Roland Emmerich films are always unintentional laugh riots so Parker & Stone riffing on that level of monumental cinematic stupidity would have been priceless. | | Static Link |

This is, essentially, a politically concious, riotously offensive comedy version of Thunderbirds. The story is simple Team America recruit Broadway actor Gary to infiltrate a group of terrorists they believe have weapons of mass destruction, meanwhile Korean dictator Kim Jong Il plans to use WMD to take over the world. Into this mix comes the Film Actors Guild (yep, that's the level of humour here) led by Alec Baldwin (one of the few voices impersonated rather well) who help Kim Jong Il host his 'peace conference'. Like The South Park movie Team America is a musical and most of the songs hit their mark. Notables include the hysterical "Pearl Harbour sucked and I miss you" and Kim Jong Il's "I'm So Ronery" The satire is blunted by a scattershot approach. South Park aimed for its target (Censorship) and skewered it perfectly. Team America doesn't know wha... | | Read Entire Entry |

| Posted by: Potzer! 37 at January 12, 2005, 9:49 pm | | Topic: Reviews: Team America: World Police Forum: JoBlo | | I enjoyed this film very much. That said, it lacked alot. In my opinion, the best thing about was the sound track. Songs like Pearl Harbor Sucked, and America Fuck Yeah! were fucking awasom. The puppet angle was just over worked for me. The first time the joke played I was in tears (SPOILER ALERT)-When the terririts and a Team America Member fight, they can't really fight, so they just run at each other, and wiggle(END SPOLIER) Fucking brillant. However, after that the puppet angle was over worked. I guess the biggest this about this movie was the distraction of the puppets from the plot/and jokes. With real actors, this movie would have been even better, however (SPOILER ALERT) the bit with the black cat (PANTHERS) was funny as well(END SPOILER) I would have rather lost that joke and seen more from the story. Still, this movie allows for catch phrases (MATT DAMEON!) speeches (THERE ARE DICKS, PUSSIES, AND ASSHOLES IN THIS WORLD...), and memorable lyrics, (AMERICA...FUCK YEAH! Apart from the celebrity jokes, the "American" way of handling war and just how 'materialistic' and 'hearless' we can be as a country that the film addressed I also loved the songs--My favorites being "Everyone's god Aids" and "Pearl Harbour Sucks"--a great song, and a good point on an entirely different level that does have to say about the culture of America, being 'patriotic' and all, but at the same time it kind of takes away from the message and puts the focus on how horrible "Hollywood" cinema can be. It seemed like t... | | Read Entire Entry |

Off to be as offensive as possible without any apparent reason. People should know by now how Director/Writer/Actor Trey Parker and Writer/Actor Matt Stone think. And yet, I'm still amazed at how easily old women are lured into the theater to see a movie of theirs. So, I check the time of my watch. The old women who sat in front of me left not 3 minutes into the film. May I ask, what are people expecting when they go to see a film like this? Vulgarity should be at the top of the list. But honestly, this film is creative, featuring an ensemble of puppets that occupy a world of models, small transport vehicles, and cats that act as panthers. All this is an obvious attempt at humor, and it works most of the time. It's in the acting, plot, and structure where the film sags. Team America is a group of terrorist fighters with planes, rockets, jets, jeeps, etc. led by Spottswoode (voice by Daran Norris) who have their base in Mount Rushmore. They are called out... | | Read Entire Entry |

I approached this movie the way I think all should, not expecting South Park but the comedy stylings of Parker and Stone. I pretty much laughed all they way through and came out of the theatre singing those hilarious songs (in my head ofourse). There were definately points in the movie where the comedy started to level out but just as it did you were hit hard with something undone and hilarious. Don't look to deep into this movie. If your having concerns with the political approach of the movie then you probaly shouldn't be watching it. It's a comedy...laugh! Not once did I feel uncomfortable in our theatres crappy seats which tells me the movie was worth going to see in its own right. Yes, good times were had by all. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: TheSharpshooter at November 1, 2004, 10:59 pm | | Topic: Reviews: Team America: World Police Forum: JoBlo | | One of the funniest movies of the year is Parker & Stone's lastest creation. They don't take either side of the war/terrisom, they just make fun of it & some of the idiot celebrities as well. While a bit skeptical with the use of puppets, I knew I owed it to Matt & Trey to see it; and thank god I did. I really wish I could tell you all the funny stuff that happens, but that would ruin it for you. Every scene is outrageous and every joke is gut-busting. Once again, there are many songs, and I promise that you will be singing them in your head the rest of the day. And unlike South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut; Team America is funny for all ages. The Final Shot - Roger Ebert, your a dumbass & your opinion sucks. 5/5 | | Static Link |

