Forum: JoBlo | | the opening to Fargo is funny if you get the humor "out of respect for the dead everything else has been told exactly as it occured" haha that's not posssible. I think its a shot at those movies of the week that say they are based on a true story and people watch them and think it's all true. But I guess inspired by means something else. | | Static Link |

Forum: JoBlo | | Actually, I read somewhere that the director himself had a childhood experience where a stranger came to his home asking for someone who was not there, and later found out that several empty homes on his street were broken into. Also, I read that the directors main inspiration was based on Helter Skelter, a true crime book based on the 1969 Manson family murders. | | Static Link |

That seems weird to make such a fuss at the beginning of the movie if it's purely fiction...interesting. | | Static Link |

The story of Fargo may not be true but the wood chipper is based on some guy that killed his wife or someone and stuck them in a wood chipper, I think that's what they meant by 'inspired by'. | | Static Link |

When horror movies claim to be inspired by a true story, they tend to be shit. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a perfect example. I can't even count the number of dimwits who knew nothing about the history of the event and relied completely on the movie itself. (people like this vote too, it's scary) | | Static Link |

Forum: JoBlo | | The same goes for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre which the character Leatherface was inspired from serial killer Ed Gein. Don't forget The Serpent and The Rainbow which is based on a true story. | | Static Link |

Forum: JoBlo | | With the upcoming film The Strangers it says in the 2nd trailer "inspired by true events." So I thought I would do some research on it. I found nothing. I don't know if this is actually inspired by true events or if its just a hollywood gimick. If you've found anything, then what? | | Static Link |
