I mean it doesn't hold a candle to Wall-E, that was probably my favorite animated film...ever...and I love animation, but its been one of the best. I would say my topes for this summer have been: A) Wall-E B)The Fall C) Speed Racer(although it and the fall are pretty close together) I must also mention that I expect Hellboy to rocket up to second place at least and DK to at least make 4th place. | | Static Link |

I went and saw SR with a group of friends and the only one that really liked it was my girlfriends brother, who's about 8. It definitely had it's moments. The Visual styling was amazing. I guess the rest didn't really strike me as anything exceptional. The story just didn't grip my interest, but if it came on t.v. on a Tuesday afternoon, I probably wouldn't change the channel. Let's hope the Wachowski brothers don't try and make another family movie. 5/10 | | Static Link |

I hope it does gain cult status someday, it's by no means a masterpiece but deserves a bit more notice. Matthew Fox was a perfect Racer X, Emile played the "hero" well and Cristina Ricca played a quite sexy Trixie... Go Speed Go | | Static Link |

Well...I have to admit that I saw it at a crappy theater. Dollar one, whole family around me. IN the Racer X kung Fu scene the reel was damaged and pulled a Grindhouse. I kept fearing that "Reel Missing" card would pop up. Still good, though I do wish I had seen it in Digital Projection. | | Static Link |

| Posted by: spacemonkey at July 2, 2008, 3:34 pm | | Topic: Speed Racer Forum: JoBlo | | "For a movie about velocity, the excitement factor is low and the races feel like a drag. Perhaps that has a lot to do with its length: 2 hours and 15 minutes, which is at least a half-hour too long for a movie based on a cartoon. Or maybe it's the predictable story about a guy who goes up against crooked corporate sponsors." - The Huffington Post "The Wachowski brothers have tumbled into a matrix of their own with "Speed Racer," one which has rendered them completely out of touch with the outside world. In adapting the 1960s Japanese anime television series, writer-directors Larry and Andy Wachowski have created a noisy, overlong, mind-numbing extravaganza that seems tailor-made for nobody but themselves and their twisted sensibilities." - Associated Press "This adventurously awful film is awful in many ways at once. It is, like a Ferrari poking across East 42nd Street at rush hour, fast yet slow. It is futuristically retro. Its attention span is measurable in microseconds... | | Read Entire Entry |

I don't think this film can be compared to Blade Runner, nor do I believe it will share it's cult status. Blade Runner was based on a short story by renowned sci-fi author Phillip K. Dick. His ideas inspired much controversy concerning ethics and humanity's eventual fate in the metaphorical hands of technology. Speed Racer is film based on a campy 60's cartoon, one I never much cared for. There's a plain difference in the depth of the source material right there, IMO. To be honest, I don't even like the film Blade Runner all that much. Sure, it was ahead of its time visually and its themes are ripe for discussion, but it's also downright tedious and boring in some parts. It's a film that's gone through several different DVD releases, all pushing some other key element that the previous didn't have. I doubt there will be a director's cut for Speed Racer. Is Speed Racer really ahead of its t... | | Read Entire Entry |
