Forum: JoBlo | | But that scene in Mothman prophecies is based off the actual event, it would be like spoiling Titanic, The Alamo, Pearl Harbor or Passion of the Christ believe me its not much of spoiler. I think ill borrow from the very same movie. *spoilers ahead* When we see the Mothman for the first and only time it was pretty startling, I didnt expect it and it was quick. I also think most of the first hand accounts he is told to by people who seen the creature and the flashbacks to their encounters were real scary too. *end spoiler* Didnt they base the Creeper off the Mothman? | | Static Link |

Anyway, I'm using the word "scare" loosely here. Define it how you want. But another creepy ass scene was in The Grudge when the ghost girl came out from under the blankets the woman was hiding under. Jesus fucking Christ that was scary. Forum: JoBlo | | Is there a difference between being scared, and just being completely creeped out? Movies with ghosts just creep me out for some reason, and I don't mean the Poltergeist type where you can see the ghosts...I mean the ghosts that are just there but never appear. Perhaps they appear as wind or something, but other than that you don't see them. I remember The Sixth Sense and The Watcher In the Woods (yeah I was a youngin) just completely creeping me out. As for being scared...I do have a home movie, and man my gut is scary. | | Static Link |

Forum: JoBlo | | ****POSSIBLE SPOILERS**** I agree with those who said the "JUMP" scares aren't that scary...it's more "startling" but I won't remember it later. It's the stuff that rings as true and you know if it was you in that scene you would have been victimized too. (that sentence really rhymed) I just saw The Exorcism of Emily Rose for the first time this past weekend. The scene of first possession was very, very creepy. Great movie too. The original The Exorcist scared me back in my youth...but after seeing it again a few years ago, the special effects are too campy and dated to look real...although someone did mention the part that creeped me the most when you see the demon faintly... | | Static Link |

Don't bitch and moan because you can't catch up to films that old. By the way, Norman Bates is the actual killer in Psycho, Jigsaw is the body on the floor in Saw, The planet in Planet of the Apes is actually earth in the future etc. Damn did I just ruin those brand spankin' new movies for you? | | Static Link |

Damn it! I guess I don't have to watch Scream now! The music scares me. When I was a kid my family would always watch horror movies, but I could never watch them. I would just really carried away with the stories and would imagine all sorts of shit that was never shown in the movie. The only way I could do it was to watch the movie with no sound or covering my ears when the music got really loud or creepy. Forum: JoBlo | | Upon relooking at the pictures I posted for scenes from movies that scared me and thinking on it, I think the thing that scares me is definitely not subtlety. It's not scary to me to not see the event as much as it's scary to me to see it. To see the girl get pulled down in the water, to see the boy get pulled into his beat and turned into a fountain of blood, to see the creature burst out of a person's stomach. I'm scared by seeing rather than not seeing. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: KcMsterpce at July 13, 2008, 2:15 pm | | Topic: What is it that scares you in a movie? - SPOILER ALERT! Forum: JoBlo | | A couple months ago, I thought about movies that scared me, and WHY I got scared. I realized that what scares me the most is NOT SEEING EVERYTHING. The mystery of whatever is causing the haunts or murders - whatever - is what freaks me out the most. You can't size up something you can't see. THE OTHERS scared me - until it got stupid at the end (when you know what's going on). THE THING - You don't know who's a Thing or not. Constant fear! JEEPERS CREEPERS - I was creeped out until the Creeper is shown in full view. Then, the movie fucking blows. SIGNS - The pantry scene was an exercise in freakishness. JAWS - Even after seeing the shark, you still don't know where it's going to come from. The deep blue sea is full of mysteries, and so that's a lot of what made this movie work. ALIEN - Scary. When it is in full view, it's not as scary, but still fucking awesome. So, what works for me is when the terror is coming from something that I can't rightly SEE and I can't make a physical assessment of it. | | Static Link |
