Curiously absorbing considering how detestable and/or aggravating almost every character is. The ending was irritating though. Regardless of whether or not it meant anything or had a "point", it just sort of rubbed me the wrong way. Though I really liked everything leading up to that final cut. And yeah, what did ever happen to James Van Der Beek? I can't think of anything he's done since Rules. All things considered, he was pretty solid in this movie. | | Static Link |

A lot of people hate the film for that reason, like my cousin who said, "Didn't you find the film superficial?" And I told her, "Well, yeah, that's the point of the film. I mean seriously, we get an amazing Ellis novel adapted by screenwriter Roger Avary (Pulp Fiction, Silent Hill) in one of the most original films this decade! And seemingly no one from this film has been picked up to do anything else. Van Der Beek's performance as the cold and sadistic Sean Bateman is enough to carry the film on its own. Then we get the gorgeous Shannyn Sossamon and brilliant supporting acts from Ian Somerhalder and Russel Sams. Fresh new talent rotting away in dead end television roles, come on hollywood!
