while nothing compared to the original, i liked the remake to an extent, what there was as far as characters go was alright, nobody i really cared about and in the end i was hoping for them all to get ripped apart. the few scenes of gore that i remember were quite well executed but they overused CGI throughout the film, the CGI baby had me laughing a lot. the other main problem was the ending, which was very predictable there was one scene that i loved and what was when they get into the reinforced buses and one of the guys throws that huge bomb into the zombies surrounding them resulting in a lovely big explosion overall, not at all scary, not even a little bit creepy, nothing compared to many other zombie films but still it was very fun at times 7/10

I'll be honest--I really didn't enjoy the original (1978) that much-- With that said, I actually did like the remake better, but not by much. The script is okay, not giving us much character development. The score was kind of creepy, and I loved the make-up job, though the acting was soap-opera-ish sometimes but what can you do with a horror script like this. I didn't really relate with any of the characters so that was one thing hindering this film. I did like Kevin Z's or whatever's character. I did like the ending however but that "OOh WA ah ah ah" Monkey song by Disturbed ruined it. I'm sorry but I'm one of those people that watch the credits and the CREDITS take a part of my rating, and picking a better song would have been more helpful. Overall, the movie was decent and forgetable. Doesn't stack up to "28 Days Later" or "The Omega Man." 5/10 (C) but better than the original "Dawn of the Dead" (1978) 5/10 (C) "28 Days Later" 9/10 (A-)

I've never seen the original but LOVED the remake!! One of the best horror films to come along in a long time. The first 10 minutes or so were awesome....pretty freaky....the whole movie had a sense of dread...like sooner or later, they WILL get you. Loved all of the the cast, especially Sarah Polley, Ving Rames, Jake Webber and Mekhi Pfeiffer. The zombies were freaky and loved how they were vicious and moved fast....unlike other movies. Lots of memorable and unforgettable scary scenes... Well done film... will probably stay with me for a long time. 9/10

<SPOILERS> Dawn of the Dead '04=meh. i can't say it enough: i was incredibly indifferent to this movie. Some of Darchangel's Reasons for thinking DOTD '04=meh: -the characters (main ones included) don't make me care enough about them to want them to live -Jo's review said it before and i'll say it here now: why the fuck can't the zombies break out the fucking glass doors to the mall? - Sarah Polley (Ana)'s acting was sub-par at best..the only good actors in the movie (IMO) were Ving Rhames (Kenneth), Ty Burrell (Steve) and the guys who played CJ and Nicole's dad (can't remember their names)...you'll notice they were all underused. - the gaps in logic and plotholes that i've mentioned in other DOTD '04 threads make my head want to explode - Luda's character was less than one-dimensional: ooh, look at how pregnant i am...all i do is touch my pregnant stomach and have to pee and look at baby clothes because that's apparently all pregnant women ever do! <rolls eyes> - the character of Nicole made me ...

So here goes my review: (this is of the "unrated directors cut version") Arrow claims this version is far superior to the original. The version I saw was medeocre at best, so my question is... how bad was the original? Aside from the fact that 2000-beyond horror remakes suck (fuck you Michael Bay) the movie was a pretty dim-witted, simple minded, one-trick-pony that really as Joblo said, had steam at the begining and end. Great set-up at the begining. I loved how Zach Snyder (director) moved us right into the zombie mayhem and dare I say, the begining gives us a little bit of hope more so than the original. Instead of a slow 40 ish minute intro, we get right into the down and dirty... SWEET! The minute they get into the mall, everything goes downhill. Concitering how little to nothing hap...

I'm going to be honest. This film did nothing for me. Nothing whatsoever. But that's not to say I didn't enjoy it on some cheesy level. I felt a bit disappointed because of all the good reviews I've heard. The acting is pretty solid, thankfully. I was rooting for most of the players the whole time. The zombies were creepy as hell here. Yikes. Unfortunately, those are about the only things I found of interest in this film. I'm torn. I've seen better, but I've seen far worse. I'll hafta check it out a second time. But as it stands now, 5/10.

Review: 9.5/10 {SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!} After days on wanting to see this movie, i finally got a chance to see this shit by myself. What was even better, was that i was the only guy in this theater watching the movie, having no dumbass jokes or things said out loud, just glued to the movie screen! Now, was this movie better than the remake....close but no. But is it a good zombie flick, you bet your fucking ass it is!!!!!!!! Having seen this remakes trailer and hearing the negative fedback on how this movuie shouldnt be remade, i took it upon myself to buy the original and see why this remake is getting a bad rap. Well, having watching and loving the original {10/10}, i still wasnt bothered by this remake being made. So once the movie start and the shit hit the fan, i was motionless in my chair!!! All the characters were great, Sarah Polley was great as the inconnent heroine in this hellish world. Ving Rhames was the "Peter" of this remake, looking and acting like a badass....

Quite an intensive horror film, which I am more than willing to be seeing again very soon, as well as including into my personal "Living Dead Collection" once the unrated DVD arrives. Yes, of course the first ten minutes are quite intensive, and hold great impact in keeping people on the edge of their seats. Very creative way to draw people into the film, and then pause for credits, while showing some brief news footage about the events happening. The film then begins to slow down slightly, as the protagonists reach the mall. What then begins, is some inside Romero-ish tension between the healthy humans on the inside, while the enemy ghouls remain on the outside. (For the most part!) Of course, things mull themselves over somewhat and the people briefly enjoy ecstacy inside the confines of the shopping mall, but here is where I really do wish that the film drug itself out more. We are of course trapped in a shopping mall and not an abandoned farm house, or missile silo. The thought process for most...

