Tom's acting is better but still a disapointment I agree with this dude. I hated this movie and I am a big liker of Spielberg and Cruise. I wanted the teenage son to die. I hated Dakota's character. Too many of these type of kids running around America who need a slap in the face. Amazingly, the only unharmed street in was where the mom was. The story was weak and I understand it is based on the book and first movie. I wish they would have improved on the story from the book. Reminded me of an Alien verson of Jurassic Park. 5/10 | | Static Link |

The only thing that I did not like was the fate of his son, who before the finish was last seen running up and over a hill. Everything and everyone that went over said hill was basically napalmed, yet the son appears in Boston ahead of his father and sister. Not only that, but he showed absolutely no signs of having been so much as burned by the heat of the blaze. That really is my only gripe with the film, otherwise it started, fleshed out, and ended wonderfully. | | Static Link |

Although a part of me would've liked it to have been set in early 20th century London, like the book. That would have been fascinating. Anyways, it deserved the Oscar for sound F/X, one of the best mixes Ive heard in years. | | Static Link |

I will always be a fan of Cruise although he's a nut job and I think he gives a pretty good performance here. One of his better recently. The cgi is some of the best in any movie and that first tripod scene is intense as hell. It gave me chills the first time I saw it. Speilberg knows how build some serious tension. | | Static Link |

So what your saying is that movie can still be excellent if half of the movie sucks. Especially the half that's supposed to have the climax, revelation, etc. Every great Spielberg movie was awesome all the way thru...imagine if half of Jaws was lame.. The whole damn movie was great, start to finish....War of the Worlds was not even half way great, it sucked thru most of it. Spielberg WAS a great director, but dude forgot how to make a consistent, great movie. That's how I feel about him at this time. | | Static Link |

When I left the theatre on this one, my attitude was that of "eh". I love Dakota Fanning though, but as many people have stated: In this movie, she just screams a lot. BUT I believe that she DID do her job. As a little girl her age WOULD fucking scream a lot, if this were to be a happening scenario in the real world. So I can't fault her for that. | | Static Link |

I don't understand all the hate (the last half was weak but everything that came before that more than makes up for it IMO.) It's just a very exciting film with a few big scares. | | Static Link |

I also have the War of the World game for playstation, which is also great entertainment but canīt be the spielberg film. I am not usually a tom cruise fan but agreed in this he plays Ray Ferrier well. | | Static Link |

What could've been a masterpiece turned out to be a half ass attempt at science fiction mastery. Like u pointed out, scenes dragged along as we follow the uninteresting characters through the apocalypse they never expected. Can't believe Spielberg didn't deliver a knock out blow with what the story revolved around....but ever since AI, dude has fallen off....Crystal Skull was wack as fuck as well. But the Trailer was pretty good as was the sound efx, but the film as a whole was so anti climatic and so dull within its thin script and effort that its hardley memorable for me. 5/10 for me. Could've been, should've been.......its a damn shame what they did to that dog. | | Static Link |

This film has a great cast, for starters. Tom Cruise will always be known as one of the greatest actors of all time. He has a very powerful performance in this film, and this is one of his best roles yet. Also, Dakota Fanning is in this. Although, very young, she is a very talented actress with a lot of potential, and I hope she keeps acting as she gets older. If you have seen most of Spielberg's films, you will notice that a lot of them represent a feel of the Holocaust in some way. This is one of those films. "How?", you ask? It's very simple: there is a race of beings (A.K.A. the aliens) trying to completely wipe out another race of beings (A.K.A. the humans). Does that answer your question? I read the H.G. Wells book in middle school, and I lost intrest very quickly. It was frightening, but it did'nt keep ... | | Read Entire Entry |
