Well we ARE talking bout WB the studio that ruin Batman and safe face by rebooting Batman with Nolan at helm. Im a Potter fan but seeing how dissapointed i was over GOF and to a lesser extend OOTP...WB thinking just because TDK made huge amount of $$ over that weekend doesnt translate to HBP...probably not even close...that just greediness..oh well whatever. im hoping and praying that Yate learn from OOTP and makes HBP 10x better. i dont even want to see anything related to HBP until an official trailer comes out cause that way ill know.

Wow! Lots of people really angry about this. I, myself, am surprised by the decision, but I'm really not bothered. I never liked HP (though I love many of the cast members), but I understand the frustration. If New Line had done something similar with LOTR, I'd feel the same way. I wonder how much this will shake up the fall release schedule, now that there's a big gaping void in it.

I know it has been said many times before I've even posted, but yeah, this is BULLSHIT! Damnit, it was only months away- and I was excited at how loaded November was gonna be with both Bond and Potter in theaters. Well, at least Bond is staying and I'll probably see that twice now. Anyway, I guess it was a "buisness decision", but really, does it matter when and where the next Harry Potter film is released?! Like CyclicNightmare once said (more or less), if the next Potter flick was released in only limited theaters in Alaska, people would flock to see it and it would still take in flood of cash. Anyway, it kind of pisses me off that WB is being so fucking greedy over what will probably be only a 10 million dollar difference, if that, in intake.

Apparently, the changing of the release date idea hadn't even been brought up until TODAY, and not all Warner associates were told before the decision was made. I smell a lot of trouble.

And also with the film being finished already, that's nearly a guarantee that there will be a screener released well before July, perhaps even in the winter months. It's not often that a film completed before the winter months, regardless of its release date, doesn't get a company copy stolen sometime during the holiday season. Warner definitely fucked up... big time. If they had any brains they would change the release date back to November. They're going to face so many angry fans, petitions, boycotts, and controversy. It's going to be one giant headache.

I hope the extra money they make outweighs the interest they will lose by waiting. The only thing that makes this a little bit smart is the economy will hopefully be better next year, which will carry over to the dvd sales Xmas 09. I still say they have a built in $275-$300 mil depending on quality and waiting is a pointless move.

That push all but seals the deal for Quantom of Solace to be the biggest holiday blockbuster. WB really screwed the pooch on this one. Didn't WB learn from the last Harry Potter that the franchise performs a lot better in the winter than over the summer... Just look at the Narnia franchise... Oy... Sometimes I wonder about who's making the decisions. They have been doing a summer/fall rotation since the beginning and now they are jaded by money. It has finally happened and the WB is now ruining Harry Potter.

it isn't money... got this from ropeofsilicon http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/article..._to_july_2009/ So far the two Potter films released in summer earned $292,004,738 for Order of the Phoenix and Prisoner of Azkaban brought in $249,541,069. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone made $317,575,550, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets made $261,988,482 and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire made $290,013,036 all in November. The numbers are close enough that it appears it doesn't matter when a Potter film is released, the numbers are still the same so perhaps it is a move for quality as opposed to greed, which I am sure many fans will assume.

This fucking sucks. It is going to make around $300 no matter when it comes out. It is not going to make more, because of when it comes out. Harry Potter has a following and this change will not make them happy. I for one will wait unitl the 3rd day to see the movie now. So there. My only hope is that they saw how shitty 5 was and noticed a trend and they decided to re work it a bit and give us a better movie. And this movie better rock.

This is complete bullshit...3 months before it premiered?? Right after we get the trailer?? It was gonna make a ton of money anyway...it'll just face more competition in the middle of the summer. Even though I'm really looking forward to this, I kinda would like to see the money intake drop because of this bullshit move. I'm not a complete nut over HP or anything...but I couldn't imagine back in April hearing that The Dark Knight got pushed back 8 months...

It wouldn't be so bad if they released the Prince in the summer, then in early November releast part 1 then mid December part 2. They would have a lot of money coming in next year. Plus, if the movies are created strongly, you will have the momentum for huge money instead of it dying down.

I hate it when they put out Harry Potter films in the summer. They never have the summer popcorn movie feel to them. They are much better suited for the holiday season. Not only that, but a movie has been promised to us, we have patiently waited and now you push it back 8 months... thats just a wrong thing to do to your fanbase.

Saw the trailer. EXCELLENT. Man, this is getting me even more excited. And I thought that Order of the Phoenix looked, dark, brooding and serious. This totally blows it out of the water! Step-by-step, Yates and crew are taking Harry Potter down the more Christopher Nolan-Batman/Bryan Singer-X-Men route by making the world more and more realistic, and the shooting style as well. The film looks excellent, and I'm stoked as ever. Isn't it great that young Tom Riddle is played by Ralph Fiennes' nephew? I can definitely see the similarity... Can't wait for more!

I just checked out the trailer for this... and I was really surprised at how good it was. The brief glimpses of the cave scene were pretty awesome, and the overall look of the film seem to be perfect. Perfectly dark. Great. Im glad they havent tried too hard to appeal to kids, and left the story alone (for the most part). The half blood prince was one of my favorite books of the series, and hopefully will be just as good of a movie. I didn't anticipate my excitement for this film, but the trailer has spiked it.

Welcome to the boards Lord Voldemort I agree that Richard Harris was great but I cannot picture him portraying the Dumbledore we see in the later films (particularly the Voldemort duel and the cave sequence onwards.) Michael Gambon is not flawless by any means but there's a lot about the way he portrays the character that I appreciate; his quirkiness in Prisoner of Azkaban, his speech to Harry at the end of both Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix and sometimes just his mannerisms remind me of Book Dumbledore. His loud outbursts are what drive me crazy though. I really do hope they release extended editions someday as well. There's plenty of footage that could be inserted into the film (the last film was noted to be over 3 hours in length and yet there's only ten minutes of deleted scenes on the DVD.) Here's hoping...

It never made sense to me that they didn't shoot these like Lord of the Rings. I don't mean all at once. I mean shoot all (or most) of the book, then cut it down for the theatrical. And then a few months later, release the extended versions on DVD, in addition to the theatrical versions of course.
