If you can't relate to what the 60's were about than you probably won't like the movie. 9/10 That's funny because I love reading about the 60's but the drug use isn't the only thing that interested me. It was the political movements. I'm actually bitter towards hippies because they could have done some good for this country, but instead they got selfish and stupid on drugs and dropped the ball. I think Hunter S. Thompson summed it up very well in his Wave speech. It was also a fascinating time for music as well. I love 60's psychedelic, pop, R n B, blues, jazz, you name it. It was all great stuff. So I do connect with the 60's. It would be the one decade I'd like to go back to in American histo... | | Read Entire Entry |

Jack really nails his character and i was sad when he died. I wish it had more of a real story behind it because the characters were just so cool but i guess that would have made it a lot less revolutionary. Its one of those movies you absolutely have to see if you're a movie fan. | | Static Link |

It still works for me, and I think it always will. Utterly classic cinematography by the great Laszlo Kovacs. The sequence where they pick up Luke Askew's hitchhiker and ride for a while as that Byrds song plays on the soundtrack is one of my favorites in any film. (I only realized about a year ago that Luke was the same guy who played one of the walking bosses in Cool Hand Luke. The moustache makes him look different, but mostly it's because the two characters ar... | | Read Entire Entry |

| Posted by: Seansea at June 3, 2008, 6:07 pm | | Topic: What are your thoughts on Easy Rider? Forum: JoBlo | | I just saw it again last week at a friends. I hadn't seen it in a few years and I still don't quite get it. I know it's counterculture. It always felt more like an experimental you get out of it what you will type of film. I should watch it with the filmmakers commentary to get more insight. Maybe that would answer my biggest question. Wtf is up with that dude with the grapefruit sized cyst on the side of his neck?!? | | Static Link |

Hopper, Fonda, and Nicholson are iconic, the camerawork is amazing, and the soundtrack is incredible. More to the point, it sums up the attitude of the 60s and the fate of the counterculture better than any film ever made. The LSD sequence is amazing, topped off by Captain America's emotional breakdown on the statue. It should be noted that Hopper, by all accounts at the time, was an utterly drug-crazed psychopath who had never directed before, but he went in with a clear vision and produced something that nearly 40 years later, still withstands the test of time... 10/10 | | Static Link |

| Posted by: echo_bravo at June 3, 2008, 3:31 am | | Topic: What are your thoughts on Easy Rider? Forum: JoBlo | | It is one of my favorite films EVER! You gotta understand when it came out (during the 60s) it was pretty revolutionary. Jack is freakin hilarious in it and I do agree that the ending is tragic too. The LSD trippin scene in the graveyard has to be one of most terrifying things I have seen ever on screen. 10/10 | | Static Link |
| Posted by: Frank the Tank at June 3, 2008, 2:59 am | | Topic: What are your thoughts on Easy Rider? Forum: JoBlo | | I really liked it, but I can understand why some hate it. The last 30 minutes are pretty depressing in a good way, and the performances from Hopper, Fonda, and Nicholson are all great. The trip sequence near the end is still pretty fucked up nearly 40 years later. I wouldn't call it a masterpiece, but it's still pretty damned good. 8/10 | | Static Link |
| Posted by: Kevin Smith fan at June 3, 2008, 12:24 am | | Topic: What are your thoughts on Easy Rider? Forum: JoBlo | | I finally saw the film for the first time, as a huge fan of Nicholson and Hopper. But I have to say I'm a little dissapointed with the final product. After all I've heard about this film being such an American classic, it really doesn't hold up well against the test of time. While I did really enjoy the underlying message and the beautiful location shots as our heroes traveled across the country on their hogs, I just didn't see the need for such praise on a film which is only good at best. Not by any means a masterpiece. So what do you schmoes think? Is Easy Riders a classic? Do you feel it holds up well? | | Static Link |
