into the evil genius of the film. A man who even after the war suffered persecution again because he was different. So like the kid who is tired of being picked on his whole, he turns his aggression on those who persecuted him. The film itself did a great job of not falling into the trap of "Comic Book Cheese". It reminded me of the first Batman film in that way. It set up this world, not much different from our own, and added characters that are totally out of this world somehow keeping a bit of a realistic feel. The film followed a logic throughout. We are introduced to each of th...

I was never a fan of the X-men comic book series, but I sure did have a good time watching this movie! Surprisngly good character development, especially by Anna Paquin (Rogue) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine, duh!). I also enjoyed Famke Janssen in this film, she did a wonderful job as Jean Gray. I think Halle Berry's character was very underused; she did look the part, in my opinion, but what was up with that accent?? Oh well after seeing Monster's Ball I know how good of an actress she really is. All in all i am looking forward to its upcoming sequel and anticipate many surprises! 8/10

You’d think with a movie like X-Men that it would just be all action and no character development or any sense of depth. But this movie is way different. The film takes time to develop its characters, especially Rogue, so you feel sympathy or agony for what they are going through, men or women. The plot of the movie is really quite simple but is given a lot of intelligence by the clever dialogue and good set-ups. The acting is fantastic - Ian McKellen is a good baddie despite his age, Hugh Jackman is hairy and fabulous, Patrick Stewart puts on a believable show as Professor Xavier, Famke Janssen is sophisticated and sexy, Halle Berry looks cool in a white wig and acts well as the powerful Storm, James Marsden is given heaps of opportunities to WOW! the audience, Anna Paquin is sweet and expresses Rogue’s emotions brilliantly and the other evil X-Men do well too, including Ray Park (Darth Maul, anyone) in a tongue-twisting and scene-stealing role. Wow! Good casting, too, as you can see. Okay, back to the fact...

It's well-known that Fox cut out a good chunk of the film, mostly characterization, and it shows in the final product. It's still a decent movie, well-acted, but if only they released a director's cut or something... 6/10.

The best superhero movie ever, tie with BATMAN RETURNS! I gotta tell you, I was dreading this movie for months before seeing it. I was sure they'd screw it up in a BATMAN & ROBIN fashion, and I was sure that they'd never find decent actors to play the most extraordinary cast of super-heroes in the universe. I was wrong. Because the cast is one of the strengths of this movie. We've got Famke Janssen, the most underrated European actress, playing a terrific Jean Grey; Patrick Stewart who seems born to play Xavier; Ian McKellen who gives an extraordinary performance as Magneto; Ray Park as a fun Toad; Halle Berry as a perfect Storm; and Anna Paquin who creates a very interesting character in Rogue. The guys who play Cyclops and Sabretooth are good in the movie, but hey, I forgot their names. And there were especially two actors that stood out for me:
1°) Rebecca Romijn-Stamos. She doesn't say much, she doesn't do much, but she's a perfect Mystique. The orange eyes, the musique, and those sexy morphings ...
