Whatever) Forum: JoBlo | | I didn't find the character sexy, nor did i ever really find her sexy in any role. I love Closer, but i think Portman is the weakest link, i thought she played Alice (or whatever her name is) very forecefully, and unsubtlely (the 'just take the picture' delivery when she cries was hard t owatch it was so forced). oh well. | | Static Link |

I couldn't stand either of the female characters in this movie, least of all Julia Roberts. The film in general is one of my favorites in the last few years. 8/10 | | Static Link |

I loved Owen in Closer... everyone says they hated all of these characters, but honestly, there's nothing I love more than a delusional, slippery, selfish, self-destructive character searching for love, thinking they have it, or having it and ruining it. He was a straight badass. And just to add to you're quote because I love that part: Owen: "Do you enjoy sucking him off?" Roberts: "Yes!" Owen: "You like his cock?" Roberts: "I love it!" So I should probably rephrase what I said to being that her deceit gradually became focused to a more precise instrument instead of a defensive habit that kept that protective shell around her. Oh wait, there was that one stripper. Nevermind. But you get my point. Aside from the notion that she showed her cunt and arsehole to complete fucking strangers (wonderfully worded, I must say), I think it was her character's playful nature and enigmatic appeal that made her sexy, not necessarily her eventual actions, or the ends to which those games played out. In Simpsons terminology, we call this The Milk Dud Effect. But then, she WAS fucked over by Dan halfway through, big time, so she earns a certain level of latitude. People get hurt like that, and that emboldens some people to do vengeful or spiteful things in return after their shell has been hardened by those experiences. Portman turned into quite the little deceitful Ice Queen in the end, but I at least understand how she got there. This is one of those few movies that really delve deep into the issue of and importance of trust in a relationship, and the ugly consequences if said truth is b... | | Read Entire Entry |

I mean damn...... But as for her character and the others yeah they were mostly sleezy in one fashion or another, not especially likeable, but Portman looked damn fine through most of that movie. | | Static Link |

Not to say that it detracted from the film, but they're definitely not the sort of people that I'd choose to be closely involved with knowing their ugly truths. Natalie's character I found to be just dense. I found it hard to have any sympathy for her. I can see where Natalie's character would be physically sexy, but other than that? Nah. Whatever) Forum: JoBlo | | I'm going to start this off by saying: I'm a Portman fan, especially in this role. But I don't understand how this was a sexy role. Was it because "Alice" was a stripper? Or was it because it was Natalie Portman in the role? Bitch was crazy! How long had she known the other characters under her alias? I wonder if they had shown Dan (Jude Law, natch) later on that day after the big reveal would he have gotten into a tub full of Purell and other assorted sanitizers? I mean... Not a one of 'em struck me as especially hot in the movie (bunch of creeps) but that was disturbing. I hear the portrayal in the film is much tamer than in the stage play though. Marvelous! Thoughts...? | | Static Link |
