WARNING: IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE, DON'T READ THIS... The first thing that puzzled me about the movie, until it got further along, is that it had absolutely nothing to do with a ring, and that you find out what that means later. The second thing that puzzled me is why on earth little Aiden kept calling his mother Rachel. I would bitch-slap my kid if he did that. It was very annoying. Aside from seeing several movies about Evil Little Girls, we have no idea where little Samara actually came from. Maybe she really was the Spawn of the Devil...one doesn't know. But since I work for an infertility clinic, I am only hoping that she wasn't the result of an in-vitro fertilization gone awry, perhaps substituting the devil's semen for her father's. Maybe this is why he states emphatically "I HAVE NO DAUGHTER!" If she was mine I wouldn't claim her either. I thought the part where Rachel coughed up a lead used on Samara was interesting, not sure what it was to be a symbol of however. Samara's mis-treatme...

--Sing the "Spoilers" song!-- Amid the tedious procession of teen slashers, where brainless bimbos get hacked apart by slowly plodding invincible monsters, now and again a hyped-up "classic" comes along. Final Destination got the praise, though it just happened to be funnier than the average slasher flick. The Blair Witch Project deserved the title, thanks to actually producing scares rather than "jump" moments. "The Ring" is the latest film to get people clapping in druid-like unison, and while it's okay, I can't say I was wildly impressed. The story is both pleasantly simple (watch a video and you'll be dead in 7 days) and rather bafflingly vague (who made it? what exactly does the little girl do?), and the fact that the heroine has 6 days to wander around wondering what's happening - without being in any actual danger - makes the whole thing very drawn out and slow. She has the most impossibly creepy child ever seen in a horror film (I include Linda Blair in that) a...

The1TrueFrog's additional comments concerning The Ring and Ringu In addition to my original 9/10 review posted long ago when this movie was in theaters, I would like to comment on Ringu, the original Japanese fiasco that started The Ring... Ringu-3/10 Folks, I saw this horrible film on DVD last weekend to satisfy my obsession with the great movie that came out last fall... mainly due to the comments our fellow shmoes gave about how stunning and scary it was... and though many will tell you things like "Ringu was so much better", or "this movie was just an american copy of the original -- you should see the original", I found the original to be CRAP! that's right -- C-R-A-P -- CRAP!. The story was quite different and not nearly as dark and mysterious, the tape had maybe two of the creepy scenes in The Ring and not much else of interest (unless you are from Japan maybe), Samara seemed like 8-feet tall, and the Japanese mother sure was a moron! And the estranged father was just ordinary like...

The Ring is flat out scary as hell! And I've been waiting for this movie to come out for a long time. The unintelligent horror films were beginning to get old and I wanted a horror movie that was not only scary, but well made. The Ring is exactly that and more! It is the perfect horror show. If it doesn't scare you, it at least intrigues you. The Ring is one of my favorite movies of all time because its deep and mind boggling scary. Naomi Watts is a terrific actress and that little kid wasn't bad either; he kinda freaked me out and that little girl scared the living crap out of me. Most people say that the ending was stupid, but I loved the ending, I couldn't think of a better way to end it than that. It was perfect and Gore Verbinski did a great job of directing this film, too bad he couldn't do the same for Pirates of the Caribbean, oh well! Overall, The Ring was a scary intelligent horror film that should definitely be considered as a classic. The Ring- 10/10

Wow. This film scared the DOO-DOO out of me. From the freaky opening scene I was captivated throughout the entire film. (Even with my eyes closed in some parts ) Don't expect everything to make sense in the end, because all of it won't. The direction was great and so was the acting. The TV scene near the end will go down in movie history! Making sense rating 4/10 Scary rating 9/10 overall 8/10

My Late Opinion: It good to see Horror get off the "Heads flying, ax in the face, blood everywhere" theme that has dragged it down. This movie is good with every watching, and the ending sent me under the covers (and the pillows, and the mattress.) I HIGHLY recommend the three Japanese versions as well, ESPECIALLY "RING 0 - or ZERO) - if you want a REALLY creep out ending, the Ring had one, but ZERO had another one that was so creepy it should be in every single documentary on Horror.

This is one of the scariest, most creative and clever movies I've seen in a long time. Tell you what ... the Japanese original must be really terrifying, because it's supposed to be worse. I still can't stop thinking about it. It is just so damn good. We put it in at 9 Wed night and at 1:30 am, my heart is still racing, I'm wide awake and freaked. At work, it's all I can think about, and I talk about it and I can't get it out of my mind. I have to get the book. It's not released yet, sometime this month. I have some questions about a couple of things, but don't want to ruin one second of it for someone else. Should I ask them? Another thing, that music! Sent doom and dread right down my spine.