A hybrid between political satire and action movie parody, this raunchy movie from South Park creators Matt Stone & Trey Parker should have you wetting your pants. Although it's not quite as funny as South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, its laughs are still often enough to give the movie momentum. Featuring one of the best action themes of all time, a lament of an evil dictator, and a puppet Alec Baldwin (warning: The real Alec Baldwin does not condone the actions of the puppet one). All in all, it's a fun fare, just don't go if your opinions are easily offended... Team America: 8/10 America, FUCK YEAH! (Sorry, couldn't resist) | | Static Link |
| Posted by: jeo4 at October 18, 2004, 3:37 pm | | Topic: Reviews: Team America: World Police Forum: JoBlo | | I had the opportunity to see TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE this weekend. In a year where campaign rhetoric and hostilities between political parties are both annoyingly high, this film is a breath of fresh air. The story is one that never takes itself too seriously and everyone in the world today is fair game. The story revolves around the team of anti-terrorism specialists, who combat anyone with malicious intent and a penchant for WMD's. That means that Kim Jong Il and just about everyone in the Middle-East are targets, along with several innocent bystanders. Jetting off to exotic locations around the world (and in many cases leveling them), Team America kicks dust in the face of terrorist bullies while knocking several monuments to the ground. When all is said and done, Paris and is down for the count. But at least the bad guys are dead! Jetting off to their headquarters inside the Washington head at Mount Rushmore, Team America has to regroup and prepare for a covert mission, where new guy Gary has to act l... | | Read Entire Entry |

| Posted by: bigred760 at October 18, 2004, 12:05 pm | | Topic: Reviews: Team America: World Police Forum: JoBlo | | This movie was very funny . . . at times. Other times, it just tried too hard to be controversial, gross, or anything to piss off somebody famous. But for the most part, I had a great time watching this flick. I wasn't expecting much, especially on the serious front, just to be entertained by puppets with a story from the people that do South Park, a show which I love. And I was entertained. Everything, from puppets blowing shit up, puppets having raunchy sex (makes me wonder what they took out to avoid a NC-17 rating - gotta wait for the DVD), Kim Jong Il being evil (hilarious), and the kickass songs that are thrown throughout the movie, had me laughing through most of the movie. I gotta say that some of the FX in the flick were kinda cool; I've never seen a puppet actually bleed before. And the sets, from Paris to Egypt, were very impressive. So it's not like the makers of this flick went into this thing half-assed or anything, they set out to make a funny, raunchy, and different kind of movie. They succee... | | Read Entire Entry |

You guys are awesome. This movie seriously rocks. The jokes in this movie come fast and hard. They range from potty humor to political satire to visual gags involving the puppets to sexual jokes and everything in between. Most of them do get some genuine laughs, and some will have you laughing for minutes after the joke is already over, but some do fall flat. Not many though. Also noteworthy are the songs. These guys always have hilarious songs in their movies and this one is no exception. You'll be singing "America, Fuck Yeah" all day. And other songs like "Everybody Has AIDS", "Freedoom Isn't Free", "I'm so Ronery", and "Pearl Harbor Sucked Almost As Much As I Miss You" are all incredibely funny. The movie also looks very good visually. The puppets are all very detailed as are their surrounding which include a lair in Mt. Rushmore, Paris, Times Square and many other place. It seems like cursing and toilet humor...which it is on top. What people don't recognize is that this movie has alot of intelligent humor also. Made to resemble the Thunderbirds cartoon of yesteryear Team America boasts great looking puppets and extremely elaborate sets. It's a satire on the state of the world today as well as many action movies past. Trey Parker and Matt Stone do an excellent job in making fun of almost everyone without actually taking a side. Alot of people (Sean Penn) have bashed Team America. Not for making fun of him, but for making light of terrorism. Terrorism is not a laughing matter he says. I agree, and I'm sure Parker and Stone agree as well. However their job is to make people laugh. Terrorism is fueled by fear. When we are afraid is when the terrorists are doing their job well. If there were no humor in the world we would be much easier targets for terror. Not being able to laugh we would be constantly stressing over things nev... | | Read Entire Entry |

Now before you get all disapointed let me say that the movie none-the-less was still pretty damn funny. I'd say a solid laugh every 20-30 seconds. It just did not live up to South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut (10/10) in my mind. So before I go into detail, let me reiterate: DO NOT GO INTO THIS FILM EXPECTING ANYTHING SIMILAR TO SOUTH PARK. I'd say about 40% of the movie's humor lies on the puppet factor. Puppets will do something funny since puppets can't move like real people, we got that joke. That was what didn't do it for me. I want the humor to be COMPLETLY dependent on material, not the fact that puppets walk funny. Next, the actual message. This was the best part of the movie. Past all the toliet humor (damn funny) and the puppet humor (got pretty old) the whole terrorism message was stelar. I loved the poking fun at celebrities and the constant ridicule of everything fucked up that has gone down in our currect political situatio... | | Read Entire Entry |
