I've read it's the best reviewed movie of 2008 and you can certainly see why. It's fantastic. Favs took a big gamble casting RDJ as Tony Stark, but it definitely payed off, big time. I was also pleasantly surprised with Paltrow's performance. The special effects were awesome but I never am letdown when ILM and Skywalker sound are on board. The fighting sequences were done very well. I was worried about a repeat of hurried/messy fights like in Transformers, but this wasn't the case with the Iron man fighting scenes. Precise and smooth viewing. 8 out of 10 | | Static Link |

Well it never showed him dying in a literal sense I suppose, but the implication was, unless I'm not remembering something, that Obadiah basically thrashed the room full of "SHIELD" (huge difference I'm sure) guys, followed by the Stark/ Obadiah fight that ended with the building being obliterated. All it would take is some infinitesimal visual nod that that particular guy got out alive or avoided that fate somehow. Just seemed lazy. Certainly doesn't sink a film, but enough of them and- well it may work for you, but it serves to lose me as an audience member. That was my point. | | Static Link |

He flies around in a glider with two jet engines. They call him the Rocket Man. Awe what am I saying? Reality is boring. Right? Lets get back to talking about mindless fantasy. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: TONY STARK at May 18, 2008, 7:24 am | | Topic: Iron Man-Official Movie Thread Forum: Film Hobbit | | I saw it last week at, that was an OK MOVIE, had a good time watching it which I would put it way above the crappy X-MEN-ELEKTRA-DAREDEVIL-GHOSTRIDER-FANTASTIC 4... reunited (Blade was cool) Laughed at every punchline RDJ delivered and was thrilled to see IRON MAN fly into the air. The action and dark mood in the cave was the most interesting bit in the film where he gets to build the MARK I armor and blast the TELLY Buns !! The rest of it we only get to see TONY STARK, TONY STARK, TONY STARK and TONY STARK. Not enough of IRON MAN and when we see him it's only a test flight. I had the impression that there was more action in the beginning then at the end? RDJ was so good cracking jokes that I forgot the movie was about IRON MAN. In fact it covered some of the flaws the movie had. His character was too goofy compared to the comic book. Even while wearing the suit he cracks up jokes, this is something only SPIDERMAN does during action, love the bit where he is silent and we only get to see the machine in actio... | | Read Entire Entry |

Maybe some here can head them off for me. I didn't like the Pepper-at-Stark's computer scene, with Obadiah catching her. Everything about it was terrible- it seemed a bit much that she'd need to do this task at that specific computer, for one. She got visibly and clearly flustered, which felt out of character for her. Plus the "download complete" screen was too easy. As a major turning point, it was just a really limp scene. I don't know. Just really stuck out to me. I could have done with one more big action scene, but I get this was the "get the ball rolling movie." Question- the FBI agents that hound Stark/ Pepper for a meeting, and then get eviscerated by Obadiah- we see the main one at the end pre-press conference. Still, if building a suit like that is possible in their universe, I'm not about to question how user friendly they can or cannot make it. I have no problem with how quickly Stane took to his suit, but being felled due to inexperience would have been a better twist, I think. Though, certainly, the icing problem was an element of that. I thought it was pretty close to perfect as a movie, and the only superhero adaptation I'm certain I'd place ahead of it is Spider-Man 2. That's saying a lot. Stark did become slightly less interesting and a little too conflicted in ways that didn't revolve around alcohol (he really needs to start the abuse in the sequel) in the latter half of the movie, but he was still a great character and awesome on screen. The only quibble outside of that is that there was no real good fight. Watching the suit in action was great, but there wasn't enough. Seeing him stomp on terrorists was great, but too short. Then the Iron Monger fight was pretty cool, but, again, too short and it wasn't really blow-for-blow sort of action. It was a basically wounded Iron Man getting kicked around before Pepper saved the day. I would have liked to see longer, better shots of Iron Man in action, and maybe on more even... | | Read Entire Entry |

I really liked Jeff Bridges, plus I totally could tell he was going to be the villain (after all, do you know any good guys named Obadiah?), until he decided to put on the suit at the end. I thought the bald Arab should've been the one to fight Stark at the end. Bridges should've stayed more behind the scenes I thought. All I kept thinking was "Is The Dude really trying to take down Iron Man?" Knowing virtually nothing about Iron Man before going into seeing this film, I liked the movie a lot. Then again, Robert Downey Jr. is one of my all time favorite actors and I love Terrence Howard so that could've played a factor. | | Static Link |

He was grand when he was acting the creepy businessman, but once he put the suit on all i could imagine him saying was how the rug tied his room together.... As for the easiness with which Stane worked the suit, it did say it was significantly changed over Starks version. And lets not forget that he didn't actually fight very well in it either. I think they would do well to make a complete break with the comic book villains for Iron Man. They just look like poor copycat knock-off versions of Iron-Man himself. I would prefer to see more of the terrorist element in an Iron Man 2, they were far more interesting then Stane as villains. | | Static Link |
