Any way you look at it, I'm glad we have both the TV ending and the film ending, because it gives you that much more to think about. As a huge Eva fan, here's my own $0.2 . . . *spoilers* I saw these two episodes AFTER watching EoE, so yeah, I recognized 'those' shots of Ritsuko and Misato. However, when placing them together WITH EoE as intertwinning events, I do come to think of them as deleted scenes. So yeah, I myself like these two episodes (though they don't come close to the beggining of the serious Evangelion from "Ambivalence" (with the best episode ending I have seen on TV[ "Shinjiku . . . Shinjiku!" &quo...

Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995) Cast: Megumi Ogata - Shinji Ikari Megumi Hayashibara - Rei Ayanami/Yui Ikari Kotono Mitsuishi - Misato Katsuragi Yûko Miyamura - Asuka Langley Yuriko Yamaguchi - Ritsuko "I can't run away. I can't run away. I can't run away. I can't run away." -Shinji Plot: In the year 2015, mankind is threatened by huge creatures called "The Angels". They can't do nothing against them so human creates the Evangelions, (the coolest mecha-thingees you'll ever see) the only thing that has a chance against the Angels. A young pilot by the name of Shinji is summoned as the last hope to pilot the Eva (Evangelion, short). The story unfolds like anything you' ve seen before. What I Thought: To be perfectly honest, I wasn't an anime fan until very recently . . . since I'm being honest, I might also add that I was never even remotely interested in Evangelion, as a series. That all changed a fatefull afternoon when I sat down to watch "The End Of Evangelion" but that's anoth...

By the way, I'm slowly working my way through the series again, and it's a lot more enjoyable this time around (just as EoE was the second time). I still stick by what I said in the review, though.

I love the whole series. But I only own Death and Rebirth and End of Evangelion. The box set is way to expensive

Quote: SPOILER!!!....In the director's cuts of the last six episodes (which are available in R1 DVD, by the way), they do find out. Episode 24 begins with Asuka's flashback about her mother, followed by Shinji telling her about Kaji.END SPOILER Tch. That wouldn't happen to be an extra on the perfect collection, would it? No . . ? Damn. You know, I think I saw a bit of that on that Death & Rebirth DVD. Just out of curiosity, what happens?

In one we see what happens in the mind, the other the physical world, the reality of "it". Right? The problem was EoE, while showing the physical...

Wow, I did miss that plot-point about why it's the children to pilot the evas. Still though, that's an odd explanation. I know, I know, I don't want the series to sit down and explain EVERYTHING, but this just seems like an important thing. And I know about Misato. Actually, it wasn't a fake, but the opposite (right?). Misato was showing shinji a part of her she rarely showed others (though she showed that to kanji, so in a weird way both him and shinji knew a misato the others didn't). About the characters dropping out, here's my main beef: toji. Without spoiling what happens, I was REALLY wanting some closure on that whole issue. Maybe have just a split-second conversation with Shinji. But no, once 'that scene' happens he's just out of it for the rest of the series. On that note, this is a SPOILER, AVOID THIS ONE BECAUSE IT'LL RUIN ONE OF THE MOST DEVASTATING MOMENTS IN THE SERIES!! . . . so once kaji died I was dissapointed that none of the kids ever found out. An interesting analysis...One I don't entirely agree with, but to each their own. You make a few good arguments. While I personally like the series the whole way through, it only starts to get REALLY interesting when director Hideaki Anno turns up the intellectual volume (the story is that the series was in production while Anno was suffering some heavy depression, and he charted his various thoughts through Shinji's experiences). The strange revelations encountered in episodes where Shinji goes on his mind-trips still hit me like a brick, as do Rei and Asuka's "big secret" in episodes 21-24. The characters, aside from the three Children, Misato, and the Commanders, do seem to have little to do but scream "No, that's impossible!", but that could just be to fit their "Greek Chorus" roles within the story. And yes, the fan-service is admittedly silly and useless...That doesn't mean I don't still appreciate it. The final two episodes are a continuing source of debate among Eva fans...

I need to watch the series before buying it. I'll have to find out a way to watch them episodes. The truth is that EoE is too good to be believed, I need more NGE.

NOTE: This is a television series as opposed to movies, but since Arrow seemed to've gotten into the series thing we schmoes should follow suit. So here we go . . . SECOND NOTE: Since this is a television series I'm going to rate it differently than my previous reviews. Every television series will be rated on the following: Episodes Characters Story Growth All of the above pertain to THIS SEASON ONLY. The final rating will be a letter grade instead of the */10 format. So here we go . . . uh, again . . . The most controversial anime of all time, and arguably the best, Neon Genesis Evangelion has a lot to live up to. Does it? Well, yes and no. Yes because it manages to offer us some of the greatest minutes ever captured on film, animation or otherwise, in the series finale-turned-movie End of Evangelion. No because the actual series is lacking in characters, plot, coherency, and pace. After the mysterious Second Impact wiped out most of the world’s population, the survivors were refused returning to normality...