All of the hype and hoopla finally convinced me to give this movie a rental this weekend. I honestly didn't see what the big deal is. I'll admit that the opening scene was a little spooky, but that's only because I didn't know what was coming next. Once they explained everything, it was hard for me to take the film seriously for the rest of the movie. I didn't scream, jump or get nervous and usually scary movies get to me. Everyone has the own opinions, and mine is this movie sucked. It was a great premise, I just thought they took it in all the wrong directions. I was extremely disappointed. I liked the original "Blair Witch Project" and most people thought that was utterly stupid, so go figure.

I finally got to see The Ring and I was not disappointed . Probably the scariest film of 2002. This was a great mystery- horror with all the right elements that a horror film should have. The whole film had a dread feeling starting from the very beginning. Just the right atmosphere that you know something real scary and disturbing is going to happen. Something that happened to me , about 15 minutes into watching the film right at a really scary part my phone rang and just about gave me heart attack. I wasn't expecting anyone to call because it was really early in the morning and I had got up just to watch this movie. It was my friend.........but how weird !!!!!!!!! Watch this one in the dark!!!!! You'll be scared half to death!!! 8.5/10

wow oh wow oh wow. i was totally sucked into this film. i love watching a good old mystery unfold.very dark, plays on the nastier side of the imagination. keeps u rooted to the seat watching every detail the whole time. not scary as such, maybe creepy (the more u think about it, the creepier it gets) and really really tense. i had a great time. it ended 3 and a half hours ago, and i can not get it out of my head. i have the original on tape at home, so i may take time out to watch it and make a comparison to this. on a side point, ms watts is some rather fine eye-candy. and a good actress as well. she really carried this film off well. if you want a dark disturbing tale, that plays in the dark side of you mind, catch this movie. if you want laughs and fluffy bunny rabbits, id probably skip it. 9/10

I was very disappointed in this movie. Any of you guys watched the Japanese original version? well all I can say is that, it is much better and more scarier. My sister even screamed when she watched the original, but when she saw the hollywood version, she told me it's just a whole damn copy cat who just made the movie uglier. First of all the original does not have, bloody corpses, freaky background musics, (even jumpin' horses maybe)and dark atmosphere. When I sawe the hollywood version, I find boring bec. they added to many ideas on it, they even changed things that shouldnt be tamapered(particularly trhe towel head man). The Ring cannot have a prequel and a sequel bec. they ended the story already unlike the "Ring"(jap.) they made it's prequel Ring 0 and sequel Ring 2 which is both great, (by the way in Ring 0, they showed Sadakos face (Hollywood: Samara), she's such a cutie, try searching a picture of "Yukie Nakama" on the net and you'll know what I mean.) also in the hollywood vers....

I pretty much enjoyed this movie, except for the last ten minutes... ***************MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!***************** This movie was good, but the last ten minutes ruined it for me. The reason is this: By the first "fake ending" I thought I understood the moral of the stoy. About how the family didn't know how to take care of the little girl so they tossed her down a well. This sort of resembled The woman, her son, and his father, who didn't take responsibility for his child. And by the "fake ending" I sort of thought that the moral had to do with taking resonsibility for your kids. And it looked as though the boy's mother and father were to get back together again. Bad idea. Needless to say, the boy's father is killed, and we're left with a cheesy cliffhanger. Oh, well over all, 7/10.

Man, I can't even remembered the last time I was really psyched up about a horror movie. I think the last movies like The Exorcist, Shinning, and Suspiria that I have been so enthused about a film. The atmosphere and creepiness is the best that I have ever seen in a film and I think the acting by all four of the characters were top notch, even the little boy. I have seen the orginal and the little boy in that picture was a waste. This film has made me appreciate the Japanese films (horror kind) even more. On a side note, I have seen the Japanese Ring trilogy and it is the best horror film trilogy out there, period!! I have also seen The Eye which I hear is going to be remade and have Dark Water which I haven't seen, but I here a few people say that it is even more creepier than The Ring!! BTW, Dark Water is also directed by the same director of Ring. So my mark are: Ring (2002) - 9/10 Ring (Jap) - 8/10 Ring 2 - 8.5/10 Ring 0 - 7/10 The Eye - 8/10

The RIng, hmm intresting movie and i could see it to some peoples eyes a thriller! but to me... it was a comedy. i laughed most the time unless there were killings... the main way they tried to make it scary was the transitions... so the one episode is ending they open it up with a *BANG* a guy uses an axe to hit a chain... or *BEEEEEOOW* a loud train zoomz by on the opening transition, frighting most people with a "oh my". the only "Real" scary part for me, was the tree on a hill... now thats just not funny to even talk about, and i am not joking or being sarcastic, it was just plain pycho. i give it a 7/10 tho it did have its moments. Yours Truly, Eleanor Rigby.