Dawn of the Dead: 9/10 **Spoilers Galore** Wow! What a fucking good movie! I haven't been this excited since Kill Bill (10/10). I feel a little ashamed of myself, because I enjoyed this a little more then the orginal 79' version. I hate it when people loved The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 04', but didn't like the orginal. I absoluetly hate the 04' version, so I was pretty pumped up going to see Dawn of the Dead. The opening credits were awesome! I was glued to the screen every minute. After the little girl bit the husband's neck, I knew I was in a real treat. I loved the camera angle on her car, when Ana (Sarah Polly) was driving around watching all the horror around her. When her neighbor got hit by the ambulance, I was shocked. Just like I was in Final Destination when one of the character's met their fate like that. Then the story get's started when she meets Ving Rhames, and the rest of the gang as they head to the mall. There they meet the guards, which start out mean, but turn into nice guys towards the en...

IN SHORT:A horror flic with a big sense of humor THE GOOD:I have fond memories of watching horror flics late at night.Wondering who in the ensemble would get picked off by the monster or monsters.FUN FUN FUN .And thats what we get with Dawn of the Dead. The tough guy(Ving Rhames) the strong willed woman(Sarah Polly),the strong willed guy( Jake Weber) The horny people, the old timer, the young couple, and the new family, and a jerkoff.True their are many horrific scenes but most are handled with a slick sense of humor i found myself laughing and cringing at the same time .I loved the rooftop chess game, and The lets shoot a stark look alike Zombie game .Some scenes were so incredible to see especially the escape from the mall.I know some thought the mall scenes went on to long but im glad we are given time to get to know the characters a bit and i loved the ending and the fun during the closing credits even non head bangers were rocking out in the theatre .Like i said FUN FUN FUN!!! THE BAD:The film lacks that feel...

....This was a decent Zombie flick. I wasn't scared, I was entertained though. The rooftop scenes were my favorite scenes in the movie because they were so creative and funny. But back to the horror, it wasn't scary. Hell at some times it was boring. But the last 10 minutes kicked ass. 7/10

A remake of the horror cult classic Dawn of the Dead, a mysterious plague causes the newly dead to rise from their graves and begin to eat the living in this horror remake. During the zombie chaos, a group of humans hide out in a shopping mall. I came into the theater expecting to be entertained, and that was exactly what I got. Dawn of the Dead was a highly entertaining zombie film and it was probably the best one I have ever seen, but that isn't saying a whole lot since zombie films are probably my least favorite horror genre. Dawn of the Dead however, was a very entertaining movie to add to the zombie genre but compared to other horror films, it's not one of the great ones because of the many character flaws. Okay, let's start with the great stuff, the thing that stuck out the most in this film was the camera angles, this movie had the best camera angles I have ever seen in a movie, they were so awesome, that the angles were entertainment in itself. There was this scene where the survivors were trying to ...

7/10 Pretty good horror flick. I agree with many of you in that the opening scene was pretty unsettling. I wasn't scared, but I was entertained and I can't say that about a lot of horror movies lately. I don't think they should have shown the "zombie baby" and I found it hard to believe that a zombie would have the smarts enough to hold up a sign. Other than that...I had a blast.

*I will try to keep the spoilers at a minimum. I won't mention who lives or dies regarding the main characters, and I won't give away the ending or major plot points. Anything I tell you, you figure out easily after being introduced to all of the characters.* I will not rate this movie based on how true it is compared to the original. Any comparisons I make are just stating the differences. I also will rate this under my criteria for a horror movie: Opening/Ending, Tension, Relief, Coherence and logic, and violence: Opening/Ending: 10/10 The opening and ending are very satisfying. The pre-credits prologue introduces us to Sarah Polley's character. A likeable nurse, who is thrown into hell minutes after the start of the movie. Its amazing to see a quiet and peaceful suburban town thrown into a zombie infested nightmare in minutes. The ending is also satisfying, and although it isn't advertised, the movie comes with two endings. By that I mean, you can choose whether or not you want a hopeful conclusion, or th...

Plot/Synopsis When there is no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth. A rag tag bunch from all different backgrounds secure themselves within a shopping mall in order to escape a ravaging horde of seemingly undead humans whose only desire is to kill and consume other humans. The zombies can only be neutralized through a traumatic blow to the head. Traditional post-apocalyptic struggles ensue. Critique and analysis **Warning – Spoilers** I got to see a sneak preview screening of Dawn of the Dead last night. This movie is bad-ass and I mean bad in a good way. So much possibility existed for this movie to suck, over-excessive CG, shitty editing, poor direction, half ass acting and my worst fear of all, too much liberty taken with the original premise of the story. The 1978 original stands out in my mind as the pinnacle of zombie movies. I’m a fan of the horror genre, but I prefer my horror on the semi-supernatural side. Some jerk-off with an axe can be run away from, run over with a car, etc etc etc. ...
