But, as far as I'm concerned, it's merely a GOOD film. It's NOT great and it certainly DOES NOT DESERVE nominations for Best Picture or Best Director (Jason Reitman?! Give me a fucking break here! What about Tim Burton, Andrew Dominick, David Fincher, Paul Greengrass, etc.?). Jonny Greenwood was absolutely screwed out of a nomination for Best Score. The Academy can say the score was "ineligible" all they want, but Greenwood's score was fucking awesome and it deserved a nom. They really, really suck. No nomination for Nick Cave & Warren Ellis for their AMAZING score for The Assassination of Jesse James... either. They also forgot to nominate Howard Shore's score for Eastern Promises, which I thought was bloodly fantastic. Ruby Dee for Best Supporting Actress for American Gangster -- are you kidding me?! For what?! 4 minutes of screen time?! All I remember is her slapping the shit out of Denzel Washington -- THAT'S IT! They just wasted a nominat... | | Read Entire Entry |

There were some nods that surprised me (Tommy Lee Jones, Laura Linney, Jason Reitman), some that dissapointed me (no love for Hairspray, Zodiac) and some that just made me giddy (Transformers). The man has been nominated for a few Globes and even won it this year, and he doesn't even get an Oscar nomination?!?!?!?! I am outraged!!!!! Big Fish Golden Globe Nominee for "Man of the Hour" = NO Oscar Nom. Dead Man Walking ZERO Noms for either Into the Wild Golden Globe Winner for "Guranteed" and Nominee for Best Original Score = NO Oscar Nom. THE GOOD: -Emile Hirsch's Best Actor snub may be disappointing, but the Academy compensates for nominating Johnny Depp and Tommy Lee Jones (this one sure came out of left field, but 'In the Valley of Elah' would've sunk to mediocrity if it wasn't for him), two of the 5 best leading male performances of 2007. -The Diving Bell and the Butterfly for Best Cinematography & Director. -The remarkable Hal Holbrook getting recognized for Into the Wild. Albeit in a small role, his acting moments were so heartbreaking that he basically stole the whole movie for me. -The love for There Will Be Blood, as mentioned by everyone else. -Atonement's nod (I thought for sure that it wasn't going to make it into the cut) for Best Pic. -Ratatouille had the best screenplay of 2007, glad to see it get in - and I hope to God that it wins in this category. They might as well have given it to Alpha Dog for Sharon Stone's fat suit. I mean seriously, who are they fucking kidding? The acting noms are pretty much spot on. I am pleased with the Best Picture pics. There were others I'd like to have seen get nominated, but each of the noms is in my top 10 of the year, so I can't complain. No Lust, Caution for Best Foreign Language Film? Does it have something to do with the NC-17? But Norbit? It's not unheard of, according to Shakespeare in Love trivia section: Quote: Judi Dench won an Academy Award for her role as Queen Elizabeth, although she is on-screen for only about eight minutes in four scenes. This is the second-shortest performance to win a Best Actress Oscar. The shortest ever performance was by Beatrice Straight in Network (1976), as she appeared in only six minutes of the film. I remember her slap to Denzel's face, that's about it... - Jesse James got two nom's which is fantastic, but not giving it the score nomination is completely ridiculous - Into the Wild didn't deserve the snubbing, replace it with Juno and you got a great best picture line up. | | Static Link |
