this was a very engrossing soldier film. It was violenet and exciting, with an excellent moral quandry, that was brought to light with willis' character. I thought this was his best film since unbreakable. monica belluci was good and any film that has her in it I must see. this film was very gritty and realistic and was probably the best military film since blackhawk down. 8/10 ciao drdash

From a story standpoint, I found the film too simplistic. It ignored, even more than Black Hawk Down did, the historical context of the film - and the role that industrialized nations have played it Nigeria's history. That was a tough pill to swallow. As an action film, it was slightly better than average - the bar having been raised as of late, as the initial review noted, by SPR, TTRL, BHD, and even earlier 90s war films like Last of the Mohicans and A Midnight Clear. Willis was good, although I never bought his change of heart. Belluci is easy on the eyes and not much else. As is usually the case, the high points were the supporting joes - Cole Hauser, Tom Skerritt, etc. I'd give it 6.5 or maybe 7.0 out of 10; In comparison, SPR gets an 8.3, BHD gets a 8.5.

TEARS OF THE SUN an Antoine Fuqua movie Well, damn. Spank me if you disagree, but I just loved this movie. To be honest, I didn't expect much going into it. A friend had recommended it warmly, but hey, the dude loves everything with the Army in it, I mean, he's currently training to be a sharp shooter (aka "sniper") in the French Army. So I listen to him, I go see this movie. I expected a slightly boring movie, as people had said it didn't have that much action. I expected to wonder "damn, where did Bruce put his razor?" or "what the fuck is this hot Italian woman doing in Nigeria?" during the movie. I expected the movie to be just an attempt from Antoine Fuqua (of TRAINING DAY fame) to be considered a serious director. I was so wrong. TEARS OF THE SUN is an extremely thought-provoking movie. The story and plot are extremely interesting and engaging, and far from predictable. Even if action in its most narrow sense is almost absent of the first three quarters of this movie (with...

STORY -- A group of Navy SEALs headed by A.K. Waters is sent into West Africa to extract a doctor, two nuns and a priest. The commited doctor won't leave without 70 of her patients and the rebel forces are closing in. Tears Of The Sun is a very underrated movie. It's gritty, emotional and thought provoking. I actually avoided seeing this in theaters beacause it seemed everyone was deeming it boring and ridiciolous. It's anything but. The first half is packed with tension and drama, the second half consisting of basically all action. Even when nothing is happening your still glued to your seat because the story is extremely interesting and the cinematography is beautiful to look at. The horrors of West Africa is an important story to tell and Tears Of The Sun does it justice. Although I would have liked some more backstory on everything, a little more with the politics of the country and some more points of view from the rebel soldiers. If the movie had of explored these issues further then it could have poss...

8/10 I really liked this movie. It was a lot more serious then I thought it was going to be. Bruce Willis was great in this, he is in most movies he does. There's also a lot of powerful scenes. Don't walk in expecting a flat out action film like Die Hard. It's just not that kind of movie. I had my doubts about the movie, from reading joblo's 5/10 review, but then I saw his 7/10 review for Dude, Where's My Car, so everything turned out nice.

Tears of the Sun is a very solid, gritty and ultimately satisfying military rescue thriller with a very realistic and intense setting and a solid cast lead by Bruce Willis and the surprising Monica Bellucci. Willis play Lieutenant Waters the leader of a small Special Ops team, who must go into the war-torn African nation of Nigeria and bring back an American doctor Lena Hendricks played by Bellucci, who is stationed at a mission deep in the African Jungle, soon to be overrun by ruthless and merciless rebel forces. Waters is a good leader, follows orders and gets the job done. His mission is to bring back the doctor, a priest ad two nuns from the mission. Complications arise when Doc. Hendricks refuses to go without some 70 refugees that she has been looking after...and knows that anyone who is left behind at the mission will be left to a slaughter. At first Waters and his team are reluctant to carry the extra burden of the 70 refugees, but a change of heart leads him facing impossible and improbable odds. It...

Not a spectacular movie by any means, but I did enjoy the two hours in the theatre watching this flick. What started out as a character driven flick, this movie slowly evolves into a pretty cool action picture. This movie doesn't compare with the likes of Saving Private Ryan, or maybe even We Were Soldiers, but Bruce Willis shows once again that he can be a leading man in a very cool movie. He does show a lot of acting talent alongside the ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL Monica Bellucci. I swear, she looked hot even while being dirty, bloody, and any other characteristic that would make practically anybody else look ugly. Oh yeah, she held her own acting-wise with Bruce. Although, I didn't get into most of the other supporting characters - like the refugees or the military people, and the subplots didn't appeal to me that much at all. But the action scenes and the chemistry between Willis and Bellucci kept me in it most of the way. 7/10

Tears of the Sun is an engrossing, gritty, thought provoking movie. Much has been made regarding the timing of the realease of this movie given the current situation in the Middle East. Other than the fact that the military is involved, there are very few parallels. The film deals with a subject that is little recognized in this country and even less a concern, yet affects large portions of the world....ethnic cleansing. The movie shows the devastation, the upheaval of everyday life when ethnic groups turn on each with muderous violence. We see ordinary civilians mercilously slaughetered for no other reason than they are the wrong religion. Is it overdone for the sake of drama? No. Consider that over 500,000 people died in a 3 month period in 1999 when the Hutu and Tutsi tribes fought in a civil war. Most of those killed were civilians. Beyond the subject matter, Tears of the Sun is a well acted military action movie. The SEAL team led by Bruce Willis comes off as realistic and well trained. I found the movi...

Tears of the Sun - (7/10) Info: 2003, R, Bruce Willis, Monica Bellucci Genre: War Drama/Action Comments: I had a lot of mixed feelings while watching this movie. At times I thought hmmm too slow then hmmm good action then hmmm forced sympothetic dialouge.... but in the end I realized that this was one tight flick. The action blended very well with the drama. The whole jungle atmosphere was great and the tribal music added a great atmosphere. The story was thin but very solid. Bruce Willis and his crew of a handful of men goto a jungle deep in Africa to get a doctor out of an area about to be taken over by rebel forces. However the bitch just doesn't want to leave her people and wants Bruce and crew to take them too. Id just like to add that Monica has a nice rack... ok back to the review. Bruce Willis remains concrete emotionally and insists that the mission just needs to be completed. However along the way back he decides to turn the chopper around and get the people out. This is when they get chased by the...
