I know a few people who purchased this and they are indeed the originals...not reprints or restrikes. They usually go for over $200 on reputable dealer websites...you can get it through Lucasfilm itself for $39. Forum: JoBlo | | While Raiders is clearly the better film of the series, Temple will always remain my favorite. Something about the quick pace, rapid action, and over the top dark tone of the film keep me coming back time and time again. Watching Temple of Doom only exposes the flaws of Crystal Skull even more so. Harison Ford turns in his best performance as Indiana Jones here (compared to the lifeless cardboard stand in we got in KOTCS) and the energy sprawled off by the real stunts taking place makes the CGI in KOTCS look rediculous and cartoonish. Having said that, I do agree on one of TOD'S major flaws: Willie. This girl is rediculously intolerable; Indy should have left her at the bar. She's got to be one of the most annoying movie characters of all time and damn near ruins one of my favorite action films ever. I had no idea people dislike short round until I read this thread, I love that kid! I thought everyone else did too! What's not to love about him, seriously. | Posted by: MightyCelestial at May 28, 2008, 12:15 am | | Topic: Lets discuss The Temple of Doom. Forum: JoBlo | | Raiders is my fave of the bunch, but Temple Of Doom is definitely second. While I agree with the moat people that The Last Cruade's plot was stronger, it parts it seemed to try to emulate the formula of the first, specifically the action sequences. I know TOD's were more over the top, but IMO, that didn't make 'em any less thrilling. And they stood more that Last Crudade's. however, I may be partial to the theatre experpience when I watched these films. While LC was definitely an exciting film, I just remember alot more yelling & reaction in the theatre during LOD. That always make it more fun for me. | | Static Link |

Forum: JoBlo | | I also dont get the hate that this movie gets, I mean so what its extremely over the top. Its supposed to me since its trying to pay homage to the adventure serials...its trying to evoke the same spirit as those films and it succeeds. Short Round is one of the coolest sidekicks on any film, his smart, his useful his funny and his not annoying in the least! "He no nuts, he crazy!" Always loved that line. As for Willy, well, shes really the only thing that doesnt make sense for me in the film. Why? Well, check this out. The chick works as a dancer at Lao Ches club, shes a club dancer, ok? Then along comes this crazy archeologist whom shes never met before that night and whisks her away from her whole freaking life. She doesnt seem to mind much going for the ride. Except bitching about her broken nail. Lady, wake up, you are practically being kidnapped by a total stranger. I noticed that as a child I loved watching Temple of Doom more than Raiders. Doom was painted in a vivid and much more simpler palette then Raiders which was obviously much more adult and slightly more complex. A lot of it was very cartoonish and the lines of good and bad were just so clear cut, not to mention the fun and humor like the feast at the Majarajah's palace, the cave leading to the Thuggee temple and Willie's ever present whining. I mean who doesn't love it when Willie's screaming about the bugs crawling all over her and all Indy says is "Aw, shut up Willie!".. or when she's not finding that fulcrum release switch fast enough, and through a tiny hole all we see is Indy slowly and forcefully (which simultaneoulsy describes the look on his) saying "Willie, I'm-going-to-DIE! !!" Hahahahah, ah, its fun just recalling it! Now as I've gotten older I've come to appreciate Raiders more and now th... | | Read Entire Entry |

I also didn't mind Willie and thought that Short-Round was a great sidekick (notice how they show the influence Indy has/had on children through this relationship?). Also the ensemble performance is better than in any other Indy movie. My only complaint was the mix of the cheesy comedy and adventure with the dark themes of religious sacrifice and child abuse/slavery - not really sure what Steve was going for but still, a great adventure movie with a number of unforgetable scenes (the meal with the Maharajah, the cart sequence and the really tense final scene at the bridge). 8/10 | | Static Link |
| Posted by: rilocay at May 27, 2008, 4:15 am | | Topic: Lets discuss The Temple of Doom. Forum: JoBlo | | This is definatly an awesome movie, and i honestly think it better than last crusade. Last Crusade, If it wasnt for the Connery/Ford duo i'm sure Last Crusade woul be looked upon as the least of the original 3. It just either not written or not edited right in some bits, maybe it's in the characters, but in some bits things just happen too conveninetly & quickly (Indy in the Library/Church, Nazi chick jumping for the grail) to forward the plot (compared to the first 2 movies) ....am i the only one that see's that!? Anyways i gotta agree with what's been said about Temple's tone and pulpyness, i think that's right on. While i find the stumbling on the stolen rock thing a bit too convenient, i let it slip because evrything else in this movie is just done to perfection. Everything leads to each other pretty naturally and just framed so beuatifully. Plus the villains - yeah they aren't "christian" like Raiders or Crusade but thats one of the good things. It's not that great really until they actually go behind the wall and all that, but once it starts going it doesn't let up. Forum: JoBlo | | I just saw the fourth today (pretty much dug it), and I have to say that "Temple of Doom" is my least favorite of the series. That doesn't mean I dislike it, just that out of all of them, I enjoy this one the least. When I was a kid I loved it. First of all, yeah, I'm a Willie Scott hater. It's not even Capshaw's performance, it's just the character. She needs to shut up, and was a total turn off. Indy getting together with her? Ugh, why must it be so? I don't feel the same sense of urgency as the others. I don't know, I just don't. And the film really had no emotion for me. That said, it's still a fun ride. | | Static Link |

I loved the minecart chase scene. I liked Willie. I thought that it was good for Indiana Jones to have to try to cope with a woman that did not enjoy all those near-death encounters and the delightful snakes etc, oh and let's not forget the human sacrifices. I think Willie was a bit more like a normal woman; I know more women like her than Marion or Elsa. I was surprised to find out that this was a prequel. It didn't seem like it to me. | | Static Link |

| Posted by: JohnLocke2342 at May 26, 2008, 5:44 pm | | Topic: Lets discuss The Temple of Doom. Forum: JoBlo | | Temple of Doom is the first Indiana Jones movie I ever saw, followed by Raiders, and then the Last Crusade. It's much different then the last two, but that's why I like this one. It doesn't set the indy opening action scene, back to the school, big problem, out to find the idol, kind of step by step process the other 3 do. Doom is it's own movie, and why people constantly shit on it is beyond me. My only guess is because it had to follow one of the greatest movies in the history of cinema. I agree with everything you said about Short Round, he is awesome to me, and the same with Harrison Ford as Indy. He was amazing as Indy in this one. He showed a lot of emotion, with defending the kids and rescuing them and all.. I loved it. It was pure evil vs the good of Indy and I thought it came across well. As I grew older, I realized that Raiders is my favorite, with Crusade and Doom constantly flipping between second and third. 9/10 | | Static Link |

Forum: JoBlo | | Taking the heat off of Crystal Skull for a while, I figured I would open up a chat of the other black sheep of the Indy series. Temple of Doom. Now, Temple has been my childhood favorite for years. Raiders is better made, but I just love Temple of Doom. I think Harrison Ford gives his best performance as Indy, the action is amazing and right on par with Raiders. I like Short Round and I likeWillie. People bitch about Willie because she whines to much but I dont see it. Ya, she definately whines, but not to the point of her being unbearable. She's no Marion, which is good. Not every Indy girl is gonna be a two fisted hellion like Marion. She doesnt have the chemistry with Ford that Karen Allen which is a little drawback but she's not dead weight. I particularly like the little bedroom banter they exchange. Its pure Indy! Short Round is probably the least annoying kid sidekick ever and actually has something to do. His chemistry with Indy is cute without becoming stupid. I think half the reason people shit on ... | | Read Entire Entry |