7.5/10 I liked the Japanese version better (8.5/10). But this one was good too, it had an attractive female lead (yummy! Naomi Watts), a very scary atmosphere (this one actually scared me more) and some really cool scenes. To me, the Japanese version lacked those things (except the female lead, she was cool too). But I liked the Japanese version better because I saw it first, the movie was more original and it was way more cleaver. This one is just a remake, I watch it for guilty pleasures, I don't know, The Ring is just a very scary, creepy, intriguing movie that's kind of like a ride. I just felt really good after watching this movie and loved being scared out of my wits. Overall, it's a very entertaining film with kool visual effects, but the Japanese version was more original.

This movie kicked some serious ass! I absolutely love being scared by movies, and I haven't been scared by a movie in a long time. until I saw this movie. There are so many scenes where I jumped (and I do not jump at movies) and after seeing this movie, I don't greatly like my TV any more (or cabins in the woods, or wells, or little girls, or barns, or water, or just about anything!) Definately some majorly disturbing imagery. I saw this movie just a few days after seeing the band Tool live. Definate overload of fucked-up images for one week. The scene with the horse on the ferry was definately unnecessary. I found that after seeing the movie twice and talking about it with my friends, many of the unanswered questions were answered by our discussion. The worst thing was when I left the movie theater and was driving home, I got stuck behind a trailer that had horses in it <<FREAKY!>> (If you've seen the movie, you know what I mean). The way that movie ended, definately original. There was one poin...

The Ring is an overall good movie, there, I said it. It's really creepy, disturbing, what-not, everything you could want from a horror movie. My only problem, my only problem, the end. Wait, what end? SORT OF SPOILER! It doesn't end...nope. Sure doesn't. I like the, "ya' think it's going to end but doesn't", touch. But then again, I like movies to END! END OF SORT OF SPOILER! REAL SPOILER DOWN BELOW: Love the scene where the mother is flashing back saying : "I saw her face", and it shows the girl in the closet. My favorite scene. END O' SPOILER: All in all, The Ring is an enjoyable film. And really scary. Not as good as Signs. But, better than some other stuff this year. This movie is fueled by great performances and scary stuff. Very disturbing, very. I loved Watts in the film. One of her best roles. MANIAC: 7/10

taken directly from my website at moviereviews.cjb.net Aren't you glad that they have DVDs now? In Gore Verbinski's The Ring, viewers of a special videotape of seemingly unrelated shots get a phone call saying "seven days", meaning they have seven days to live. That's right. Mr. Budweiser Frogs and Mr. Mouse Hunt made this movie. Quite a transition. Naomi Watts, fresh from Mulholland Drive, plays skeptic newspaper reporter Rachel Keller. She hears about the videotape at a niece's funeral, and decides to investigate. And what does Ms. Smart do? She watches the tape and she gets the phone call. Oy, she'll regret that. The Ring, put in one word, is scary. It checks off the four ills: chills, thrills, spills, and yes, even a few kills. There are many, many tense scenes and scenes that make you jump (or scream, whichever type you are). I'm the jumping type, but in some parts my mouth was open. That's how scary it was. On the downside of the creepiness, Verbinski made too many jump scenes. If he had conc...

The Ring - 9/10 Warning: I may spoil your movie experience This movie was near perfect. Likely to do to televisions what Psycho did to showers, and what What Lies Beneath did to bathtubs, and.... ah.... you get it. It's disturbing, weird, scary, myseterious, and everything in between. I almost became misled from the opening scene that made me worried it was another goofy slasher (the two teenagers acting stupid and talking about scary shite).. but I soon overcame all that foolishness whenever we learned that the tape is real, and the few people that saw it all died at 10:00 pm the same night.... A-HAAA... now it's more of a mystery. I was not familiar with any of the cast, but I say the lead character and her ex-husband acted extremely well... and that kid's eyes are enough to phuck your mind up. The directing, hahaha...that was the pride of the film. That tape was just as crazy as you were hoping for.... like a terribly terrible acid nightmare... only every aspect of the tape had a part in the story - the m...

But this was easily the closest to scary a movie has been for me. I might sound like im trying to be really 'cool' because im not scared, but this was some freaky shit. ****1/2 I'd say.

