I was confused with some of the parts like how johnny depp got the fake arm in the end, how he caught that cellphone in the end, I saw his eyes in the movie with the sunglasses but thats a ok blooper....but why did he kill the cook that made the best pork...stuff if its his favorite food? But other than that it was a entertaining, funny, full of 1 liners, action flicked, which I loved. Once Upon a time in mexico: 9 Desperado: 8 El marachi: 9 Trilogy ( not average) 10! IM SORRY IT JUST KICKED ASS!!! | | Static Link |

There was no development of the charachters it was kind of a mishmash of B.S.in between all of them. Action scenes were awesome (I just wish they were bloodier) it was decent nothing on Desparado though | | Static Link |

He is without a doubt the coolest and most diverse actor out there today. Once Upon A Time In Mexico is the wrap up film to the El Mariachi trilogy. And most of the old cast members from Desperado return in this one. This movie was well shot and choreographed. The musical score was enjoyable, but the storyline was lacking. Not to mention there was a lot of wasted talent in this movie. Robert Rodriguez had so much star power in this movie, yet he didn't use them to their full potential. He was better off using no names for some of the big stars. And he probably would have saved a couple million in the process. Plot: The El Mariachi (Antonio Banderas) returns to his killing ways when he is hired by a rogue CIA agent (Johnny Depp) to kill a general who the El Mariachi wants to kill anyways for reasons I will not disclose. Which in the end will make Johnny rich and Antonio's thirst for vengeance quenched. The reason for kill... | | Read Entire Entry |

Not so much a sequel, but more of another, completely different story revolving around the same character (a la Eastwood's 'Man With No Name'), Once Upon a Time in Mexico continues that tradition that we liked so much in the previous movie(s): lots of explosions, gunbattles, guitar cases with attitude, and an opening that involves an exaggerated story involving the mysterious "El." In fact, the action and gunfights are so deliberately extreme and unbelieveable (literally), that it's awesome!! The movie basically revolves around Johnny Depp and Antonio Banderas (obviously). Depp delivers another freakin' awesome performance as a somewhat-rogue CIA agent (Central Intelligence Agengy or Cleavage Inspection Agency? - you decide) who is manipulating some kind of scheme that'll make him rich. Antonio Banderas is out fo... | | Read Entire Entry |

I can put my hand on my heart and honestly say that this movie is in my top 5 WORST MOVIE'S OF ALL TIME. How could any actor pick up the script for this movie and say - "My god, this is a classic, this is the movie I've been waiting for..." But where did it all go wrong? Great Cast - But they could have all been replaced with unknowns apart from Depp (in fairness, he did steal the show, but there wasn't much competition). Banderas was terrible, Hayek looked fantastic but was also equally terrible, Defoe was ridiculous, Rourke probably thought he would resurrect his career ala Travolta in Pulp Fiction, no chance of that happening though. The Plot - Idiotic, confusing and uninteresting, actually I'm not even going to bother writing about the plot. The Action - No where near as cool as Desperado, there were only glimpses of the almost dance-like shootout's from Desperado, in this movie Banderas just mowed down 10 bad guys with a s... | | Read Entire Entry |

This movie had an incredible cast, lots of potential and was the follow-up to a very cool little movie. So where did Robert Rodriguez go wrong? Antonio Banderas was kick-ass in the returning role of El Mariachi, but did not have near enough screen time to be associated with the lead role. The woman of my dreams, Ms. Salma Hayek, is only shown for about 5 minutes, has a few lines and they fuckin' kill her off anyway?! What a rip. Johnny Depp despite his recent assinine comments about the United States, is a solid actor and he played the part of "Sands" perfectly. I know if I'm casting for a movie and I needed the role filled of a vicious Mexican crimelord I would go after...Willem Defoe?! That made about as much sense as him in a rubber green costume in a high-budget crapfest. And what rock did they find Mickey Rourke under? And if you put Enrique Iglesias in leather with guns and slow-mo frames, he still looks... | | Read Entire Entry |

