It should be totally appropriate for a preteen, but there's enough content that it gets pushed a little less appropriate. I really like that flick, but kind of wish it was toned down just a tad more for the reasons I say. It's a great film for kids, but I feel was kind of pushed towards an older audience. | | Static Link |

I thought Minority Report, XXX, Die Another Day, and definitely Beowulf were all violent enough to get R ratings, but are PG-13. I can't believe Rambo didn't get an NC-17. | | Static Link |

I know theres no blood, but jeez, Anakin gets, what, am arm and a leg chopped off, and then we see him pretty much set on fire and burns to (almost) death? I really do feel like if anyone other then Lucas tried to do that, they wouldve got slapped with an R, even if it was a Sci-fi movie. | | Static Link |

I also tried to use that excuse with The Great Outdoors with John Candy, but the heavy language and some of sexuality scenes makes this definitely a PG-13 or lite R. Good movie BTW. | | Static Link |

So they came up with an in between. If you want to get down to technicalities the first movie that got a PG-13 rating was Flamingo Kid but it took it six months to hit the theatres after it was rated by the MPAA. Red Dawn got the 2nd PG-13 rating but hit the theatres first. And like bigred said it was Temple of Doom and Gremlins that got them to think about adjusting the ratings as they felt the movies were too violent for PG but too tame for R sp although they didn't get a PG-13 rating they created the category. Midnight Cowboy got an X rating and that movie is not rated x, its just because it dealt with homosexuality is why it got the higher rating. They changed the rating like... | | Read Entire Entry |

I've never really thought about it too much, except like 2001 being G and Napoleon Dynamite being PG --- Not that I didn't think they deserved the rating. Especially 2001, because the only violence is National Geographic style, and I don't think a kid could comprehend, or find it disturbing the way an adult would. Compared to stuff in like, say, Labyrinth, 2001 is so perfect for little ones exactly because of the music, and I'll add the symmetries. It's funny though, because on the other hand, I think a movie like Napoleon Dynamite would be more serious to a little kid. I don't see them picking up on the intended humor like an adult, but I think it would still be appropriate, maybe you wouldn't want them picking up those catch phrases or mannerisms, but that's a whole nother story. Gawd. So aside all that, I think sometimes it's what the kid is going to pick up from the movie. Something like The Matrix is a little more confusing for a kid than like Million Dollar Baby, ... | | Read Entire Entry |

The beginning part where those cavemen/apes or whatever were beating the shit out of eachother with a bone...that was pretty damn violent. And I gotta agree with T3. Other than the arm thru the seat scene, there wasnt any gore or real bad violence that I can remember. The violence in that movie is intense. The young boy and Quinn's deaths in particular are very fucking disturbing. Especially the shot of the fountain of blood just erupting out of the water when the little kid gets attacked. | | Static Link |

And the t-rex ripping that guy in two pieces is nothing.. there was no blood in that scene and it was dark, nothing brutal at all. One quick example, during a Kraken attack in the 2nd one, a man gets sucked out through a porthole by the Kracken, pretty gruesome death but it's still in there and the movie is still rated PG-13. | | Static Link |
