Netflix doesn't carry the remake for some reason so I'm going to rent it tomorrow then I can really compare the 2. Well, it's been a while since I've seen Kubrick's version so I'll have to re-watch to see if I remember it accurately. Funny thing is that I was going to say that the remake is the film that seemed to be a little closer to the book and would be something that Nabokov would have liked. But then I checked IMDb and it turns out that Nabokov wrote the screenplay too. Shows you how much I know. So I'll definitely have to check it out. | | Static Link |

Forum: JoBlo | | Man she went from underage temptress to bitter old woman in the blink of an eye , and it's all Lolita's fault . I can't say much , when i look at pics of me when i was 20 compared to me now , well , we don't have to go into that , but everyone ages , it's not something out of the ordinary , like she was going to look young and fresh her whole life . It is kind of silly of her to blame her woes on her experience with Lolita , but that's the easy route most people take , blaming someone or something else for their troubles . She should have just been grateful for the opportunity afforded her at that tender age and kept on working to perfect her craft . Now , i'm saying this as a casual observer , because i can't say exactly what she endured by starring in such a controversial film at the age of 14 . Then again , Jodie Foster played an underage prostitute in Taxi Driver , and she turned out just fine . I would say , if i was her , make some cheap b horror movies to get back in the swing , you never know what ca... | | Read Entire Entry |

I would have thought that she would have had more work than she did. But on a side note, I know this will sound like blasphemy, especially coming from a serious Kubrick fan like myself but I prefer the remake of Lolita to Kubrick's. Jeremy Irons was just much more pathetic as Humbert Humbert than James Mason and Dominique Swain was really amazing as Lolita. | | Static Link |

Forum: JoBlo | | Pretty much a crying shame, though it seems strange that she blames THE MOVIE for her later troubles in life. Now unless she was molested or not properly prepared for the sexual nature of the role (I hope not), she should just be grateful to be alive and upright at her age... | | Static Link |

It's a damn shame what happened to the pretty girl.. ♥ ♥ ♥ I just got done watching Kubrick's version of the film, and I was absolutely blown away. Although not as risqué as Adrian Lyne's remake, the black & white feel along with the acting hooks you right in. I can't believe I waited so long to watch this. The one thing that stuck out the most to me was Sue Lyon, the 14 year-old actress who played the sassy Dolores 'Lolita' Haze. I was thinking to myself, 'why haven't I seen her in anything else?'. She was absolutely stunning, and I couldn't imagine why her career went down hill. After Lolita, she did a few more movies that tanked, and her last one was in 1980. According to Wikipedia: Quote: Divorced in 1965 after a brief marriage to Hampton Fancher, Lyon was married in 1970 to Roland Harrison, an African-American photographer. Racism of the day caused the couple problems and they left the United States for a time to live in Spain... | | Read Entire Entry |
