Milla Jovovich looked stunning as Alice, which help to keep any swaying attention hehe but good backing from the likes of the tomboyish Michelle Rodriguez carried it well. The gore scenes were well done, this film would be nothing if it wasn't bloody enough, and the zombies were infact believeable walking cantations. With the release of Resident Evil II: Apocalypse the original in my opinion remains the better of the too, with much more in the way of character development, allowing you to care for the escapees plight. Of course it was cheesy, but just sit back and enjoy its not all bad! Th... | | Read Entire Entry |

I like the atmosphere drenched first half more. It actually had some creepy moments. And they work better when the movie gets to actiony in the second half. Milla Jovovich does a solid job as does Michelle Rodriguez. The rest of the cast are decent. The second half has it's moments but I definately like the first half more. Overall, I'd say it's worth seeing if you love video game movies and have nothing else to do. I personally liked Mortal Kombat and Super Mario Bros. better as far video game movies. Though it's DEFINATELY a LOT better than the first Tomb Raider movie! 6/10 Grade: B- | | Static Link |

Both were a total surprise to me, I plan on buying the two pack that has both films in it, which I'm sure they'll have when the second comes out. 8/10 | | Static Link |

Since I was never that much a fan of the videogames, so I just watched the movie as a movie. God, did I enjoy it. Action packed, lots of intense, memorable scenes, some slick visuals, great acting. 9/10. Some character issues, either way, great film. | | Static Link |

The review is based on the stand-alone enjoyment of the film. "Resident Evil" (2002) Written and directed by Paul WS Anderson Starring: Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez 7/10 "You are all going to die down here." Plot: A top-secret virus that can re-animate the dead is set loose in a hi-tech lab. The virus is isolated by the in house computer system but not before killing all that work there. A crack commando unit tries to enter the facility to set everything right...until they are beset upon by killer lasers, zombies, zombie dogs, and some mutant beast with a 17 foot long tongue. Review: Is this high art? Hell no. Is it an enjoyable popcorn horror/action flick? Hell yes. Think a strange cross between "Aliens" "Cube" and "Dawn of the Dead". What I like about the film is that it ditches the cutesy-poo aspect we are seeing in many so called horror films these days. This one doesn't pull punches or cop out... | | Read Entire Entry |

I was disapointed, its not a bad movie but when the cut scenes in the games (like REmake, 0, 2 etc) are more entertaining then the movie thats a problem. Alos wtf was up with the zombies...okay so they didnt have alot of time to rot up and stuff and look like the ones from the games but the virus does contribute to it. I was very disapointed by the zombies appearence. The movies violence was G rated compared to the games and the movie could be greatly improved. One of the BEST endings i have ever seen tho....gotta love the muck up deserted town! hopefuly the problems will be improved for the sequal. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: Dignan at June 30, 2003, 2:48 am | | Topic: Resident Evil 8/10 Forum: JoBlo | | This movie gets a lot of unneeded bashing, and while it is not a great zombie film, it IS a great biological horror movie. Totally underrated, imo. Paul Anderson is a great director, I expect great things from him in the near future. You'll see. 7/10 Not perfect, but entertaining and fairly solid by most accounts. | | Static Link |

Nothing good about them-the look, movments, all sucked. At least the zombie dogs were cool. But overall a okay movie. 6/10 | | Static Link |

Not one film has yet earned a 5 star rating from me, but of all the bad films released so far Resident Evil is the worst. It is said that if you were to give an infinite number of monkeys a typewriter each they would, eventually, produce the works of Shakespeare. This I doubt, but they might well come up with the script for Resident Evil. The script for this film is idiotic, particularly in the first half, as it lurches from scene to scene, seldom bothering to provide us any information as to how the characters have moved from one situation to the next. Characterisation is non-existent, I learnt nothing about any of these characters and so was unable to care whether they lived or died, indeed my only reaction to the deaths was to be relieved as I knew we were closer to the end of the film... | | Read Entire Entry |

The acting sucked, the story was terribly predictable, and the action/intensity were just so-so. I did not like the gorey scenes not only because they were discusting but to weird. What the hell was with the heads being sliced up into eights and shit? Nasty!!! I agree with Ebert on this one... Loud, pointless, and stupid. The Grades 1.5/4

I love popcorn films when they don't insult my intelligence with horrible acting, stale writing and a storyline that my grandma would love to have laughed at. Uh... The only redemming quality was the last shot which showed some hope, but barely gave me a reason to like, or even enjoy this film. 4/10 | | Static Link |

It was a cheesy, horror movie based on a video game. It was indeed fun and gave me some good scares. I'd give it a 6.5/10. | | Static Link |

It's a mindless, fun film that has a few frights as well as edge of your seat action scenes. Besides, we were due for a zombie flick(even though the acting was as dead as they were.). I actually found myself rooting for Michelle Rodriguez. Thin plot+great action+twisted horror= Great Popcorn fun!! RATING 7.5/10 | | Static Link |

A virus has escaped in a secret facility called "The Hive," turning the staff into hungry zombies and releasing the mutated Lab "Animals" that they were studying. The complex computer shuts down the base to prevent infection. The parent corporation sends in an elite military unit, where they meet Alice, who is suffering from amnesia due to exposure to nerve gas. The military team must shut down the computer and get out, fighting their way past zombies, mutants, and the computer itself, before the virus escapes and infects the rest of the world. Alice must also come to terms with her slowly-returning memories. This film was amazing pure cheese it features some of the tense scenes i have seen all year (The laser scene wow!!) and soem kick ass action sequences (The Dogs) and i thought some strong acting.