Review- well THE RING is certainly a bizarre movie... i just got back from the theater and i`m still a "little" disturbed but not quit as freaked out as i expected. overall the acting is good, the story is pretty solid and the cinematography is impressive but i thought the ending could have been a little more interesting. and at times it was a little slow. but once the story starts picking up it becomes much more intense. and to be honest i didn`t find this movie scary, it`s really more of a mystery with horror elements. but i will say it`s a rather morbid film, those scenes with dead people are pretty strange and will give a wierd feeling inside. but this movie is nothing that will make you jump out of your chair. however, this is not the goal of the movie. it`s more of a "thinking man`s" horror film. Conclusion and Recommendations- overall i like the movie and i would say that it`ll make you think. but keep in mind it`s not one of those 'mindtrip' films like MULHOLLAND DR or MEMENTO tha...

I must say this is one of the best movies I've seen in a while. It wasn't so much scary as it was disturbing. Those images on the tape really stick with you for a few days. But those are the best movies anyway. The ones that get in your head and stick there instead of the ones that give you a jump for a moment in the theater and then you go home. I'll definately be watching the original. My local rental place just got it. I'll give this movie 9/10.

Bravo! Nicely done! I wasn't expecting much from The Ring, considering all the trash that Hollywood pumps out, but this movie is high class on the creepy side. You really have to think about everything you see and hear during this movie. Otherwise, you will wonder what the hell is going on. I intend to see The Ring more than once, so I can catch things that I missed the first time around. Naomi Watts did well with her part and I liked her character, but she's not the greatest actress in the world, so she could use some work. I don't think we can honestly compare her to Nicole Kidman (at this point anyway). Martin Henderson was OK, but his character wasn't as memorable as it should have been. The kid was annoying and creepy. Maybe that was the point, but his actions seemed a little "off" to me. I didn't like the chemistry between most of the actors, especially between the kid and Naomi Watts. They seemed more like “little brother and big sister” than “son and mom.” Overall, The Ring stands out from ...

Review-------> 9/10 or A ( may have spoilers ) Going into this movie i was expecting a pretty shity movie to be honest... when it started with the girls talkin in their room about the video i thought to myself. o great another teen slasher movie. But as soon one of them died and i saw her face i got scared and from there on the movie managed to keep me that way. The movie is about a video tape that kills people within seven days and a reporter watchs the video and tries to uncover the mystery. This movie managed to scare the shit out of me. not many movies can do that. kudos to the director and cast. i honestly the though the director would fail because of his previous movies.. but he suprised me with a dark atmosphere and an outstanding story. i highly recomend this movie.

Naomi Watts is a fine actress, who proves herself in this role. Everyone else is solid and really helps this movie gel together. Gore Verbinski directs with style and really really added to the horror of it all. this movie gets a magnificent 10/10 from me.

I went into this movie before i heard anything about, before any hype and any spoilers. So i was definatly suprised, and definatly entertained and scared shitless. The acting was good, the cinematography was excellent as well as the directing. Sweet-ass story to follow which makes for a fun, scary thriller. I suggest it to everone that likes scary movies. First, let me clarify this, Except for this one part (I'll mention it later after the spoil free part), but it was VERY good and suspensful The director (not sure about his name) will make a good director. Not since Donnie Darko has there ever been a film in which EVERY scene contributes to A) The Plot, B) boosting the mood. This is a good thing, no scene feels tacked on the increase the length. As for the twistosity (my new word for twisted-ness) factor, it is more twisted than a all the double helix DNA in your body. During one scene transition, DID ANYONE ELSE NOTICE THIS? AS A SCENE DISSOLVES, YOU SEE A GLIMPSE OF THE RiNG. The images in the tape are the most twisted ever since the music video for Nine Inch Nail's Closer has anything so twisted been seen. Every scene of the tape images will stick in your head like glue, try as you may, you'll NEVER unstick them for a whole week at the least. You're gonna want to climb every ladder that leans against the walls (you'll know what I mean). I give The RiNG th...

8/10 Before I go any further, the first 10 minutes of this film was absolutely horrible and was something out of the modern teen slasher movies that I can't stand. Unfortunately, this horrible beginning sat in my stomach for the next 45 minutes and made me wonder if the film was going to be able to redeem itself. Guess what: it did. This movie was suspensful, very unnerving, very original(for the japanese guy who came up with it), very well directed, well edited, had an awesome score, and was overrall a great movie IF they changed that damn beginning, but it got much much better. A lot have people have been comparing this to THE EXCORSIST(9/10), which was absolutely nothing like this movie except worthy to compare. It had the exact same kind of suspense. I felt the same exact fear I felt when I watched the Excorsist for the first time. The only difference in the Excorsist, they build the suspense more and more until boom they hit you hard in the face, The Ring did the exact same thing, except it did over and...