"Once Upon a Time in Mexico" is the third chapter in Rodriguez's "El Mariachi" trilogy, curiously similar to Leone's "Man With No Name" trilogy in more ways than I could keep track of. Leone's westerns are built around flashy camera work, biting one-liner dialog, and palpable tension. Rodriguez's characters can't decide whether they're talking in English or Spanish. Antonio Banderas is El Mariachi, the legendary guitar slinger slash crazy gunman who carries enough weapons to arm a small country in the case of his instrument, journeying from town to town - maybe - and killing evildoers - again, maybe. Not a lot of the story makes any sort of sense, but it's not particularly supposed to. In the prologue, Rodriguez regular Cheech Marin tells a story abou... | | Read Entire Entry |

I didn't expect an oscar caliber movie, so I was very much entertained. Let's get some things out of the way. Enrique Iglesias, go back to doing whatever you did before. (What was that again?) You should not act in any more films....ever! While you're at it, take Mickey Rourke with you. (What was up with the dog Rourke carried around EVERYWHERE?) Why was Cheech Marin in this movie??? He was shot in the middle of the forehead (not the eye) in Desperado! Why wasn't Salma in the movie more? Who cares if she can't act? Actually, I liked the way her character kicked butt in this movie. I would have enjoyed seeing more of Eva Mendes also. Antonio Banderas, Willem Dafoe were OK, but Johnny Depp stole the show. Johnny was fantastic. He was funny in almost everything he said and did. Hats off to you sir! The plot was a little too complex for its own good. I think it would have been better if we didn’t have everyone trying to doub... | | Read Entire Entry |

Like other Rodriguez films before it, there are a few reasons for this. First of all, it's violent. Pretending otherwise is silly, so if you abhor gratuitous violence on screen stay home. Second, it is part of a disjointed series including El Mariachi and Desperado, both starring Banderas as a gun-and-guitar-toting Mexican folk legend. As a result, some fans of the first two movies will undoubtedly dislike it while others will tout it as "the best of the three." This is an unfortunate inevitability with sequels. Last, it has a quirky and dark sense of humor, honor, and philosophy that only fans of such films like. Those who dislike these movies (like Fight Club and the others in this series) don't just dislike them: they hat... | | Read Entire Entry |

I disagree that that violence was on par with Deperado. Do get me wrong Rodriguez managed plenty of over the top action here, but this movie was a study of how character can work. Even the President had personality, motivation and a couple of clever lines. Usually the president of countries tend to be bland, Americanize stereotypes. Johnny Depp - COOOOOOL Antonio Banderes - Suave Selma Hayek - HEEEEEEEEEEY, what's up with that? Okay I understand it fit the story, but I gotta be me. Micky Rourke - No bad, haven't seen him in a bit William Defoe: Rodriguez I need me one evil looking dude. Casting Dude/Dudette Sorry RR, Walkin is not available. Wait, Defoe is. Let's go in order, the acting, the plot, the music and the overall. Acting: Gee, Hayek is on the poster, her name appears on second place and she is .... 5 MINS in the film, damn that impressive... Banderas, nothing new, nothing special, the Mexican version of Arnie, "I am the Mexican hero, here to save the country the Mexican way"... Depp, he is the first character to appear on the screen ... and already make a hilarious debut for a movie. "You aren't gonna kill me for 10,000$, You won't dare" "I would" Dafoe doesn't speak a word of English and Mendes .... wtf was all that "I'm his daughter" shit ? Some of the things that really bugged me were the editing. It seemed really choppy at times (I guess that's why in the opening credit RR put chopped instead of edited). Going from scene to scene was very abrupt, and not consistent. If it happened every time, I would say it was his style, but it wasn't consistent at all. The action had way to many fast moving shots. What ever happened to actually showing someone kick the shit out of another person without having quick pan and zoom shots hiding the fact that they couldn't beat the shit out of a gnat. ***possible spoiler*** Too many sub plots. Yeah it's nice to make us think, but in this case I thought it took away from the overall story a tad. ***end spoiler*** Johnny Depp is the real deal. Just like Pirates, he makes the movie. I'm an RR fan to the fullest, but this was the worst movie he's ever made. Most of the action was 'Desperado: Redux', only worse. What's with the 'firecracker whistle' in every damn shootout? Johnny Depp steals the show (just like in Pirates). This guy has to be the best actor alive and he didn't deserve to be in a movie this damn bad. At the theater I went to, 15 people walked out. Most I've ever seen. All bad. 1 out of 5 stars. | | Static Link |