A warning to the fellas....If you take a honey to see this film, be aware that by the end of the film, you will have fingernail claw marks imbedded into your forearms. This is one scary ass movie. The most frightening of the year(And from what I 've seen, it won't have much competition.). It is inventive, thought provoking, chilling, and brilliant. When they were talking about what would happen when you watch the tape, I was really curious to see what was on it.....Then they showed it. Then I wasn't so sure that I should have watched it. The contents of that tape really is convincing, and will have you wondering as well. There is something about it that is just not right. Then you have the rest of the film to look foward to. A strange, and wholly original plot, superb acting, as well as great directing, lead to one great and horrifying film. Well Done. 9/10

If I can say one thing about this movie, it's that I WAS SCARED! Holy Crap! I went with my friends and we originally were going to see Jackass but as we walked in they announced it was sold out and of course I was pissed. So, we decided to go see "The Ring". I have never been so scared in my life. My friends knew I was the biggest pussy about scary movies and the made me go see it. I didn't know it was going to be that scary. I was so scared I had the hood up to my swearshirt and holding my knees while tears were running down my face. Considering over 4/5 the theartre was like that, I dont feel so bad. There were these kids sitting behind me that were on drugs and they were totally tripping out. I am surprised they didn't go into convusions on the floor. But, when I went home that night someone had to walk me to the door because I live in somewhat hicksville and it looks just like it did in the movie around here. I also had to sleep with my light on. If you wanna hear what I really think of this mo...

"The Ring" is one scary film. Definitely the creepiest in 2002. Right from the start, you you be thinking "I wonder what's on that tape? I'd like to see it." Then You do. And you will wish you hadn't. The morbid images wil linger in your mind long after you have seen the film. And after I left the viewing, I got home to a ringing phone.(You'll understand when you see it) A nerve racking film, that is well written, well acted and very well directed. A must see. RATING9.5/10

The Ring is a dark, disturbing, creepy thrilling mystery with loads of eerie atmosphere and a good solid perfomance by Naomi Watts. She plays Rachel Keller who after attending the funeral of her recently deceased niece (under weird and inexplanable circumstances) tries to discover the mysterious nature of her death and this leads her to a tape...that when you see it you will die in 7 days. The tape is a nightmare filled with disturing imagery of a spooky woman, dead horses, an ominous lighthouse, maggots, a tree on fire etc. Once the tape ends you get a phone call telling you that you have 7 days to live. In horror/thriller films like this so much of the scares and disturbing images come from visions, quick flashes of decrepid women etc. and usually they don't add up to very much. feardotcom a similar film is filled with these scare tactics and they don't add up to anything. In this film those disturbing images do lead to something...also the problem with the other film is the logic, the film just didn't mak...

The Ring **Some minor spoilers throughout** Not very often does a movie come along that affects me this way. Not very often does a movie send chills down my entire body with each new scene. However, The Ring did just that. From the opening shot to the kickass ending my eyes were glued to the screen. I couldn't take my eyes away. Even after the movie was over I still couldn't get The Ring out of my head. I went into The Ring expecting a few thrills and chills, nothing spectacular and came out with a new best movie of the year. It was just that good. The plot itself is already pretty well known. There's a video tape. You watch the video tape and then your phone rings and you are told you have seven days to live. Rachel (Naomi Watts), a journalist, learns of the video tape at her niece's funeral. Apparantly, her niece and three of her niece's friends watched the video ago. From there Rachel decides to crack the mystery of the tape. After finding the tape and watching it, Rachel sets about looking for clues with...

I got to say I really liked The Ring. It makes me want to see the original even more. I’ll have to take back my distaste for remakes, as this was credible. I still don’t like the idea of TCM and Carrie though. I had my doubts about Verbinski and Krueger but they came through to deliver a quality suspense picture filled with the kind of bleak atmosphere I love. The screen was bleak, dark and somber with little let up and the screenplay delivered little to no comedy breaks as well as a multi-layered mystery. Naomi Watts was on again as the heroine who you where always pulling for. On the negative side the kid actor was nothing special, playing the same role as the kid in Signs - wide-eyed and seeming to know everything. Why can’t these kids be normal? Luckily he doesn’t have much screen time. The Ring is a highly recommended movie and another one to add to my DVD collection.
